Title: Flathead770's Fanart
Post by: Flathead770 on June 02, 2017, 05:45:46 PM
Now that I've started to draw pictures that aren't card related, I figured that I should make a separate topic. The first one is for the Fanart Prompt Challenge: Draw a background character.

It was a really close call between the spinosaurus and the one dinosaur in LBT14 that gets the treestar crown (I love it's confused expression). I really like the design of the spinosaurus in LBT12 over the more traditional sharpteeth in the series so I ultimately went with this choice. Drawing the head took the longest amount of time as it kept looking wrong. Now that I have the drawing on my computer and able to compare it to the original picture, the head is still a little skinny. I tried to work on my shading as well. Overall I am pleased with how it turned out.

Feel free to share any feedback with this drawing or any others in the future.

This is a very nice picture!  :) The lines look very smooth and the shading looks really cool! The details on the character are quite great and I like his expression! :) But is it just me or do the spines look a bit one-dimensional in comparison to the rest of the picture? Anyways, that's just a small nitpick. Great job with this picture!  :D

Hmm yea that's a good point. I decided to make the big back spines look more 3D by giving it a width but left out the neck part. The tail spikes could have used some shading to give it a more conical appearance now that I think about it. The rounded parts at the base of the large spine could have used some shading as well. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's a secret haha. I have a basic outline almost done for another drawing, I just have to figure out how I'm going to draw a certain part of it.

So true. I had to re-do my Spinosaurus' head about 4 times before I got it to not look all whacky.

This is incredible! You mentioned that your version's head is a tad narrower than the one in the film, and I can definitely see that, but I honestly think I prefer it that way. It looks more accurate. After all, the more recent artists on the show aren't exactly known for their attention to scientific detail (looking at you, weird Baryonyx-things in the 13th film).

Hey thanks Fyn! I think we can agree that there is a few things wrong with the 13th film :lol

I've stated this before in my return post but I'll say it again since it's relevant here. Before I decided to officially return to the GoF (for the 2nd time), I stalked the site for about a week. Having returned and losing interest fairly quickly before made me hesitant on coming back. I knew I had to have a way to help sustain my interest in LBT or the same thing would happen. At this point I had already had 50 LBT themed Yu-Gi-Oh cards that I had drawn as part as a project my friend and I were doing, where we each drew our own cards to duel with. Since I had fun drawing those cards I figured that drawing could be the answer so I spent some time looking through the fanart section. I often neglected that part of the board back in the day as I wasn't interested in drawing at the time, let alone show drawings to others.

After looking through the fanart board there were two main people that I feel helped tip me over the edge and finally decide to return. The first was Ducky123. Seeing the fanart competition that you started looked like a lot of fun and a way to help me continue drawing down the line (I didn't enter right away as I figured I would miss this current prompt, but joined when I saw it was being pushed back. I hope there is enough interest to keep it going). Your fanart topic happened to be on the front page at the time as well, so I got to look at your art.

The second person was CybertronianBrony. Your fighting game related artwork inspired me to do similar artwork of my own, which happen to be the ones I'm showing now. Your drawing of Ruby doing the Shoryuken were equal parts awesome and hilarious and made me want to draw her in a fighting pose as well (and like you said, it really is a great way to practice custom poses to improve your skill). I personally imagine Ruby to be more of kicker with her longer legs and immediately had this concept in mind:

Hey-o there's color! :DD Another quick shoutout to both Ducky123 and ADFan185 for wishing my drawings had color. I finally went out and bought some cheap colored pencils to give it a shot.

It was really fun to draw this mainly due to the difficulty of getting a front view looking good. The general outline of the legs and tail weren't too bad, and the head was fairly easy since she's looking to the side. The major problem were to get the arms to not look like crap as they are pointing out of the page. I spent a good time practicing fists by awkwardly looking at mine.

But wait, there's more! Since we're on the topic of fighting games, I figured why not try making some pixel art?

I worked on a simple idle animation of Ruby if she were in a fighting game. She was very fun to work on to get her feathers to move as she moves up and down (the arm feathers are still static at the moment as I still got to figure out how they should move).

And finally, what fighting game doesn't have alternate color schemes? These ones were inspired by Ruby's father and everyone's favorite egg stealer.

I would like to finish by saying thank you both Ducky123 and CybertronianBrony for getting me back on the GoF as well as everyone else that gives feedback and support. It feels like I've been flooding the fanart board recently with drawings of this and my Yu-Gi-Oh cards topic lately but I hope I can give inspiration to someone else someday like you guys inspired me.

You. Are. Awesome.

I flippin' love those sprites and that animation for the pose as well! And your drawing is outstanding too! I'm actually picturing Ruby if she was in M.U.G.E.N. right now. In Marvel vs. Capcom style.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Announcer: "That's great, super, excellent!"

Glad my picture inspired you! I'm actually blushing right now.

I was going to consider making sprites as well! As well as drawing the whole Gang of Seven and Ali some fighting stances!

@CybertronianBrony
I'm glad you liked it so much! The drawing I got from your Shoryuken and the sprites I got from your Namco x Capcom one so it was actually 2 pictures that inspired me. I've actually considered doing more fighting stances and sprites for the others as well.

If you're considering making sprites, I used Piskel (http://www.piskelapp.com/) for making Ruby. It was pretty simple to work with.

So Hypnobrai you wanted to see the Plated Sharptooth drawn in my Yu-Gi-Oh topic so I figured I would do a full drawing of him. I also wanted to try and draw a bigger scene with more character involved.

I chose this particular situation so I could fit all the main characters as well, with the perspective facing away from the island so I can have every character's face shown (and an easier background to deal with).

The background mountains, Littlefoot's, Cera's, Ducky's, and Petrie's poses were taken from the movie as reference (I used a scene from LBT 8 to get a better close up to draw Ducky and Littlefoot's head was changed to look to the right slightly). Both Chomper and the Plated Sharptooth were drawn from scratch using different scenes as references.

The hardest part was trying to draw Ducky since she is so small, but still has a lot of detail needed (unlike Petrie). I think she ended up a big larger than intended but I don't think I could have drawn her smaller. I'm planning on coloring this but I might take a bit of a break before I do. Coloring seems a bit daunting at the moment.

NOTE: I'm not sure what's going on with photobucket but I can still see my images on the forum (my guess is that I still don't have very many images uploaded?). I guess I'll find out if you guys can see it or not :lol.

Good job here! The overall layout works really nicely and the characters' expressions, especially Chomper's and the sharptooth's, look very well done. On the other hand, there could have been some details on the ground or the sea. Right now, they look kinda empty. Still, I like this picture as the characters look quite good here and the scene has been captured well.

I still got to figure out what I'm going to do in regards to this. Currently the top right and bottom left are practically completely empty. I'm going to have to spend some time practicing some form of environmental detail and ways to fill those areas up a bit. I just realized that I would also have to put shadows in the picture. That's going to be fun.

Hey that's exactly right. This scene is supposed to be the moment after Chomper bites Plates' tail, with Plates bringing his tail up to see what's going on.

Quote
Dang, you're really getting the hang of this
Thank you! :DD I did get a lot of practice drawing all those cards. I've also been trying multiple things with each picture to see where I stand. The Spinosaurus was working on planning out a drawing over a whole sheet since I've been so used to drawing small images as well as work on some shading. The Ruby kicking was practicing working on a pose that could not be easily found in the show and directly referenced as well as trying coloring. This one was working on more complicated image with multiple characters interacting in some way with an actual background. Admittedly I knew that I was weaker at drawing backgrounds so I knew that this last one would prove challenging. I'm going to work on updating and then eventually coloring this one but I might hold of on it for a while and draw more simple pictures for the time being.

The funny thing is that I never thought I was ever good at drawing. I tend to have poor confidence in a lot of things I do.

I haven't been doing too much drawing these past few weeks, but I have been doing a bit of sprite work every now and then. I finally finished doing an idle fighting pose for Chomper

With his dad's colors as an alternative palette.

I actually did some work with lighting this time around and I am quite pleased with the results. Since this is imagined with a fighting game in mind I decided to give Chomper a bit of a menacing smile to show off his sharp teeth.

Wow! This is too awesome! Chomper looks quite ready for his battles! Best be careful he dosen't lose control of himself and his sharptooth powers or he'll go into Rage Mode! I can picture him in my head performing one of his moves, Shadow Strike and Sharptooth Barrage!

I think he has already given in to bloodlust. Look at that smile, he's got the look of a killer! Sharptooth Barrage makes sense but I'm having a hard time imagining what Shadow Strike would be. I picture Chomper as more of a "run straight in" type of fighter, not really resorting to stealth. I'm glad you're having fun with it though!

Is it because his head is drawn at more of a side view than the rest of him? That's how I interpret that anyways. Something to keep in mind in the future at any rate. Thanks for the input!

I thought I'd give you some more information to help you.

Shadow Strike is a super move I made for him. He jumps towards the wall, then jumps off and dives down to the opponent and strikes the opponent with his claws. Then he throws the opponent to the side of the screen and finishes with one big giant reach extended slice, similar to Strider Hiryu's Gram move in the Marvel vs. Capcom games.

Sharptooth Barrage is similar to Wolverine's Berserker Barrage.

That makes a bit more sense. I haven't played much Marvel vs. Capcom and don't know who Strider is but it seems similar to what Vega does just with a bit of extra attacks added afterwards.

Well I got around to doing another drawing. I kept things a bit simpler this time so I could focus on coloring more.

I figured I would do one with Chomper since my original idea was to do a drawing to accompany the pixel art that I do. I tried to draw this one as large as possible with it taking up pretty much the whole 8 x 12 sheet. It made it quite time consuming to color in but I think it pays off with the result.

It's hard to tell but his belly is colored grey and his teeth/claws are grey mixed with a light yellow. Right now I'm just taking pictures with my phone since my scanner isn't working (though some proper lighting might also be something to look into).

I think the colouring is good. Very smooth looking with no visible white spots. The lilac/violet colour is a bit light but it's probably the most accurate choice when I think of Chomper's colour in that movie :)

It seems everyone is pretty much in agreement with him being adorable so that's cool. I had a funny issue with Chomper's left eye (right hand side from our perspective) in which I felt like it looked angry. The problem was that it was pointed too much at the top, similar to the other eye. Once I rounded it off slightly then it looked better. It's crazy how such a subtle difference can go a long way.

Thanks and good eye with the color. It is violet that I used. I tested another color on a really quick sketch and found that it was too dark, closer to his current design. I feel like a shade between violet and whatever other one I tested would have maybe matched up a bit better.

The lineart part went fairly smooth this time around. I never had to do any major changes so that was nice.

Sharptooth vs Red Claw first posted for Snik's birthday, September 14.

This was a fun one to come up with. I knew I wanted to have Sharptooth stepping on Red Claw but it took some work to finally finish the general outline. There were a few scenes that I used for references, namely using Sharptooth's head in the scene where he roars at Littlefoot and Cera after jumping from the thorns. My main priority was to get his face looking close to the movie as well as being intimidating. I looked at a few other scenes to make sure I was getting Red Claw's scar and such correct as well. I've also been working on doing a full greyscale image instead of only doing shading.

One problem with the drawing is that Red Claw's upper body is too large. I did end up finding a similar pose in LBT10 to confirm this after the drawing was nearing completion (the scene where the red sharptooth gets knocked into the tree). It's a shame I didn't think of using this earlier but more practice from memory is probably better in the long run. If anyone notices anything else that's off don't be shy to point it out.

Awesome drawing, and an awesome present!
Thanks. I'd like to think there was a 1 on 1 agreement before hand or Screech and Thud ran away once they knew what the result would be.

Thanks. An opinion most people share I imagine.

