My current resolution is 1280X1024, but I've heard of monitors with 2048X1600.  What do you have?  To find out, right click on the desktop and click properties.  Then click the settings tab and your resolution will be displayed:

I go with 1024X768.  The resolution is nice, and I don't feel like I need to use a magnifying glass while I web surf.

I've got 1280x800, which is the highest my laptop can achieve.

1280x1024 only because of the size limit, I really want the 2560x2048 or bigger

my school is detestable, it's usually 800x600 there -slaps forehead-

and btw, I know a couple people with computers old enough to limit to 400x300 or w/e and some of them...oddly... are internet compatible (I have a computer that _CAN_ go that small, but I couldn't find a use for it)

What size is needed for the next step up?

1920 x 1440 ATM, but I sometimes bump it up to 2048 x 1536, just because I can.

Isn't the text very tiny at the high resolutions?   Though I"m sure if your pc as the hardware it can make the newer games look fantastic.

My monitor can support up to 2048Xsomething, but I'll need a decent video card to do that.  I'm living with on board graphics. -_-

text does get smaller but multitaskers don't mind, besides, if you hold control and use the scroll wheel it increases the text size... man I want a larger res!

My monitor's both native and maximum resolution is 1680x1050, so I use it.  It looks very pretty.

I guess most people have the "national standard".  Not surprising since over 50% of people have that resolution according to pc forums.

I've actually been playing with a dual-monitor setup recently.  If I consider the total resolution of my desktop when combining both monitors, I'm actually
2960 x 1050.

I'll likely leave mine, which is set on the national standard since the text is not to small to read.

I've only heard of one person on the pc gamer podcast who mentioned having a dual monitor set up, but he said he enjoyed it for games, especially games designed to take advantage of it.

1440x900

But I've got a huge amount of colors, so my images are clear and crisp. I happen to have a 15.4" screen.

I've temporarily changed my resolution to 1680X1050 after putting in a real video card and all I gotta say is dear god, Action, how in the world do you stand it? Everything is so squished and all my websites that I thought had a decent sized background are now repeating. :p

Is your monitor's native resolution 1680x1050? If not, that's why you hate it. :p

1680x1050 is a widescreen resolution.  you need a widescreen monitor to use it properly.

My monitor (Samsung 22" LCD widescreen) is designed for this resolution.  Nothing is squished at all over here.  As a matter of fact, it looks fantastic!  Better than any other resolution on this monitor.  I will admit, website backgrounds don't cater to my resolution but I'm not concerned enough about it to let that be a factor.  I'd rather have the extra screen real-estate to run FL Studio and whatnot. Yes, I have a widescreen 22 inch monitor and it's native resolution is 1680X1050, however it can go higher.  I just don't have a good enough video card to support it's max resolution.  Everything that used to have a decent ratio is now longer than it is wide.

Then select something else???  More isn't always better.
