Title: I've only just realised...
Post by: SouthPawRacer on October 23, 2009, 09:22:34 AM
This may have been posted before... you never know with these sorts of forums. If that's true, apologies to all inconvenienced. :p

So I was bored and sitting around thinking about LBT 5 - it was a bit of a nostalgia trip since this was the first LBT movie I had the luck to come into contact with. Memories...
Anyway, my mind wandered as it usually does and I thought about the song "Big Water". I was replaying the whole thing, lyrics and all, in my head, and I suddenly realised something I hadn't even thought of until then. Look at this line of the song:
Quote
We wish the sun would fly up, And make the water dry up
They say "Sun". Not "Bright Circle"... "Sun".

I mean, I know that Bright Circle doesn't fit into the song at all and "Sun" flows better, but seriously... Technically speaking, the word Sun isn't even a part of the leaf-eater language. It's an unknown word to the characters... So why do they suddenly say it in a song, as if it's normal?

Typical producer oversight, I guess. :slap

LBT has many flaws in it :p The first movie has little, while the sequels have increasing amounts, hehe :p

...Which really is a pity. It's part of the reason why I prefer to stick to the first movie in many respects. It isn't as ludicrous or shoddily-produced as some of the more recent sequels, which is even more of a pity considering how much potential they had. :cry

There has been talk on the GOF before of the possibility of Universal intentionally tryin' to kill off the LBT series by screwing up production quality, and sometimes I wonder if that really is true <_<.

On the subject of the word "sun" bein' used in the song, I've known it was there since the movie came out.  I just never put much of any thought into it .

There are other examples. For example the beginning of Always there in the very same movie: "When the sun went down..." and I'm quite sure there are more cases. Don't they even use the term "sun" in a spoken line somewhere?

I do not really believe this and certainly not with reference to LBT 5. I just think that Charles Grosvenor (that was his first LBT movie) had a different idea of the target audience than Roy Alan Smith did. Later on he and the team of his writers just became painfully careless. I do not see any "intention" there to run down a good business. Such ideas really belong into the realm of the kind of conspiracy theories that lack basis. Why would they "want" to destroy LBT anyway?

They likely didn't look over songs nor made folks redo when certain words didn't fit in with what the lbt's normal talking terms are. After all they do have the like in the 4th movie song "who needs you," a line something like, "a cold in july..." I doubt they'd have the name of a month that is named after a human that does not exist in their world, and if they got what we call colds they may or may nto call them that, they may use another term like sniffles which one of my great aunts called a cold.

Not to mention animation mistakes being in lbt too.

You guys have made me realise just how many errors and mistakes are in the sequels. It's mildly depressing. :(

The closing credits version of "Peaceful Valley" also includes the sun: "Sun sets and rises..."

Oh dear... guess it goes to show how even us fans can miss these things. :p

As someone who can't bear to listen to the songs... I prefer to have fun pointing out the many, many animation flaws in the sequels.

Yes, it's depressing... but fun at the same time :D

I must say that I do not get overly upset about the mention of a word such as sun. Granted they do have an alternative word, but I do not consider the word "sun" so gross a violation of the rules of logic that I would have a major problem with it. There are worse trespasses which annoy me a lot more (e.g. the whole rainbowface alien thing in LBT 7, ice on a hot volcanic spring in LBT 8, the utter lack of plausibility in Bron's whole story in LBT 10... etc.).
With the language I would be more annoyed about the cropping up of such words which are really technically impossible for the dinosaurs to know. In the German translation of "Who needs you?" Ichty actually uses the term "water closet"

I was never overly upset over a slip in the songwriting. When I started this thread, I was just having a bit of a laugh. Not really that serious... I just thought I'd point it out and we could have a little chuckle at how we could have missed it. :)

On a side note... am I the only one around here who thinks that the Rainbow Faces being aliens was cool? :lol

Hey, I thought the Rainbowfaces were cool, too. I didn't catch that error in the lyrics before, but that's probably because I don't much like the songs I the LBT sequels.

heck, so did I, the Rainbowfaces were great characters although the fact that they're aliens is a bit of a shock at first.

My only guess as to why the word "Sun" was used rather than "Bright Circle" was because in those cases it would have been much easier to just say Sun. If you think about it, "Bright Circle sets and rises" makes absolutely no sense and doesn't sound right either. When "Bright Circle" is used in "I Feel So Happy", it actually fits the timing of the song, besides the producers finally using correct language in songs.

Just my opinion anyway.

Seeing that all these unusual terms seem to mostly originate from the songs, it seems evident to me that the songs themselves were sort of looked at as almost separate from the movies themselves. It would make sense, especially after reading that the word "July" appears in one of the songs (didn't even realize that myself :p).

Basically, I wouldn't fret too much over what the characters say in the songs, as they're just that, songs.

I'd guess it is maybe cause the song is done by a team or person seperate from the animation & voice acting or is looked at as not important but at thing one has to do and do quickly who cares about quality.

That'd be "Who Needs You" from LBT 4.

Part of the line Icky says to Dill is "... like a cold in July."

I didn't really pay attention that closely to nitpick language errors based on terms that the dinosaur folk already gave items (sun = bright circle).  You have to admit though--if you're a lyricist, try making "bright circle" with its odd syllables fit a song smoothly.  The target six year old knows what the sun is, so why make it harder on yourself, and just use the word "sun".

I didn't mean to sound like I was nitpicking, so I'm sorry if my words came out the wrong way. I meant for it to sound like "hey, I never realised this," and poke a bit of fun at myself. Doesn't look like it turned out that way though...

Anyway, sorry about all that guys. Let's move on. :(