I still think Red Claw isn't that bad. There are some sharpteeth worse than him, and he isn't that pathetic in Escape From The Mysterious Beyond. I'd say Screech and Thud are even better for their size.
I like Red Claw. I mean he interrupts songs, that's the most badass thing you can do. :lol

This is a pretty awesome drawing with a nice idea and really cool feeling! The shading works really well and the original sharptooth looks great and mean!  :DD Red Claw's expression is a bit strange but otherwise there's not much I can point out. This is a truly great drawing and it's awesome that you do these pictures as birthday presents! Thank you for that!  :yes

As I already said on Snik's Starday topic... this is so good :lol

I'm no expert on Sharpteeth, and certainly not on whether something is anatomically correct or not but... nothing looking off there as far as I can tell :)

Just like in my random artwork topic, I'll be re-posting any LBT drawings for birthdays or whatever else here afterwards so they're archived in one spot. It will also hopefully prevent any offtopic tangents from getting out of hand too much as that is not my intention.

Excellent work on the drawing. The shading on the drawing is done very well and it truly captures the ferociousness of the original Sharptooth in the drawing.

With this being the second time I've drawn Sharptooth I wanted to make sure he had a more intimidating look since that was the major criticism of the first drawing so it's great to hear that is the case this time around.

For Red Claw's expression I honestly wasn't too sure what to do. I two things I wanted was for his eyes to be closed with his tongue sticking out to indicate he's dead. Other than that I was kinda just guessing. It's good to know. Next time I'll try to take more time looking at different Red Claw scenes (or even any generic sharptooth) to maybe get a better feel of how the head looks.

As for the topic of birthday presents, I figured that I can't just do it for one person and leave others high and dry. It's also gotten me to draw things I wouldn't have thought of normally so it's been a lot of fun so far.

Good to know and it's all good. When directly drawing something from reference it's a lot easier to catch mistakes. With this it feels a lot more subjective so I'm just curious if anyone had any thoughts on the matter.

Quote

Yea it's kinda hard to differentiate the two. Even though their bodies are similar, Sharptooth has more unique expressions then other generic sharpteeth to help him stand out and Red Claw has his noticeable scar. I made sure Red Claw's scar side would be facing up early one to help signify who he is. I also made sure to have Sharptooth a darker shade than Red Claw since he's a darker color though I could have probably made it darker. Nevertheless this is something to take note of.

To start I just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for me this year for the fanart award. It's hard to imagine that the beginning of the year I never considered drawing again let alone coming back to the GoF. When I came back I wasn't too optimistic on how long I'll stay active given how last time went. It's been just a little over 4 months since I've returned and so far I'm a lot more optimistic then I was. I had the goal of reaching 1 year and I'm pretty confident that I'll reach that milestone. :smile

On to the picture on hand:
Shorty drawn for Darkwolf's birthday on September 26.

Hmm, this picture is looking a little bit larger then usual. This is the first time I'm not using photobucket since it's only a matter of time my account kicks the bucket. I guess this one doesn't lower the resolution as much as photobucket.

I tried to give his tail some sort of blur effect since he's swinging it though I'm not entirely sold on how it turned out.

It's great to hear that you're having a good time here! :) Your drawings are really impressive, especially if you started again only this year and you truly deserved that award. I'm happy to hear that you're planning to stick with us for a long time as your presence here has been en extremely positive and nice thing this year, with your art and the contributions you've done to the different threads around the forum! :DD

As for the drawing, it looks absolutely great! The perspective is a great one and makes a good overall feeling into this picture, along with the sense of mobility you did with the tail. Also, Shorty's expression looks really good as does the smooth coloring! The only thing I can point out is that the feet  look to be in rather odd positions but otherwise, marvelous job with this one! :yes

His left hind leg's foot is on it's side since he is quickly transferring his weight from his left to his right and he is supposed to be on the ball of his right hind leg. At least that was the intention and the image was actually taken from LBT10, when Shorty was throwing rocks at the sharptooth. As always though it's good to see what people notice for future reference.

The box says RoseArt. It's a 72 colour set that I bought at the dollar store for $4 (I started cheap in case I wasn't going to like colouring). From there a made a colour palette on a sheet of paper of each color with their position in the box so I can compare the colours to an image and track them easier.

I bought a blending pencil to see if I could blend colours together but it doesn't seem to work very well with these. Down the road I might try and buy some more expensive ones.

Well it's about time I got around to posting these. It's a double feature today with Dalekdino and Ducky123's birthday being back to back. References were used for both of them.

Cera, posted Oct 15 for Dalekdino's birthaday.

I made sure to have a happy expression on Cera this time around, since my last couple have generally either been mad or scared. Since time was an issue with these two I picked the first scene that came in my head, namely just after Cera rescue's Tricia in 12. Cera's head seems to giving me less trouble now, which is nice. A small nitpick of mine would be that some of the lines around the one eye look a little angular.

Ducky, posted Oct 16 for Ducky123's birthday.

This one is missing the text that was present the first time around. Ducky's pose was taken from the talking big song in the first episode, where she is pointing to Saurus Rock. I had this scene in mind as soon as I started thinking about drawing Ducky for Ducky123's birthday. Originally I was thinking of doing something along the lines of having Ducky holding a piece of cake but decided just to have her point at some text. Now I don't know if it's just me but I find that Ducky's left eye seems off, like she is cross-eyed or something.

Finaly you posted them there.
Though Cera looks a bit... compressed in length/width while being ok in height. (lul wat am I talking) Or just her head intersects with body and body is a bit pressed in length.
But I like it, and like ducky a bit dramatic pose. :D

These are some really drawings! Both of them are colored well and it seems like you're getting really better at drawing these characters! Cera's expression is rather adorable and the anatomy works well but i agree with Snik here... she looks somewhat short here (I don't know if it's the body or the upper face that makes the impression though... ) but otherwise, it's a really good drawing!

As for the Ducky drawing, it's even better in my opinion! Her face looks believable and the pose is a good rendition of the scene. Actually, I didn't notice your nitpick at first but now that you mentioned it, the eye indeed looks a bit weird. Also, is her tail a tiny bit too thin? Still, they are just minor  problems.  These drawings are otherwise really impressive! You've improved a lot in the past months! :yes

How did I miss this so far!?  :bang

First of all, thanks so much for the starday drawing  :)littlefoot

Now I guess I might as well leave some advice I guess!

Cera: Cera looks great, almost a bit cute :lol However, something with her face seems just slightly off. Can't say exactly what since I'm also not that great with dinosaur anatomy and all that but, if I were to guess, her face seems just slightly too thin (though don't take my word on it :p)

Ducky: You picked a great pose there :lol It's really very well visible though that you referenced a pose from the tv-series  :spit

I think her neck seems a little long (though we have seen Ducky's renditions of being a longneck more than just once throughout the franchise  ^^spike ).

Her face definitely isn't perfect but it's still good-looking I'd say :lol Particularly the area around her beak looks a little off I think.

The rest are just slight nitpicks I noticed (because I draw Ducky so often :DD)

The area around her chest is a bit too thin :)

I think the lower part of her tail bulges a bit more where it connects to the main body though generally the tails looks awesome!

Ducky is usually drawn with these lines/rings around her arms. You forgot them (or intentionally left them out?) for the right arm, however this doesn't look wrong at all here :lol Maybe draw a short curved line going downwards from her arm ;)

...and yes, Ducky is cross-eyed  :spit

Now don't mind my nitpicks, I'm just happy I actually see that something's off for a change (as I'm usually rather on the receiving ends of those  :angel ) Wonderful artworks! (and I'm already waiting to review your next drawing ;))

So do you mean her length from head to tail is too short? She is supposed to be looking towards the front of the page slightly, which would make her appear not as long as if it was a direct side shot.

:! Oh no you think so too?  :lol This is interesting. I'm sure this is some sort of issue resulting with the chosen perspective so it'll be something to work on.  Thanks for the input both of you.

I like this one better of the two as well. I couldn't get her one eye right. I drew it similarly the first time and noticed it was off then spent a lot of time trying to improve it but they all ended up looking worse. I finally gave up and redrew it like it is now. As for the tail it could be a little thin. Looking at it now the bottom part of the base of the tail maybe could've probably been lowered a bit.

Horned Sharptooth drawn for Hypnobrai's birthday, Oct 25.

I never gave this sharptooth much thought when I first saw 14 but after Hypnobrai talking about him a lot and deciding to draw him I must admit that he looks pretty darn cool. I'm surprised that I'm finding so many of my drawings end up being sharpteeth. With this I feel like I now have a good chunk of Hypnobrai's possible requests that he never ended up asking crossed off the list  :p.

This also ends what I have planned so far for birthday drawings as I think I got most of the active people on the GoF. If I had known before I started planning this out that almost everyones birthday fell within just under 3 months (especially October) I might have reconsidered but I managed in the end. With games like Mario Odyssey releasing today in North America and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and others coming out soon there's a good chance video games are going to suck more free time out of me than recently so there's a good chance that I won't be posting as much drawings for the next while.

Once again, I agree with Snik. This picture is really well-done and especially the face, legs and tail look really cool! But the arms look far too small even to this sharptooth and they look even comically undersized. On the positive side (there are far more pluses here) the perspective with the tail and the feet looks good as does the overall shading. Your last drawings have all been great and I hope your pause won't be too long! :)

Oh I forgot to mention his pose. Is was hard to get one of him as there are very few good full body shots of him. The 2 choices that I narrowed down were the one the Hypnobrai used for his avatar and the one you see here, right after he lands from his leap. I thought this was a cool pose too and it also looks like he is getting ready to leap.

And yes I would love to here any critiques you may have!

For the critiques:
It's hard to draw in perspective, and I think you've done a pretty good job with the front leg, but the knee looks a little bit flat, and I think overlapping some shapes might help with that (if you look at the screenshot again, you'll see that they used a bit more consistent overlap with the shapes of the leg).

As for the arms, I think your problem is that you've made that first joint (shoulder thing?) a bit too pronounced, and the portion of the arm after it a bit too long in comparison. The problem with drawing solely from animation screenshots (though it is good practice) is that individual frames of animation don't have to look good on their own in order to produce a good looking motion. Animators often break or stretch joints in single frames in order to make for a smoother sequence, and I think that's probably what's happened in the reference you used.

My last comment is on the feet. He doesn't really look like he has much weight here (again, probably a flaw from the ref used). Perhaps it would help to put a bit of a stronger angle and a few more tension lines between the foot/toe connections and the knee joints, and "flatten" the toes against the surface he's standing on just a bit.

Hope that helped some :smile

Thanks Darkwolf for the great feedback! You know, now that you mention animation frames not having to look as good, I feel like I kinda knew about that in general but it has never occurred to me when I'm actually drawing. As for the feet, the reference used actually had rocks and dust surrounding a good chunk of it so I kinda improvised a little. Everything you said about giving him more weight makes complete sense so that's good to know for the future!

Yea there were 900 in BotW. I've managed to get up to around 720 as I look around for the remaining Stone Talus but I've stopped actively looking for them.

After weeks of slowly working off and on, I've finished my entry for the fanart prompt: Draw something winter themed

I went with a snowball fight with the whole gang and I feel it is a nice way to end off 2017 for me. I've wanted to do a whole gang drawing for a while now and a winter background is the perfect opportunity to do so (snow really cuts down on the amount of colouring required :p ). A snowball fight also had the potential of a lot of more unique poses that I could practice with.

While the teams make sense within the context of the show, when planning it also ended up being team "characters I'm comfortable drawing" vs "ones that I am not". In the end however I tried to use as little amount of references as possible. I used ones to make sure I was drawing Petrie and Ruby's face correctly. Had to use one to draw Ducky's face because I can't draw her face. Tried to find a good one of Spike with his head in the ground but gave up and just did whatever. Surprisingly didn't use any for Cera (though she is far enough away/small that mistakes are more forgiving).

Like always, I'm happy to hear any feedback.

