Wow…two deaths of important LBT people within a month of each other. :cry

Farewell, Kenneth Mars. You will be missed.

Oh no. Really? I just found this out on this thread. I had no idea that Kenneth Mars passed away last Saturday.  :(

This has been one heartbreaking year for the LBT world so far.

First, we lost Tony Geiss, (one of the story writers of the original '88 LBT) on Jan. 21.

And now on Feb. 12, we lose Kenneth Mars, who voiced probably the biggest adult character, grandpa longneck (in movies II-XIII, and the t.v. series)

*and the sad thing is... I think the chances of seeing a future LBT movie just got worse. Grandpa Longneck was perhaps the biggest adult character of all, as he was the leader of the herd*

(lbtDiclonius: Mars was actually 74, he was about 2 months shy of his 75th birthday)

I didn't know he was 74, I thought he was in his 80's now.

(Co-incidentally, my own grandpa is 75 years old right now, and he was born April 13, 1935 1 year and 1 day before Mars was born... )

*If you wanted to know how our flyers are doing, here are their ages, most of them are still acting great today with no problems*

Will Ryan (the original 1988 Petrie) is 71

Jeff Bennett (Petrie from II-XIII, and the t.v. series) is 48

Tress MacNeille (Petrie's mom) is 59

Michael York (Pterano) is 68

Rob Paulsen (Rinkus) is 54

Jim Cummings (Sierra) is 58

R.I.P. Kenneth Mars (April 14, 1936-February 12, 2011) you will be missed.  :cry

My best wishes to the one who gave his characteristic voice to Littlefoot's grandpa in the movies up to LBT 12. Indeed quite a number of people associated with movies (and I'm not talking of people connected to LBT) have died within the last month.

Farewell Kenneth Mars, you'll be remembered not just for your voice work as 'Grandpa' Longneck but also for many of your other contributions such as voicing King Triton for the Little Mermaid movie. :(

A truly remarkable actor in Land Before Time and other great movies and shows.

May you rest in peace Mr Mars and thank you for the joyous performances you've given us.

Hello:
That is a very sad news, I hope he'll rest in peace, he made a lot of things and I think he deserves it, and I don't think he'll be forgotten.

Aw, man, another voice from our childhoods, passed on. Rest in peace, and may your wooden arm be used to batter down Frankenstein's front door in the next life as well.

RIP Kenneth Mars, voice of Grandpa Longneck and King Triton. He also voiced Topsy in the 1988 theatrical LBT. I can see him now discussing with Tony Jay (Frollo's voice), Mel Blanc (Looney Tunes), and Clarence "Ducky" Nash (the original Donald Duck) their respective characters. :cry
