While looking through Yahoo news, I found this article. It's not the only one of its kind. Search on Google and you will find others.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/20071124/t...p2bvAfZHM_6VbIF

I did not think it was possible for the internet to max out. o.O  Has anyone else heard this news?

I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

If this actually happens, it could mess up people on online college and others who have more important uses for it than I do. Personally, I'll probably never miss it, but I'm sure there are others who actually have good uses for it who will be left in a bad situation over this.

It would be hard to deal with if it does happen, but like Manny, I could probably care less.. I find the internet is far too much a distraction... people get addicted to it, they over use it, and their lives become nothing more than a giant slug about to explode.

If the internet ever does come to an end, I expect a rise in personal productivity from every capable individual. More books will be written, more ideas will flourish and more goals will be recognized. Because the internet wont keep them from doing anything more important.

Unless they resort to watching TV for the rest of their lives. Which I'm honestly not a TV person anyway

I wouldn't be happy if the internet goes down. There isn't much else to do around here.

There may be problems, but likely it'll evolve as the tech does, at least in spots.  Some folks and places will have the latest tech or nearly so, others will be a few steps, or more, behind.

If the internet ever went down, it would be unlikely that any of us would ever be in contact of one another ever again (unless of course you know another member closely and have their telephone number or something) :P:

If the internet went down, the computer world would be totally changed.  No more auto updates from microsoft, but then again, there wouldn't be any viruses or hackers so I guess you wouldn't need them.

I see losing the internet to be a very serious problem, mostly for the businesses that rely on the internet. Amazon.com, for example, is just an online store (it has no physical store you can walk into). If the internet failed, then boom. There goes their business. And it's not just Amazon that will suffer. Many online stores will also suffer.

And what about antivirus and anti-spyware programs? Viruses and spyware get on the computer via internet. If the internet goes, well while it stops  viruses and spyware from getting to the computer, the usefulness of antivirus programs and anti-spyware programs will have passed, thus businesses like Norton, AVG, Panda, and MacAfee will lose a lot of money.

And then there are the companies that make online games. If the internet blows, then they start to lose money because people cannot play the games anymore.

There's probably more that I have missed.

Like I said, this could screw over millions, but I'd never really miss it. Sure, I won't be able to get information at the whim of a thought in the matter of a few seconds, but I can subscribe to a magazine or two like old times to keep up with such as that. The rest? That's what libraries are for!

I guess I'm the only one who would miss the internet then. Oh well.

So, 2010, the internet goes down.. and there are controvery people believing the world will end in 2012

so how do we keep these forums alive?

Simple!

It will be gas powered! Or it can be man powered! We'll hire a chimp by the name of Ted to ride an excersize bike 24 hours a day seven days a week, this bike can generate electricity, and there will be cheap telephone cords running from this hub to all our members all across the world

we will pay the chimp $2 an hour and buy the cheap cords from Goodwill

We will live!

Do we even know if this will actually happen or not? Even if that article is true, it may not turn out that way. Someone might find a workaround or the needed funds.

I'm sure there will be a workaround or something made by then if it's not already in place.  If it did happen I would miss the internet quite a bit, but I"d have to learn to cope. Though I doubt it'll happen like I doubted everything would shut down on 1-1-2000 .

Yeah, but I thought that was horseradish right from the start. I'm not so sure about this.

I doubt the big places that depend on the internet would just set by and let this happen, I'm sure they've either already working and solved it or they are working on it.

That's probably it. They've got money (at least I think). They can get around this. Or there's the cahnce the internet could just go poof and disappear. You know, that reminds me of a song from The Wizard of Oz....

I guess there will be "internet rationing" in which people can only go on for a few hours a day in order to relieve the strain on the system. Not that this is likely to happen...