This is a really cool drawing! I like the overall layout of the picture with the pond and the mountains in the background and the characters' poses are quite nice too. :smile Each of them seem to have a unique and in-character position in the picture so good job with that! :)  However, there are a few things I'd point out like Ducky and Ruby's heads. Ducky looks really weird (her face is too high for example as you implied) and Ruby's neck and head seem too small. Also, there are some problems with Petrie's face and his eyes look in different directions. Finally, the ground looks quite empty but I understand it would be too time-consuming to do that in a large picture like this. On the other hand, Chomper and Spike look very good as does the rest of Ruby and the action in the picture is done really well. Despite some flaws with the characters, the picture as a whole is quite great and it's a good way to wrap out this year! Good job! :yes

For the background I really just threw in what you would expect in the valley. The mountains are similar to the ones I did for the Great Valley Yu Gi Oh card I did earlier this year just with colour. It seemed to turn out alright so I'm happy.

Coming up with the character poses was probably the most fun for me. Most of the characters fell into place fairly quickly. The biggest exception was probably Chomper. I didn't know what I should exactly do with him. First he was going to have his back to the log, beside Ruby with a snowball in hand. After I couldn't get it to look right I tired a similar pose but on the side of the log peeking around the corner but had troubles again. The final idea was to have him crouching around the corner for a sneak attack, which is what the final product ended up being.

Quote
However, there are a few things I'd point out like Ducky and Ruby's heads. Ducky looks really weird (her face is too high for example as you implied) and Ruby's neck and head seem too small. Also, there are some problems with Petrie's face and his eyes look in different directions.

I'm not surprised that some characters look off given the increased scale of the drawing coupled with the fact they were for the most part done from memory. It's these parts however that feedback is most useful when you don't have an exact reference to examine so it's all the more appreciated.

Ducky is someone that I clearly need to practice on as I feel like I'm having a hard time getting her face right.

It's funny with Ruby becuase the first time her head was even smaller so I re-drew it to it's current size. I guess I never drew it big enough. I'm not too concerned about this but it's good to be aware. I always have had a tendency to draw smaller then I should.

Quote
Finally, the ground looks quite empty but I understand it would be too time-consuming to do that in a large picture like this.

Yea I was fully aware of this throughout drawing. I never worried too much about it as I figured I should keep things slow. This is the first fullscale art that I've done to any meaningful degree and it was nice to use snow as an excuse to leave white space on the paper. I had some more ambition in planning to have footprints scattered about to help it look less blank but in the end didn't want to go through all the trouble. Another thing is if you look closely to the right side of the fallen log there are semi circles cut into the log. Those are supposed to be Chomper's bite marks where he chewed through the side of the log to hide under the overhang as he sneaks up. I was going to have the spit out wood chips in the bottom right as well but dropped it for the same reason.

Quote
On the other hand, Chomper and Spike look very good as does the rest of Ruby and the action in the picture is done really well. Despite some flaws with the characters, the picture as a whole is quite great and it's a good way to wrap out this year! Good job!

It's good to hear that you like how Spike turned out. I was fortunate that him trying to bury his head in the snow made sense so I never had to put too much effort into him :lol Chomper is the one I am most proud of as well as the rest of team Littlefoot.

Now that Christmas breaks and new years have past it's time I start at it again. I haven't been working on anything real concrete at the moment. Instead I focused on doing some fairly quick sketches over the last few days, mainly focusing on Littlefoot and seeing where I'm at with going by memory. I wasn't going to bother posting this but it some turned out pretty good.

Top Left: This was mainly used for the 45 degree back/side view that Ducky123 and myself were trying to work on for his Ducky and Petrie dancing prompt and I never really tried to do any cleaning up (or including another arm for that matter). It was pretty satisfying coming up with a result that actually kinda works and was the kickstarter to keep going.

Top Right: Trying to do a happy type face, sorta like  :)littlefoot The main issue seems to be with his oversized eyes and upper part of his head. Comparing it with the bottom one kinda makes me think it might be good as a younger Littlefoot though.

Upper Middle: I tried to see if I could draw a sorta walking pose. Not really to exciting. I don't think it's that bad, but it would probably help to look at some references for this.

Lower Middle: This was a fun one. I've been wanting to draw something related to pulling a vine (and I probably will again in the future) and it's a good way to try a more unique pose. One of the issues that I believe is with this one is that since the back end of Littlefoot is closer to the ground then the upper part, the hind legs end up looking a little small. Instead of having the hind legs move parallel to the forelegs it might have been better to angle them more forwards so the hind feet are closer to the front feet and extending the leg length in the process.

Bottom Right: I'm really happy how this one turned out. I kind of wish I would have done a more proper drawing for this, but my main goal for this one was practicing the face anyways so I'm not too upset.

Now it's on to brainstorming for the fanart prompt.

I agree that these are pretty impressive! :) The expressions are quite great in all of these, especially the first two, and the overall look of the pictures is quite solid! These drawings look pretty detailed and it's also good to try new kinds of poses! However, I'd like to point out that Littlefoot's front legs in the third picture look a bit small and there's something fishy about his chest in the fourth one. :p Still, I really like the smooth look and great expressions in these pictures! I don't know what you're talking about :p I imagine if there is a case where the shoulders are moved closer together it would create some sort of skin fold, though that doesn't seem to be the case with how I drew him here. I don't really have a justification in this case haha.

Oh man did this ever come down to the wire. Here we go, this is my submission for the first fanart prompt of 2018: Draw a scene from a future LBT movie

I find it funny that while Ducky123 did only Longnecks I went with only sharpteeth. My first thought for this prompt was to actually do the war with sharpteeth that Dinoteen kept going on about as a joke, but scrapped the idea as I couldn't find his post. Not long after Sneak commented in my 'ask me' topic:

Quote
@Flathead: Please, tell us how you see good version of prequel movie to events of LBT TV series in your head! :P

and

Quote
How did Chomper and Ruby met?

among a few others (these are the most relevant to this drawing). My reasoning for both meeting Ruby and to head to the Great Valley was that Chomper had to get introduced to Red Claw in some form (I don't think just hearing about Red Claw would give him enough motivation). My drawing shows how I imagine this encounter would be with the basic premise being that Chomper's dad holds off Red Claw, and his mother deals with Screech and Thud while Chomper climbs up and escapes. From there Chomper would somehow meet up with Ruby (and maybe she helps/saves him in some capacity). While this was mainly me coming up with an answer to Sneak's question it also plays into my thoughts that if Red Claw were to ever show up in a sequel like XV, both Red Claw and Chomper should be the focus of the plot and this could serve as a flashback or something.

As for the drawing itself.
The Good:
Well I finally managed to completely color in an entire drawing this time around as there's no snow to be lazy :p On the topic of colors, I also tried more with shading and I think I managed to do ok. Shadows are a little on the light side but oh well, I've already spent enough time coloring as it is :lol I'm happy with how all the characters turned out. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to pull this off as these positions aren't really referable. Screech's leaping pose was the most exciting to finally finish.

Improvements/Errors:
I didn't think about this until after I had finished drawing Screech and didn't want to re-do it but Chomper's mother pose doesn't make too much sense. If she was swinging her tail to the left then having her also look to the left would go against her momentum of her rear end. Her head and front of her body should instead be swinging to the right. The main reason Chomper is actually climbing the side of the cliff was because Chomper is quite small relative to the others so having him higher up would allow me to have everyone at a decent size. The problem though is that this doesn't look quite right to me and that may have to do with Thud's size. With him being so large I feel like it doesn't give the impression that Chomper is high enough. I also found it difficult to match Chomper's mother's color. She needs to be more of a brownish/bronze color and his dad should be darker as well.

Also, rocks :p

I think that mostly covers my thoughts. Feel free to share yours and thank you Sneak for the idea. Your timing was perfect! :DD

Wow, these are by far not easy poses and the perspective isn't very easy to do either. The colours are light but I think it's the better choice since the background is not overshadowing the characters :)

Also a big thumbs up for the movie plot, that's meeting the prompt excellently :D

This drawing is really good! The scene has a very neat idea and the layout and expressions are done very well! Most of the characters are positioned and drawn in a good way and I really like how concerned Chomper and fearful looks in this picture. Things are going to get ugly real soon! :D However, there are a few things that caught my eye in this one. The most obvious is the question about what Screech is doing? :p  If he's jumping at Chomper's mom, the perspective makes it look pretty weird. The second one is that Chomper's dad's lower body looks too large in comparison to his head and Red Claw's body is far too small. Other than those issues, I also like the background and the smooth coloring is really nice. Great job with this one as always! :yes

While on the topic of death, I was considering throwing in a 3rd fast biter, implying that it died during the struggle and would be the reason for Red Claw to retreat. I had enough to draw however so I decided to drop it. Glad you loved it!

Quote

Yeah each one is doing something that makes it difficult whether they're twisting their neck, jumping or whatnot. As for coloring I tend to always put little pressure so it tends to be fairly light but in this case putting more pressure to color darker would have taken significantly longer to color.

Also a big thumbs up for the movie plot, that's meeting the prompt excellently :D
I'm just glad Sneak gave me the inspiration. I was worried about trying to come up with something.

Haha yep things look like they're going from bad to worse and I like Chomper's position; A nice vantage point to take one last look at the events unfolding.

Quote
However, there are a few things that caught my eye in this one. The most obvious is the question about what Screech is doing? :p If he's jumping at Chomper's mom, the perspective makes it look pretty weird.
The idea behind the way he looks is that he is supposed to be jumping off those rocks in the background to gain more height but the rocks ended up being a combination of too small and too far away so it might look off (I did actually have streak marks from Screech's back to the rocks to show where he jumped but the rock wall kinda hides it too much to notice. For the pose itself I took the idea of long jumping where you raise your feet up in front of you, which also serves to sink his feet into his prey. It seemed to make sense to me at least.

Quote
The second one is that Chomper's dad's lower body looks too large in comparison to his head and Red Claw's body is far too small.
For Red Claw I drew his front part of his body smaller due to the fact it's supposed to be turning towards the front of the page and is being blocked from view by Red Claw's head. For Chomper's dad...yep I can see that.

I'm still working on the next fanart prompt but in the meantime I've done a couple random sketches that I've finally bothered to upload. Both of them are of Ducky but that ended up being purely coincidental.

The first one is...well I don't even know exactly how this came to be. Something about Discord glitching and people were seeing Ducky's and Jordy's (nicknamed 'Archer') avatars swapped and thus the idea of ArcherDUCK came into existence. I wasn't around when it happened, I merely just decided to see if I could draw it.
I didn't spend too much time worrying about getting proportions right and mainly just focused on seeing if I could get the pose to look decent. The main problem was trying to get the head to look slightly cocked as she aims.

The next one was also from Discord, but came up in a conversation on how a determined look in anime usually has angry looking eyes but with a small smile or grin. Ducky was wondering how it would look on, well, Ducky :p so I figured I would give it a shot.
Whether or not the intended result was achieved, I really like how this one turned out. I should work on drawing more pictures focusing on the face more often.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think or if you happen to have a drawing to counter with... nudge nudge wink wink poke Ducky poke :lol

These are quite cool pictures! While Ducky's body is far too big in the first picture and her feet too small, the pose itself is quite successful so good job with that. :) Her expression looks really great here! As for the second picture, I, too, think it is a very good one! The face looks a bit sharper than it should be but other than that, good job with these ones! :yes

Yeah Ducky's lower body was an afterthought so I wasn't too worried. I knew that it looked quite large but I never actually noticed the feet, though I imagine they would look closer to the proper size if the body wasn't so large :p

Like I mentioned on Discord, I had the benefit of picking the easiest perspective so that really helped. I failed at doing a sorta front angle shot.

Ok I have to post this now or else I'll just keep trying to touch it up. :p Here is my submission for the March/April fanart prompt: How do you imagine the Great Valley celebrating the end of the cold time? I managed to get this one done with some time to spare.

What a surprise, it's another Ducky drawing!

For the last two prompts I've tried to fit several characters in. This time I've dialled it back and only wanted to focus on one and I figured that with the melting ice Ducky would love to get back into the water. The water presented a pretty interesting challenge as I had to learn how to draw splashing water as well as colouring the ripples and tinting the submerged part of Ducky's body. And since I colour really lightly I decided on rolling with that with having a progressively lighter background. I think it works well enough and kinda gives it a storybook sorta look to it.

Let me know what you guys think :DD

Next prompt is drawing an OC. Anyone got a character they're willing to let me butcher? :lol

I can only second what the others have said! The background (except perhaps that straight line of trees in the distance which could have been a bit more detailed) is really wonderful as are the colors which look even better than in any of your old drawings! While your backgrounds have usually been decent, this time I can safely say it is really impressive! :yes The layout is quite detailed and there doesn't seem to be "empty" space to be seen. Ducky herself is done really nicely even if I get the feeling she could look a bit too tall here but I'm not really sure. Also, her tail is a bit too short . Yet, all of that is mere nitpicking as this is your greatest drawing thus far! ^^spike

I find Ducky to be fairly difficult to get right. There's always something off whether it's the face, arms, or something else. This challenge makes her pretty fun to draw though, unlike the nightmare that Cera's frills bring with different perspectives.

Quote
(Do I see it right that her lower body is a little shifted because of the water? I mean like refraction of light)
:smile
You bet! That is indeed light refraction. I kept it more subtle as I wasn't sure how believable it would look. It's exciting that someone noticed a small detail like that. (If you're curious on how I did it I just simply drew her normally then drew a copy of the refracted parts slightly to the left. Once finished I just erased the original lines.)

I like throwing in small details like this when I can. The last prompt with Chomper's dad I included scars on his nose from the battle in LBT 5 but no one mentioned anything so I'm not sure if anyone noticed. (his head was also pretty tiny so it could've been hard to spot)

Quote
(except perhaps that straight line of trees in the distance which could have been a bit more detailed)
Is that what those are? :p I honestly wasn't sure what to do with the more distant backgrounds. I had a row of tall grass closer up front so I just said screw it and did another row of that :lol

One of the things I wanted to avoid was going crazy with the distant background details as I didn't want to have another last minute submission. I'll keep this in mind for next time though and try and meet more in the middle.

Quote
Ducky herself is done really nicely even if I get the feeling she could look a bit too tall here but I'm not really sure. Also, her tail is a bit too short .
Now that you bring up her tail I've done some looking into it and I think that the problem stems from the fact that it is pointing way more out to the side then it should and should be facing more facing "into" the page. Here is a rough mock up of what I'm talking about: (get ready for some math talk!)

I superimposed the Cartesian coordinates at around the center of Ducky's belly along the water's surface (z = 0) and aligned the x-y plane so her belly is pointed at around the positive x-direction. The faint portion of the line denotes the negative x-direction, which would be right around the direction her tail should be pointed in. In terms of azimuthal angle (sweeping from x-axis counter clockwise) that would put it at 180 degrees. Right now it looks like it's somewhere at around 135 degrees. It's all approximate but I think it helps showcase the potential  underlying problem.

I've pretty much accepted that I'm probably not going to get Ducky to look completely right :lol There's always something out of proportion or looking funny even with using a reference.

I'm a little late but here is my entry for the prompt: Draw an OC

It's everyone's new favorite swimmer, Sucky! :p

I had actually started this well over 2 months ago and it started as a joke on Discord with an acronym, S.T.O.P. (something to do with Sucky trips over Petrie) and I decided to try and draw it (I feel like I was also slightly called out by Ducky as well :lol ). I figured that instead I'd keep it more in line with the story and do it as my prompt. I lost a good chunk of motivation throughout, probably because I was the only one known to be working on the prompt at the time. All of a sudden everyone joined in and kicked me back into gear :p

Anyways, let me know what you guys think!

<--- is even later :lol

Well, this drawing certainly isn't sucky at all, oh no no no :DD

I think my favourite part of this drawing is that little swimmer kid in the bg snickering big time. That expression is just perfect (note to self, steal it  :bolt)

Sucky's colour was probably just as hard to get right as the colour of my character who I can hopefully finish colouring tonight. I think you've succeeded colouring Sucky there, yep yep yep :P

The background is undoubtedly simple yet good-looking I'd say. The shading on trees and grass is nicely executed for sure, gives me something to learn from you yet again, huh?  :lol

Anyway, that's a splendid drawing mate and also thanks for sticking with me all this time helping me figure out my own drawing  :cheers

And this a good drawing too! :Mo Sucky's expression really suits the character greatly and the scene seems familiar from Ducky's fics. However, the swimmers in the background are just as nicely done as their differing expressions (especially the middle one's) are rather priceless. :lol However, I think the perspective isn't perfect as Sucky seems too large in comparison to the three others. The background works quite well here and the coloring is smooth enough to do its job properly. That being said, I like this drawing and I'm happy you finished it despite the momentary lack of motivation. :smile

I'm glad you liked the snickering expression. I was quite happy that it turned out and is also my favorite of the 3.

I agree with the background being more simple this time around, mostly because I wasn't sure what to add in (my lack of motivation didn't help too much either)

As for stealing, I'm actually honored that someone finds my art good enough to learn from and am more then happy if they use it to improve :DD

It's good to see people enjoy the teasing triplets as I like to call them. Also interesting you pointed out the middle one as that one took the longest to figure out. I wanted them all at first to be sorta laughing at the situation but then decided on going for 3 distinct looks. The right one is calling out the trip in a mean way, the one on the left is laughing and the one in the middle seems to be tired of seeing the same old story and just wants to get back to swimming.

For the perspective I agree completely. I originally wanted the angle to be lower to the ground, which would make objects shrink faster as they approach the horizon line. The end result wasn't quite what I wanted but I'm satisfied regardless.

Ok, I know I'm late once again in my submission. I hope this doesn't become routine. :p

Here's my submission for Daily life/survival

Since I started on this one later then most I decided on just sticking with greyscale this time around. It was a nice change so I might stick with it for the next little bit.

Anyways, the drawing depicts a sort of first meeting with Shorty and the hatchlings, and more closely matches the setting of the first movie. Funny enough, I was planning and working on the outline for this when Ducky released ch 1 of SDP, which has a very similar setting to the one I was imagining.

Like all ways, let me know what you guys think.

Ooh, very nice! I especially like the shading on the tree and the background! I can’t really say much about the anatomy since I’m still learning myself  :p but it looks correct for the most part. It’s great to see some more art from you!!  :DD

Damn! :wow :wow Now that is some great stuff! This is easily your best work yet as the picture feels more complete than ever with with the hills and rocks in the background. Shorty and the others have really well-drawn expressions and the oldest longneck's concern for his companions is very clear. However, I also really adore the smooth shading and the extremely smooth look of the picture. From Shorty himself to the small but clear hints of the land on the background (and the flying treestars), this drawing is a truly impressive one. If I really have to nitpick, the perspective with the fallen log and the stones isn't perfect. :p Anyway, phenomenal job here. I can safely say this is probably the best drawing (apart from DarkWolf's work) I've seen on GoF! :yes

Everyone already said this already, but the shading is impressive. Pencil shading is something that I recall being tough in art class if you want to add depth, so excellent job here!

This is a truly impressive piece of work! :DD The monochrome shading allows the emotions of the scene to truly shine through.  The surprise of Shorty matching the hunger in his stomach, and the almost begging mannerisms of the hatchlings who are looking for any potential support in the dangerous Mysterious Beyond. The hesitation of the younglings is evident in their mannerisms, which further hints at a traumatic incident separating them from their parents.  The momentary loss of Shorty's tough exterior in this shot shows his inner vulnerability.  In the younglings he sees his own sense of loss, and the same fear.  This drawing truly had multiple layers of depth, which makes it one of your best pieces to date in my opinion.  :)

Thanks everyone! It's good to see that you guys like it so much. I felt like I was on to something as I started making some progress on it.

@jassy
Thanks! I screwed up a bit on the front perspective of Shorty, mainly with forelegs. I least I'm pretty sure. I drew the shoulder part sort of how I would for a side shot, which is more then likely incorrect.

@Sovereign
Yeah I stuck with my typical shading style for most of the picture. I did switch it up for the desert in background, choosing to go for quick, long strokes with the intention of having it appear different from the rest of the drawing. Basically, I had no idea how to actually make it look like a desert so I just tried something different. I think it seemed to work. :p

As for the tree on the right hand side I completely agree and I think it comes down to me changing my idea on the fly as the tree is supposed to be partially uprooted and fallen down on top of the rocks, but the way I drew the base of the tree, it looks more like it's fallen directly to the right. It would have been more effective to have the underneath the roots part of the tree facing the viewer.

@DarkWolf91
Yeah I felt like Shorty was the perfect choice to go for a survival theme and a sort of desperate pairing between him and the hatchlings quickly came to mind. Glad you liked it! :DD

@OwlsCantRead
It's certainly time consuming as well :p There's still a lot of room for me to improve but I'm happy with my results. :smile

@rhombus
I've always like your ability to weave a narrative of a drawing in your feedback and I must admit that it's nice to see it done on one of my drawings. Thank you!  :)littlefoot

Totally sorry for ignoring this until now :sducky Gonna make up for it with a nice review though :D

I honestly don't know where to start so I guess I'll start by recognizing you for drawing a scene from my story. Any fanfic author would be happy to see their work of fiction illustrated, yep yep yep!!! :)littlefoot Admittedly, as you being a first-time reader of the new, improved version of the story cannot know, this scene transpired a little... different than that haha but I do love your take on it!

Let's begin with the actual review.

Mood: The mood of the drawing certainly lives up to the darker tone of the story and that scene in particular. It takes place around the same time Littlefoot and friends are having their adventure to find the Great Valley so you'd totally expect a desolate landscape where everyone is struggling to survive.

Shorty: Shorty looks spot on, trying to help himself to a few dry leaves left on a tree in reach of his neck. Not much else to say there, I suppose.

Hatchlings: Generally, I think their proportions would make them tinysaurusses rather than hatchlings but I know how hard it is to draw a longneck with normal child-like proportions :p I'd probably expect them to be a little smaller than that. I think Littlefoot must've gained several times his size since he hatched...

About the individual expressions, I must say that you've drawn them really well with appropriate expressions. Though, I think the one on the right hiding behind that rock looks a little derpy around the face :P

Background: This is possibly your best, most detailed background to date! It gives a rather realistic impression too! I am impressed :P I see you indicated a rough breeze judging by the way the few leaves are drawn. Maybe a few lines would have underlined that even more, dunno.

Greyscale/shading: This is a field I am way inferior to you and it really shows in this one that you are quite capable of this technique! :^^spike

Overall, well done mate! :exactly

That's ok because you have enough of a comment to warrant a separate response :p
So let's break this down

As I quickly mentioned earlier today on Discord, this wasn't actually intended to be a scene from Shorty's Dark Past. I originally had the idea to draw Shorty meeting the hatchlings about halfway through the OC prompt and to better match the survival part of the prompt I chose to go with a similar style to LBT 1 (as you mentioned in the mood) with Shorty desperate to find food and stumbling upon the hatchlings who had gathered to this spot for food, but have now exhausted the remaining food that they can reach and afraid to go anywhere else.

I was pretty amazed when I read the first chapter of SDP and found that your descriptions mirrored my own thoughts as well, and the fact that you thought that this was a SDP drawing also is testament to that. I guess it's like how Bron said in 10: "Great minds think alike." :smile (though if you wanted to think like it was from SDP the hatchling on the bottom right could very well be Shadow, as she is literally stepping out of the shadows. I think that would be fitting, though she would have to appear a lot darker to fit her appearance)

Quote
Hatchlings: Generally, I think their proportions would make them tinysaurusses rather than hatchlings but I know how hard it is to draw a longneck with normal child-like proportions :p I'd probably expect them to be a little smaller than that. I think Littlefoot must've gained several times his size since he hatched...
This was an area I had trouble on for sure. I tried to use the flashback scene to get the general idea for proportions and while I think I have the general size right for, well probably only the bottom right one, the proportions are all similar to a Littlefoot sized longneck. Think back on it now I probably would have made the neck look considerably shorty to help with that.

Quote
About the individual expressions, I must say that you've drawn them really well with appropriate expressions. Though, I think the one on the right hiding behind that rock looks a little derpy around the face :P
Well it wouldn't be one of my drawings if at least one character didn't look derpy :lol Coming up with different expressions for multiple characters is something I find to be quite fun but sometimes it can be hard to keep them all unique and a derpy one is bound to show up haha.

Quote
Background: This is possibly your best, most detailed background to date! It gives a rather realistic impression too! I am impressed :P I see you indicated a rough breeze judging by the way the few leaves are drawn. Maybe a few lines would have underlined that even more, dunno.
Yep I intended to have a breeze blowing the treestars and for 2 reasons. First, I had to have a reason for so little treestars on the tree since the hatchlings only could potentially reach the bottom. This also saves on effort to draw so many of them while also helping making the drawing appear less static. Second, there's a large imbalance in line density in this drawing with a very complicated, empty tree on the left with a largely more empty space on the right. When I generally look at a drawing my eyes are drawn to the complicated stuff, in this case the tree, so the treestars blowing to the right would help naturally bring the viewers' eyes over to the right (and to help make the space more interesting, I placed the sunset there along with some extra rocks in the sand dunes part).

As for your actual criticism here, I did actually try to do some things to try to indicate the wind but ultimately I don't think they turned out all that well. Right above the derpy hatchling is supposed to be a bit of sand blowing across the dirt. I probably could have done more with that and made it more prominent. I also shaded the desert part with long straight lines to try and give a sands blowing in the wind effect with more streaks on the right hand side of the hills to make them look less defined with the sand blowing over them. I mentioned this is my response to Sovereign and while I think it worked for making it look like a desert, it didn't turn out all to well for the wind.

That about sums up all of my thoughts on your comments. I must say, this was some good feedback that touched on some good points so thank you for your review! I guess that means we're both bad at getting around to looking at each others works. I'll try to poke you more like you do to me haha.

Well I'm on time this time around. This is my prompt entry for Draw your least favorite character

So first off, I just want to mention that I wanted to avoid obvious despised characters like Rhett. I did end up throwing in a Yellowbelly though as I felt like it was a fun little way for Dil & Ichy to do something interesting while at the same time adding in another not so likeable character. Here they seem to have picked off enough yellowbellies to realize they're not so smart and are now toying with them.

As for Dil & Ichy, I must admit that I really don't like them. They feel a very similar to Ozzy and Strut as they are a pair of villains that are at odds with each other but while Ozzy and Strut I find to be quite funny, Dil & Ichy just feel flat out annoying or dumb. It doesn't help that we get first introduced to this dynamic will a kinda dull song.

Quick comment on the drawing itself, I definitely didn't spend as much time on this one as I have on previous drawings, especially when it comes to the background (No shadows on the characters either. I just noticed :p ). There were a few things keeping me away from drawing this last 2 months with trying to learn more about photography and planning and going on a few trips. I also really didn't want to go further past the deadline as I wanted to start focusing on the next prompt.

Ok then, well let me know what you guys think!

Oh, LBT13, you must be memed so.

Despite everything you'd said about the lack of time on this, I still like this piece, especially the expression on all of their faces - Ichy, Dil, and the yellowbelly's. It's oddly fitting for their personalities. Great pencil drawing overall!

Hahaha! That was actually what I initially saw as well! I'd first seen this on mobile and it was cut off in exactly the way you'd described, but when I went to post my reply on a computer, the full image with Ichy and the background yellowbellies appeared. It's more than fair to show what would happen to the Yellowbellies if the 13th film had even a modicum of self-respect. :p Anyway, this is another case of the nice look you manage to get into your pictures with your usual style. The overall idea is quite solid and Dil and Ichy's expression are quite good too. But as you said, the background is quite empty and I feel Dil's left eye is a bit too deep in her head. But all in all, it's great to see a new drawing from you after this wait! :Mo

I wanted to end off 2018 much like I did in 2017, with a drawing with the whole gang involved. In this scenario it seems like Chomper still doesn't quite get how the celebration works :p

This is a pretty great drawing and I like how you approached the prompt. These kinds of pictures where the characters do what they most often do are always fun and the addition of Chomper's idea of sharing his food with the others was a cool touch. I must mention that the perspective seems to imply we're watching the scene a bit uphill and there's something wrong with Littlefoot's head, he just doesn't look quite like himself. But other than that, good job. :)

It's one of my favorite reasons for drawing the gang like this as you can come up with some cool stuff just by thinking about the character. My initial concept was everyone running from Chomper so clearly he would be in the background. Ruby is a fast runner so she would be in the front (though it sorta changed to her being furthest away in the first place given her sweet bubbles on the grass). A few other things like Spike just not caring and Ducky hiding behind Spike were the other easy ones. Everyone else was placed to fill the gaps.

Well it certainly wasn't supposed to look uphill so...oops eeps I guess :lol
And yeah Littlefoot was the most difficult to draw with his running towards the page being quite a hard pose.

I really like this drawing. I like the idea and the realisation is done successfully. I'm really impressed by the colors! Especially the grass looks very soft, just like the clouds.  :)
What I especially like is the background. The reflection in the water is amazing! I also love the volcano.
It is clearly visible that the scene takes place in the Great Valley.

Maybe the background would have been more decorated. Notably the area between Cera and the mountains looks a bit empty. But that is not essential, much more important is the foreground, and that is really well done!

I think I like Spike the best. But I also like the other characters!  :)

Man everyone loves Spike, it's great. Normally I'm not too fond of drawing him, but it worked out really well for this one. Glad everyone like how he turned out.
Yeah it's hard deciding how much background detail to put in as it sharply increases the completion time, at least for me. I'm always so indecisive on what I should put in haha. I was going to have a pile of treestars a little behind Cera and Littlefoot that is partially blowing away due to them running away but I was taking long enough on it so I scrapped the idea.

Thanks for the feedback guys! :DD

So approximately 369 days ago I did a drawing for the prompt: Draw a scene from a future LBT movie (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15568.msg463495#msg463495) in which I drew a scene depicting Chomper's first encounter with Red Claw in response to several of Sneak's questions posted in my Ask Me (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15618.msg460705#msg460705) topic.

I decided to continue with this idea for the most recent prompt: Draw a movie poster

So when I first thought of suggesting a movie poster for the prompt I had the idea of taking a format of something like Star Wars and applying it to LBT, because sure why not? :p As soon as I thought to use my "LBT 15" the layout came to mind fairly quickly. Have the villain at the top looking imposing and all that and throw the main character in the center. Since this story would be all about Chomper trying to defeat Red Claw as a continuation of the TV series "plot". I thought it would be neat to make them have eye contact as it would naturally create an idea of Red Claw looking down as if superior and Chomper looking up to this seemingly insurmountable task.

Wait...what is Ali doing here!? Well two reasons. First, I'm a fan of symmetry ok? Secondly, every great movie has romance doesn't it? Don't worry it will somehow all make sense in the movie!  :PAli Seems like Littlefoot is distressed about something. What could it be? Maybe a death in the family? I actually don't know haha Seems like Ali is quite worried about him though. Will she be able to help Littlefoot out?

The remaining space was filled out with generic action with the other gang members, Screech and Thud. For anyone wondering where Petrie might be I have a very reasonable explanation for this...I didn't want to draw him. :p Either that or zero-point is the director :lol

There was a few other things that I thought about adding in but never had the room and/or the time. Things like some vague hype filled text as well as those lists of director, producer, screenwriter, and other stuff no one really reads. Also some sort of color background would've been nice.

Anyways, hope you guys like it because I'm sure Universal will be green-lighting it soon! :p

[EDIT]Image looks a lot brighter now! Thanks for pointing that out Ducky! :smile

Ahhh so this is what you've been working on! Good to see it completed :)

Seems like the gang is in big trouble in this movie! It'd actually be nice to have an LBT movie that is a bit darker and more filled with tension, much like the original. Now I'm not very familiar with Red Claw as he was a TV series exclusive, but it seems like he could be a decent villain. Definitely one to mark his territory.

I think the characters are all wonderfully drawn (though I've never been a big fan of the brown color scheme for Littlefoot personally :P ), and you've done a great job on the lettering too! Nice job getting the gradient in there.

Hire me and that story will happen one day xD (I'm serious, those are all great ideas!)

Will have to look at the drawing from a computer, phone doesn't do justice so I can't give a good review of the drawing.

What I can tell already is that the composition is excellent! Laters :PAli

Poor Petrie, to be dumped like this... :P In all seriousness, this is simply a great drawing! The layout works in a really great way and it has a nice look to it. All of the characters' expressions are spot-on, especially those of Littlefoot and Chomper. The action scenes may not look as impressive as the rest of the picture but they do their job. My only problem here is that the title looks a bit awkward and the film should perhaps have had a unique name. But other than that, amazing work! :)littlefoot

Okay, now that I've got to get a good look at it, here are my detailed thoughts.

First of all, and this has nothing to do with the picture itself, but I think the photograph of it could be tweaked. It's a bit too dark I think. I always run my pics through a quick edit on paint.net and it's doing wonders sometimes :)

As I said before, the composition is absolutely great, I cannot see any flaws aside from the unforgivable death disappearing of Petrie  :opetrie  :OhYou

Now let me start from top to bottom:

Redclaw looks really really gooood here, you nailed the expression, looks like a mix of anger, annoyance and disgust  :lol

Littlefoot looks kinda sad (maybe about Petrie's disappearing?  :OhYou ), I like his expression  :^^spike And, and Ali was certainly a sweet surprise, considering she's my second favourite character after Ducky :DD

The raptors and the gang are small but considering the small size they look really spot on, even little Ducky. In particular, I like Ruby's pose here  :)littlefoot

Chomper is literally standing on the title which is pretty funny to be honest  After reading your author's (artist's?) note, I can certainly see why you chose that pose and expression for him. All looking really nice (and I see you went with brown in the end for the title, certainly works!  :^^spike )

As always, your art stuns me, you really have some hidden talents there I believe  ;)Cera Keep it up, now I totally feel more confident about my own attempt which... well, you know how hopeless I am again  :oops

It is really exciting that you drew a poster of a future movie! I can really imagine this story as a film and the poster fits!  :DD
What I especially like, is, that one can think a lot about the poster. One can interpret many things into it, as you have actually already done. Why is Littlefoot thinking? Why is Ali worried? Many open questions, which cause one thing: Advertising.
This is the third point which I like. I think, the advertising effect of a poster is really important.
If I saw this poster, I'd most likely watch the movie!  :)

Thanks everyone! :DD
This prompt was a blast to draw, even if drawing all the side characters ate up all my time. I had Red Claw, Ali, Littlefoot, and Chomper done in one nightm with the title finished a couple days later. The rest took over a month of me being lazy/trying to figure out how to plan and draw the poses so they don't look like crap haha.

Hope it was worth the wait! :p

I'd be down for a more tense filled sequel as well and lore wise Red Claw has the potential for a good villain. Put into practice and, well, you get the TV series apparently :p

I've talked to you about it before and I agree with you on the brown color for Littlefoot as well. I've spent a good amount of time trying to get Littlefoot to look right with colored pencils but it doesn't seem to work, especially in this case as I wanted him clearly differentiated from Ali. Glad you liked it and the title too! As you may know I struggled to try and get it lined up and centered properly haha. Managed in the end and I am quite happy with the gradient as well! :smile

Poor, poor, Petrie  :opetrie
Yeah a proper title would be ideal but that would of probably added an extra year for me :lol Seriously I'm really bad with coming up with names. It would end up being something dumb like "Chomper Tries to Rally the Great Valley but Fails, but Wait, he Actually Does in the End and the Power of Friendship Beats Red Claw"  :PAli
Thanks for the feedback!

I've re-uploaded the image with it brighter, thanks for mentioning that!

Thanks for all the feedback.
I was really happy with how Red Claw turned out as well. Probably my favorite part of the drawing. :DD
Ali was a surprise for me as well. I knew I wanted Littlefoot up there as a floating head and after Red Claw was drawn and Chomper was planned out in my head there were 2 spots so Ali popped in my head to mirror Littlefoot.

Looks like I've succeeded in my job then! Yeah I agree. For Chomper and Red Claw I wanted it to be fairly obvious what is going on with the 2 given the knowledge of the TV series. With Ali and Littlefoot that little bit of mystery opens it up to different possibilities. It's the reason I decided on non happy faces as that is harder to read into and theorize and becomes more generic.
Good to see you'd want to watch my movie!  :)littlefoot

Aw man, I love this! The symmetry is great, and all the characters look really nice! It must have taken a ton of work to include so many! And the way you wrote the title is super clean, too, it looks good! And Petrie is off being the star of his own adventure, in an entry I'll post soon :lol

And yeah...of course I knew Petrie was flying in you're adventure. I just didn't want to spoil it for everyone else  :PAli My movie is part of the main series where yours is more like a spin off :lol

I don't know how long it has been since I've submitted a prompt on time, but I've managed to do it this time around!  :PCera

Here is my entry for the fanart prompt: Love/Family

Quite a bit different then Iris' submission, mainly focusing on the feats one would overcome for family.

Now this is a drawing I've kinda had in the back of my head for a while now. The Legend of the Story Speaker is one of my better liked TV episodes as it sheds some new light on longneck traditions and the importance of these stories and the speakers who pass them down in the herd.

I liked the story of Tall Stepper rescuing his sister from the wind as it gave a nice motivational tale with just enough fantasy elements in it to make it seem like a believable story that would be passed down to new generations.

For the drawing, one of my main goals was to try and go for a more simplefied background this time around as I always spend way too much time on it. Let me know what you think!

I like this episode too! And this story, when I watched it for the first time, it was pretty atmospheric for me.

About the picture - only minus I noticed in the very first second is that Tall Stepper looks like some different and bipedal dinosaur, with thin forearms, since for me while sister's arms are bigger when she is at the background. :)
Everything else is perfect for me, with awesome pencil shading! :D

A really beautiful drawing! I especially like the cleanliness. Although it seems simple in some way, the quality is not affected by it. The message which the drawing gives is received just the same good way. The mimic of Tall Stepper is also well done!
The ground, is it supposed to be water? It reminds me of water reflection in a beautiful way.
I find it really exciting that you have drawn one of the stories of the Story Speakers!  :DD

Yeah I can see how he can look bipedal here. He's supposed to be mid run but with how it's cropped that makes sense.

And yeah his forelegs might be a bit too thin, though Tall steppers legs do appear to be a bit thinner and longer in the episode, though his sister does indeed have some fat forelegs :p

Thanks for pointing those out!

It's actually supposed to be grass blowing in the wind? Just not a whole lot of effort put in haha. Most of that was focused on the mountains.

So, since I haven't seen much of the TV series I am not aware of this episode. However I do think you still managed to convey a clear connection between the two dinosaurs, their expressions blatantly clear. The background, while simple like you said, does the job just fine in this case. Lovely work! :)

Now this is a great drawing. The idea of doing the prompt about that episode is a funny one as we have seen very little drawings about the TV series. Like Iris said, the expressions work perfectly and the duo's connection is more than clear here. In fact, I'd say the characters look close to the best I've seen from you. And considering you wanted to streamline the background, it also looks great and it doesn't feel empty at all. Also, the wind recreates the scene's feeling perfectly. Great job with this drawing! :^^spike

I do not really recall what this tv-episode was like to be honest xD

Looks a little more dull than your usual work but it's as you said that you went for a simpler and less time-consuming look (which I can really relate to, believe me :DD) so that's absolutely alright haha.

Sounds like you need a refresher on the tv series then :p

As for the dull look, I'm sure if I had more contrast it would stand out a lot better, but I'm happy with how I finished it.

Ok, time for another drawing! This is my submission for the fanart prompt: Out of Character

It's everyone's favourite apathetic Apatosaurus, Littlefoot!  :PAli

I kept things even simpler this time, neglecting a background completely. I've been getting quite busy this summer so I've had less time to work on drawing. On another note, while I've always taken the picture of my drawings with my Nikon, this is the first time I've ever really done any post processing on the image (in this case bumping the contrast up)

As always, let me know what you guys think!  :)littlefoot

Yeah Cera is a prime choice for this isn't she? I left that spot blank for a long time to figure out what I wanted to draw. Was thinking either his Grandpa on the ground or maybe the whole gang running away. Decided on just Cera since it is quicker haha. Glad you liked it!

Honestly, I think the juxtaposition between the two make this. While the focus of the piece is clearly Littlefoot, it doesn't seem like an out-of-character moment in-film until it's contrasted with the tiny speck that is Cera in the BG.

Yeah taken by himself, there wouldn't be anything wrong with Littlefoot whistling a tune. Having a non-friendship type attitude was the first thing that came to mind for this prompt and I think everyone has humoured the thought of letting Cera get what she deserves from getting her head stuck too deep at least once. :p

Author's Note: This is my submission for the fanart prompt: Draw an OC. Italics denote sound/memories.

-----------------------------

Thud...

Thud...

Thud...

The exasperated stride of a theropod drudged slowly upwards as the Bright Circle began its descent across the sky, filling it with a bright orange that blended in with the both the dirt and figure creating an almost monochrome landscape. The dry, cracked earth easily depressing under the weight of each step, adding to the already arduous task at hand. The dinosaur briefly paused to look up, taking notice of the shifting colours above it as well as its remaining progress on its climb before continue its march again.

Thud...

Thud...

Using its arms to help lift itself, the theropod pushed itself over the top, with the resulting push and overall lack of strength caused it to fall flat on its stomach. Given the recent strain, this served as a nice moment for it to rest and regain some strength.

“I found you!”

A small, orange theropod eagerly pointed at a small bush tucked in between a tree and large boulder, the slight reveal of some purple feathers giving away another dinosaurs hiding spot. With a rustling of the leaves the once visible feathers receded behind the green, bushy veil. After a brief pause a pink leg reluctantly emerged and slowly reached out to the nearby grass, pressing down in a couple spots to ensure proper footing. Once confidence was achieved the remainder of the dinosaur quickly followed. While the first foot was placed with utmost care there was not enough time for the other from the shifting weight and it caught on part of the tree root, causing the pink theropod to fall belly first.

“...oww” the fallen dinosaur quietly let out as she blew upwards to try an move the feathers that had now fallen in front of her eyes away.

“How many times have I said you need to be more careful Cloolah?” the orange dinosaur sighed with both hands on his sides.

“No need to worry Brootie, it's why we have nice big bellies! So we can fall like this all the time!” The previous signs of injury soon gave way and she pushed herself back onto her feet. “Maybe if you stopped all that running around you do all the time you would have a nice big belly to fall on as well!?”

Brootie instinctively put his hands on his belly in response to Cloolah's teasing rebuttal before lowering his voice as he quickly looked at the surrounding area. “You've heard the Far Walkers passing by lately. No food to eat. All of them coming from over the hill where the Bright Circle rises.” He paused and stretched his neck up to look to towards the hill.“How long until that happens to-”

Cloolah placed a finger on Brootie's beak. “There you go again with the Far Walker talk. Our herd has always lived here with no problems at all so why would we do anything different? Remember what our leader always says? 'Stop worrying about tomorro'-”

“Hmph”

Brootie shoved the memory out of his mind and regained his awareness as he lifted himself back up. He was always quite different from others of his kind and the isolation and survival only helped to further that divide. His legs and arms were a lot more muscular with traces of small cuts and scars throughout his body gained over the years from skirmishes with sharpteeth. Most noticeably was a relatively less profound belly sticking out with 3 distinct scars across it that have only started to finally heal, contrasting the pinkish hue of the wound with the yellow. The differences didn't stop with the physical either, he never agreed with the apathetic nature his herd once shared. Caution and preparation were his personal wisdoms he always used, something that has served him well in his survival over the years.

After Brootie quickly brushed the dust off of him, he quickly took note of his new surroundings. The hill that he had climbed plateaued at the top, with the only distinct feature to stand out being a lone remains of a dinosaur near the edge on the far side that had also ventured up to this vantage point at some point. The bones were half buried in the ground and weathered beyond recognition, but that was hardly his concern at this point. With his strength recovered, the theropod moved towards the remains. He picked up a loose bone fragment and set one foot on top of the skull and gazed out, holding his other hand above his head to help block out the light from the Bright Circle, at the vast wasteland that was now in front of him.

It didn't take long for him to fixate on his new found targets as he scanned the landscape, a pair of Fast Biters on the edge of the desert dragging a lifeless body towards a series of rocks. That sort of cover and shelter provided that would be an ideal spot for their nest.

“Found you” Brootie grumbled to himself with the hint of a grin appearing on his face. With renewed determination, the orange Yellow Belly stepped off of his small perch and marched down the hill. His hunt had begun.

----------------------------

More Author's Notes: So I tried something a little out of my comfort zone this time around, with both making an OC myself as well as do a small little story to help give a small amount of back story for the character. This really does help reinforce why I'm not that interested in writing. Even though this is only around 850ish words it took me multiple days to finally get it on text where it made sense. I think the writing took longer then the drawing haha.

As for the drawing, the idea came indirectly from some suggestions that Iris gave to me as I wasn't sure what to do this time around (thanks Iris! :smile ). The idea came around as jokingly coming up with some form of antithesis to Yellow Bellies portrayed in 13. Also if I needed to have at least one OC under my name, having it be a Yellow Belly is a fun notion  :PCera

I agree with Mumbling's overall assessment of your drawing, Flathead770. You shaded your drawing quite nicely. I have no irks whatsoever for this creation.  I said it on his fanart thread, and I'll say it again here. There's a certain feeling you get with hand made drawings as opposed to digitized ones, very nostalgic/positive for me. The textures here can't simply be replicated with a computer program. Great job. I love the concept of a yellow belly character that deviates from the average herd mentality. Brootie is obviously someone you shouldn't make fun of.

I concur with everyone and agree that the orange shading and shadows are great, and I really like the foothold/pose that Brootie takes: really makes him seem so much more energetic and adventurous.

Ironically, the short story/synopsis reads more like a museum inscription: this individual deviates from the species norm. But I really like it... it really compliments the serious look on the yellowbelly's face. :)

Once again I can only second what people have already said. This is a completely another side of the yellowbellies that hasn't been seen before, and while it's quite ironic that a yellowbelly would be this fierce and determined to accomplish whatever task comes, it's not an impossible concept at all. I really have to disagree about your comments with the story part, as it really made me feel I had just stepped inside a captivating story of no return from, you definitely have the potential to create fantastic stories if you put your mind into it. The picture itself is nothing but the sort of fantastic, you have most certainly improved in your drawings lately, and while the drawing can be interpreted as a humorous one, the pose of the character creates that special kind of an atmosphere around the whole thing. And yeah... I wouldn't want to mess with Brootie either, that's a sure way to the Great Beyond right there!

Thanks everyone! Though I have to admit that I did do some post processing to improve the drawing. Upping the contrast to give it a more gritty look to it as well as using a tool to help darken the shaded areas more. Whether that's considered cheating in a way I'll leave up to you (though it is the benefit of having a DSLR that can shoot RAW images)

Haha I suppose you could look at it like that. Wasn't exactly my intention to go for the Lone Dinosaur vibes, mainly just coming up with a reason why a Yellow Belly would act the way he does. I guess now that you mention it, his story is a sort of "pack of sharpteeth came and gobbled up his nest" sorta thing haha :PCera

I suppose I theoretically have the ability to write a story, it's just that it takes way too long for me to actually do it. Like I feel like I if I was to participate in the fanfiction prompt I'd need to know the prompt a year in advance to finish in time :p I feel like that time could be put to use on getting more/better drawings done (not to mention the fanfiction section is already way more saturated then the fanart one). Glad you liked it though!

Really good job with this drawing, Flathead! I agree with the others that the coloring looks great and that the idea behind this picture really works. Likewise, the expression is very well done as well and the overall quality of this drawing is clearly one of your best. Once again, there could have been a background but it wasn't vital in a drawing like this. As for you and fanfics, while I agree that it would nice to see stories from you, you do have a point with art being rare on GoF and your drawings are the best here at this point. So do what you want but either way, I'm certain we'll see good stuff from you in the future as well. :^^spike

Thanks! Yeah a background would be nice but I had 2 reasons not to include it for this one. First is because coming up with and writing the story took extra time, and the other being the fact that this scene takes place during a sunset I feel like the sky's colour would make it harder for Brootie to stand out as well. At least that's what I think.

Sorry for the delay everyone, but I managed to get my prompt finished! I decided to go more based on the descriptive prompt: The world is not always a happy place. Not every adventure goes according to plan, not every person you meet has your best intentions in mind. Draw a scene which incorporates the theme of "Hurt" and/or "Fear". Maybe not necessarily hurt or fear for this but I couldn't get the idea out of my mind so I just went with it. You guys can be the judge if it counts or not :p

I originally wanted to draw something Pterano related for fear as I kinda had an idea for that but couldn't decide on how to draw it so with him in mind I decided on drawing a scene with him luring part of the herd. I was stuck on what I was going to do for the background for a few weeks and almost thought to just not include any of it to finish it quicker but thankfully it all started to fall into place this past Monday. I also felt like spending more time with the shading but I'm happy with the current results so I figured I'd just post it as is. Let me know what you guys think!

Wow, the scale of this piece seems to make it really stand out as a grand set piece. So many dinosaurs and a distinct background really add to it.

The shading on the contours of the bluff, the jagged rock Pterano is standing on, and the gray clouds around him give the entire areas that pop-up effect that causes the entire top-left portion of the image to stand out compared to the comparatively blander rock face on the right side. The glum faces of the dinosaurs strutting in a straight line towards a valley they might never find is heavily contrasted with the happier faces of those are wavering over to Pterano's side, best exemplified by the one swimmer who's tilting her head at Pterano contemplatively, her expression differing from the other cookie-cutter ones. All of these minor points really sells the effect of Pterano capitalizing on the herd's despondent fear of lumbering in the Mysterious Beyond as easy pickings to make a power grab of his own... yeah, I count it. :P

Of course, the faces and everything of the many dinosaurs are great, though Pterano is a little hard to make out if he wasn't in that iconic "destiny" pose. It is definitely a great artwork from you overall, Flathead... even if it does not end well for those who choose to deviate from the norm. :(

I guess if you imagine a scene or two after this the followers would be both hurt and in fear. This is some great work, Flathead! I love the detail you put in each and every dinosaur. Is that a sand slide or the like between the two mountains/rock walls?
Title: Re: Flathead770's Fanart

This picture most certainly stands out in so many ways even without coloring it manages to shed that special feeling of utter desperation with some of the herd turning to Pterano for help, while others watch from the sidelines with peeved expressions on their face. The venue where the eventual separation of the herd unfolds is quite delicately added into the drawing, and the detail speaks volumes of the artist’s abilities.

Paying heed to the expressions on some of the herd members, it is very clear that this recent separation has hurt them more than they let on. The emotions in this one include resentment, forlornness and indifference for the current developments. I have to say, this was probably one of the focal points in the drawing, as when the focus shifts to the bystanders, we get a clear view of their feelings at that moment, which was displayed phenomenally.

If there is one nitpick I can find, it’s that at first glance I couldn’t spot Pterano in the drawing, and I had to zoom in a little in order to spot him. This isn’t a big deal overall, but still something that caught my eye and attention. I really like the pose Pterano is using in his speech to his newfound followers expressing his desire for greatness he desperately convinces himself he already has to lead a herd. Like we all know, their journey would eventually end in departure of everyone except for Pterano, which only helps make this picture even more lamentable.

A fantastic piece from you this time, Flathead. I really liked this one! :)

Thanks everyone! I'm glad I finally finished that one.

OwlsCantRead
I'm glad you pointed out the increased shading towards the top left as that was intentional as I wanted the viewer to naturally draw their eyes toward that direction. As you say, the rock on the far right has no shading on it with the frequency of shading increasing towards the right. Now I must admit this also did help with saving time figuring out something to do with the right side. I also tried creating a type of leading line with the swimmer looking towards Pterano and the other dinosaur walking towards him. The darker clouds also hints towards their eventual fate.

Hah destiny pose, a fitting name. Yeah he did turn out to be quite small. I had him a bit larger in the initial sketch but as I started finalizing the other dinosaurs I realized that he'd be way too big so I shrunk him down.

Mumbling
Yeah some type of rock slide of gravel or something. Just kinda popped in my head when sketching out the background, though with the more simplified look it was hard to try and look convincing with just a bit of shading. I wanted to have something to try and keep the drawing from being too imbalanced or bland but I kinda feel that I maybe should have left it out.

Anagnos
Yeah it was a lot of fun to draw this one. When I started with the idea I wanted to try and maximize the dramatic irony and felt like having a moment where the dinosaurs are in the moment of breaking off from the main herd, with the dinosaur making the contemplating look towards Pterano being the swimmer that is focused more on in the movies. In my head canon its that swimmer who convinces the two behind it to join up with Pterano.

It is unfortunate that Pterano ended up being that small. Thankfully his poses are quite expressive so I don't have to worry as much with having a less detailed face.

Sneak/Ducky
Thanks! :DD

Now this looks rather good. The idea is quite good and the background looks rather awesome here. The perspective on the hills makes the drawing look more atmospheric and the dinosaurs' expressions in the front are very fitting for the scene. While I really like those as well, I'm a bit perplexed by the focus here as making Pterano the center of this picture would have made more sense but it's nice as it is. Good job as always! :smile
Title: Re: Flathead770's Fanart
Post by: Flathead770 on November 12, 2019, 07:18:05 PM
Well there's kinda two reasons he is where he is. First, I wanted to have a situation in where the dinosaurs are walking passed Pterano, stopping, then going back towards him and I feel like it would limit the space for me to do that if he's in the center. Second, I've kinda been trying to use a compositional guideline used in photography called the rule of thirds. It mainly deals with 2 aspects. One is that the horizon is on either the bottom or top third of the scene whether you are focusing on the foreground or sky. The other is that the 4 intersection points created by splitting the image into 9 equal pieces can be the ideal spot for the subject of the image. (An example below that's not mine)
Of course if you look at my drawing I don't really match up to where it's supposed to be. Not that I was measuring it out or anything, just drawing as I go. Thanks for the feedback though!

Oof, I'm way too late for this. Here's my entry for the final prompt, opting to go for the alternative option to draw a scene from a submitted fanfiction prompt. In this case I'm using Owls' Five Stages of Grief, so a big shout out to him for creating this story and letting me use it.

Taken from the 2nd stage of grief: anger. Now the original suggestion was to use Ducky's argument with Mr. Thicknose as it was to more developed and focused part of this stage, but upon reading it I felt like Ducky's conversation with her mother was far more visually descriptive. More specifically, it comes from these couple lines:

Ducky felt her mother's arm on her shoulders, and soon heard her gentle words as well. "Now, now, Ducky. I'm sure that he didn't make this decision lightly. Spike knows that you must be broken-hearted—"

"He does?" Ducky cut in as she folded her arms, breaking out of her mother's massage and turning around to glare at her in a rare show of defiance.

Now as for the drawing itself, since it was already late by quite a bit I had to speed it up and simplify the background with just blue sky. Thankfully Ducky's mom takes up most of the page so it covers it up a good amount. Unfortunately Ducky's mom is a bit of a mess. I'm sure she's all disproportionate and the angle of her arm and hand was very hard to try and draw. It mostly stems from a mix of her pose and how close she is/how much room she takes up on the page. I also started out with trying to get some green in her colour instead of going for the more brown look and it really didn't turn out in my opinion.

Another potential issue is that this scene doesn't really differentiate much visually from the 8th movie, so it might not really stand out as coming from a fanfic.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think of it.

Nice! I'd say you capture the specific scene really well. You can see the surprise and hurt in Mama Swimmer's eyes really well, and Ducky's expression of suspicion works well with the scene too. I like that you can see their footprints in the snow, though I'm missing the footprints of how they got there ;) But that's nitpicking! The colors are nice as well, I think green works well for her mother.

I've been looking forward to new drawings from you lately, Flathead. I can't really say the same that it manages to capture the specific scene well, as I haven't yet had the pleasure to read Owls' story (Sorry OwlsCantRead  :p). Even so, I've heard only good things about it, so it is no doubt a great story. That being said, I still can give my honest opinion on the drawing. I second Mumbling in her judgment that both Ducky and Mama Swimmer's expressions, and by extension their eyes are done very well. It is the detail in them that manages to tell exactly how each of them feel about the situation that has hurt and divided their family. The added details into the background work rather well and I have no nitpicks about that. Though, I do find it slightly odd that Mama Swimmer isn't in her usual color, but that does not mean that green doesn't look good on her. This is merely just a preference on my part, and I do believe you have managed to capture the main theme here elegantly. :duckyhappy

Well, sorry to always keep you waiting :p Glad you liked it though! Yeah I was trying to match her colour from one of the scenes in which she was kinda more of a dark green. I wasn't too happy with what I had and I didn't want to mix more colours in and potentially wreck it even more (I had done about 4 to 5 layers at this point already). If I went over it more in black I probably could have gotten it to look closer to what I was originally going for.

I'm definitely biased, but I actually forgot you wanted to use the story as a base until you reminded me. :p I had recommended it on the fly in Oct... :P

I know you seem unpleased with the shading, but imo the lighter pastel green (no doubt it's a traditional drawing thing, digital won't have that feel) and the overall icy blue tone gives the piece a soft and winter-y feel, one very suitable for the chilly Cold Time in LBT8. I love the texture of the snow, as even though it's white the depression of the footprints and the frozen lake really sells it.

I really the juxtaposition between Ducky and her mothers expression and posture. Ducky looks suitably incensed by Mama Swimmer, and the dispassionate eyelids sells that. Mama Swimmer is suitably concerned by her daughter's attitude change. Since I wrote the piece, I will say that Ducky does lambast her mother in the film itself, but not to the extreme in the story (plus, the background is different :p).

Yeah, I really like this piece. Thanks for using Five Stages of Grief as a base! I really appreciate the offer! :duckyhappy

The green in Ducky's mother looks a little strange but I wouldn't say it's a bad choice. I'm no expert but  her neck seems a little too short to me.

As for Ducky, I'm not sure what it is but her facial expression seems slightly off and she looks a little non-Ducky like (though that might be because she is out of character here)

Either way, it's a great drawing  ;)Cera

Great job as always, Flathead! It's good to see you making more art about fanfics so this was already a nice surprise as Owls' story is amazing. As for the drawing, I like it as well and Ducky's mother's expression just works. Her concern for her daughter is really palpable and creates a good feeling overall. My main issue here is Ducky's expression as it doesn't really fit my vision about her reaction to her situation. She could look a bit more angry and frustrated but it's fine as it is. Good job overall. :^^spike

Yeah it is quite similar haha. I'm not a fan of the green but there's no undoing once you start so I just had to run with it. Like I said before, I could've tried to darken it to try and match it better but that would have required another layer or two of colouring at least and I didn't want to spend anymore time on it since I'm so late.

Ducky's mother was hard in general as it was at a strange angle with no good references so I had to wing it. With her position the neck is supposed to be curled behind the head and out of sight. Take a look at the attached image for a rough overhead view of what I mean.

For Ducky the face could very well be off in some way. Ducky's body and face were the first thing I drew and did it all by memory.

My main issue here is Ducky's expression as it doesn't really fit my vision about her reaction to her situation. She could look a bit more angry and frustrated but it's fine as it is. Good job overall. :^^spike
I'm not sure how much more angry I could make her honestly, unless she's shouting or something. Tthis was supposed to be the instance she broke from her mother trying to console her so she wasn't quite speaking yet. And yeah it can be interesting drawing art based on fanfics. Actually can be nice sometimes as it gives a good start with location and setting instead of coming up with something yourself :p Glad you liked it!

It’s pretty cool to know that you made something to represent a scene in one of Owl’s fanfics. Looking through the entire drawing, I’m rather satisfied by the simplistic approach of only a blue background, which contributes to the winter theme that takes place here. It may look bland by itself, but with Ducky’s mother blocking most of the background, it does fine here. Reading your own criticisms, there were some that I personally disagreed about. I can’t seem to pinpoint any proportional or weird discrepancies about Ducky’s mother, but that’s only my perspective. And as some others already mentioned, I actually like the usage of green for her skin, just like Ducky. The shading is nice and clean as always, and the emotion was captured well for the mother. As for Ducky herself, I’m not too sure. Yes, she does look disgruntled at best, which is kinda what I imagined she’d be, but the expression doesn’t seem...genuine enough? It felt weird and I couldn’t share the feelings of anger that she was supposed to have here. Now that I think about it, it’s like one of those “I’m cool” poses if you get what I’m saying, instead of “I’m cross with you.” But I digress. It’s still a great piece of art regardless. Keep up the good work! :)

Very nice drawing, Flathead. I don't have a whole lot to add beyond what everyone else has already said. Even though it isn't Mama Swimmer's official colour, I actually think the slightly darker green suits her a little better than brown does.

Thanks Stardust and Impractical!

Wanted to have this done in time for Sharptooth's showcase, but with the extra time I was at least able to get it coloured. Here is my submission for the prompt: Villains off-duty

I like to think that before the first movie Sharptooth was a lot more happy then he was portrayed and that the main reason he was so upset that he could no longer enjoy all the flowers. Maybe his true goal was to get into the Great Valley to enjoy them once again?  :PCera
Also, what better way is there to burn off some extra energy after a nice meal? :p

Anyways, let me know what you guys think!

Poor Sharptooth...

Well, it's his problem.

As for myself - then:
MY SUBGOD. I was freaked out after I saw this. :O
But I have to say, it's drawn PERFECTLY. XD
Nice job!

Well, yeah, that 100% was his motive all along as that's very consistent with what we've seen. :bestsharptooth As for the drawing itself, it's very good and his expression looks quite amazing and happy. Maybe the background could have been more detailed but overall, very decent work. :)

Yeah that's true. I originally wanted to have it finished before the end of January so I made the idea quite simple. Was also going to just shade it to help save time but once it looked like I wasn't actually going to make it I decided to colour it as well to get those nice flowers to stick out a bit more.

Hehe, great to see this one all finished! I like the soft colors :)

I have some very small points of feedback for this piece:
- I like that you added a shadow underneath Sharptooth, and this might look even better if you add his features to the shadow (e.g. tail and leg location), instead of having a round circle.
- The flowers seem to have been carefully planted there by a gardener (then again, that might be what Sharptooth is doing :D ). For a bit more natural look, try to place them in "random" locations + perhaps several close together.
- I think Sharptooth's "snout" might be a bit too long? But that might also be the angle, not sure ^^

Other than that I think this drawing is very smooth and looks great! Good job :)

This certainly managed to take me by surprise when I saw it first thing this morning. :p

Well, this is rather interesting and even slightly jocular mental image. To think that the big bad sharptooth simply wanted to enjoy the glory of flowers. In another universe where the events in the film were vastly different, I could see this as the prospective contrast in the predator's life. Alas, none of that was granted to the misunderstood creature, and this drawing starts to put things into perspective. In a few words, let me say that this is a rather great oeuvre from you, Flathead. In fact, I had very hard time finding anything wrong with it, so congratulations for exceeding my presumptions. :o

The pastel soft colors lends a gentle and serene atmosphere to this piece, which really fits how merry and perfect everything is. :Mo

It's such a stark contrast from what we expect and know about Sharptooth that I can't help but be entranced by the setting this piece depicts. The pose he's in (gingerly holding a foot up as if he's afraid of treading on the flowers) tells almost as much as the jolly smile on his face as he holds a bouquet in his hands. Maybe Sharptooth is celebrating Valentines' Day. :bestsharptooth

Yeah, great job! Always can count on a different and unique piece with your style every prompt. :^^spike

-Yeah, it can be really hard to try and project a shadow underneath. I've practiced it a couple times and it usually just looks bad :p Something I'll need to practice a bit more on for sure.
-Yeah we can pretend that Sharptooth has a whole garden that he's been working on this whole time  :bestsharptooth At first I wanted to create a whole bunch of them to make it more of a flower field, but found out right away that it would be way too time consuming. In the end I just decided to draw a few of them instead.
-That could very well be true. I honestly never looked to close at a reference for this one and just kinda sketched him out haha. I did look at some references for colours afterwards but at that point I wasn't really worried about the lineart.

Thanks for the feedback!

While it's basically the same art style you've been utilizing for the past few drawings, they've been executed with near perfection consistently, time after time. You've nailed the ecstatic expression on his face and the carefree/goofball like nature represented by his posture and the bouquet of flowers in his claws. I honestly like the trend of portraying antagonists as misunderstood/normal beings that have many of the same interests or likes that other "normal" people have. I internally squealed with joy when I first saw this picture, it was so adorable and outright ridiculous. Other than the very uniform cloud and flower pattern that could look more natural, and perhaps more shadow detail under Sharptooth himself (all of this which was pointed out by other people already), I have no complaints.

:chompysmile :Mo

Thanks Stardust! Yeah I can totally picture him singing that song right now :lol

Haha thanks ImpracitcalDino! Yeah it's fun coming up with unexpected things for characters sometimes. On the topic of uniform cloud formations, the placements were actually intentional. The reason being is to help fill out the rest of the page  with "stuff" so to speak so it feels less empty. One of the reasons why it might not be completely random is that while the clouds can be a nice touch, I didn't want them to be behind Sharptooth and distract from his pose. That was very much a more deliberate choice then the placement of the flowers.

Amazing sketch of the Spinosaurus in XI! I use to sketch dinosaurs a lot. Haven’t in a long time though. :(

Thanks though! Honestly looking back at it, I'm still quite happy with how it turned out, even if it was directly referencing a scene. As for sketching dinosaurs, no time like the present to jump back into it! Heck, I did the same with this LBT fanart after years of not drawing.

Honestly, am I the only one who thinks that Rhett over here looks more like Littlefoot than actual Littlefoot on the left side? Yes... I do believe I would prefer that much better, but since Rhett's coat is more dark brown, this must be untrue. :cry Done in a few hours, that's pretty impressive even for someone that I can always count to draw high quality drawings. Despite my personal feelings about the April Fools' Rhett prank, this is seriously and genuinely a great piece. All the longnecks look as they should. The tears in Littlefoot eyes, the smug and condescending demeanor Rhett has as he flashes his rival a smirk, and Ali's genuine face of joy - all of which sets the tone for a classic romantic tragedy where Littlefoot does not get the girl. :(

And yes, as Anagnos said... you did this+shading in a couple of hours? Wow, great job! :PAli

Honestly, am I the only one who thinks that Rhett over here looks more like Littlefoot than actual Littlefoot on the left side?

Really, I think that even the character in the show looks too much like Littlefoot. There actually could be other longneck colors besides brown, character designers...Ali is already one Littlefoot look-alike, nobody asked for another!

Thanks everyone! Yeah I started it in the morning of April Fools' as I got inspired by Rhett's amazing fanart. I'd say it took a few hours of work total stretched out a couple times throughout the day.

@Sneak
Yeah, it is a happy day for the LF x Cera shippers haha

@Anagnos
Yeah I tried to make Rhett quite unambiguous with no eyelashes and a bit darker colouring. The other two might be up to debate. As Mumbling has mentioned to me, it could be Ali heartbroken as she looks upon Littlefoot and Rhett sharing their true feelings. Now that's the sequel we need to see!  :bestsharptooth

@OwlsCantRead
Yeah I came up with the more minute details as I started drawing. Deciding that it would be way better if Rhett was eyeing Littlefoot down with one eye, adding even more insult to the situation. Same thing with Ali's foreleg lifted up and her tail wrapped around her leg to try and give off a more affectionate look.

@RainbowFaceProtege
Yeah it would be nice if they upped their variety game. It's a TV show though so whatever is easiest and fastest was probably what they did.

@Flathead770: Haha, yeah. I was literally there after midnight at the start of April Fools to see this Rhett fiasco unfold, and I knew I had to play along with this joke. I couldn't deny myself the fun, could I? :p

You captured Littlefoot's emotion perfectly in this sort of situation. Yep, I'd be heartbroken too if this girl fell for this guy's pompous and manipulative, but yet at the same time charming attitude. Good job adding Rhett's braggart gaze at the last second, it really sealed the deal of this drawing for me. :)

How long did it take for all of those Rhett emotes by the way?
Title: Re: Flathead770's Fanart

Thanks ImpracticalDino! It's hard to say exactly as it was done a little bit at a time over a couple days in the beginning of March. I could sketch a around 4 of them in around an hour or so? After I was done that I cleaned them up and went over them with a marker, took a picture of each one to trace the bitmap and convert them to digital. Once I got the colour palette and first emote fully created, the others were really easy to finish from there. Total time was easily 5 hours but probably not higher then 10.

Alright, here's my entry for the fanart prompt: Crossover: Let your mind wander to another show or video game. Which characters will the gang meet there or create a scene of what game you would like to see with LBT characters.

For this I did more of a unique game rather then a crossover with an existing one. For those who have been around since the starting days of my art then you might remember these sprites I did

(http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa86/mrmeat770/Ruby_Idle.gif) (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa86/mrmeat770/Chomper_Idle.gif)
(wow still have these on Photobucket?)

They were basically idle animations for what they could look like in a fighting game. Well, almost 2 years later and I've come back to that idea to create a scene of what an LBT fighting game could look like! I call it, Land Before Time: Friendship Fighters  :bestsharptooth

Time is running out in the 3rd round and Chomper is going in for the victory. But wait! Seems like Littlefoot has a trick up his sleeve and has baited Chomper in so he can use his special attack. Who will come out on top?

A-ma-zing work, Flathead! Pixel art can take forever, especially with the dithering that you went for in the gradient lines. I like the confident expressions on the characters. The detail you put into the background/stage is great as well! I can definitely imagine this waterfall flowing and the trees moving in the wind. I like the green outline on Littlefoot as well, really gives it that game-y feel! I wonder what Littlefoot's superpower is!

It finally happened... It was their destiny.
Littlefoot vs Chomper
longneck vs sharptooth
Death battle...

This is just amazing!

You diod a background too? :O

THIS IS AWESOME!!  :Mo :Mo :Mo This feels like a dream come true as someone who believes TLBT has fighting game potential. This is so amazingly done, it looks legit! I just imagine it having a combo systems that is similar to MvC and Jojo Heritage for the Future.

While "Friendship Fighters" is a comedic name and I like it :bestsharptooth , I feel like if it were to have a serious name, it be "Dawn of the Dinosaurs" or something like that.

This game needs to be a reality. X)

Yeah, I really like this piece! Always was a fan of games as a kid. This picture seems to be going for a soft cel-shaded cartoony look and it succeeds in conveying that style with  a softer palette around the falls, some distinctly sprite-like trees through parallax backgrounds, the gamey font, and the oval shadows by Chomper and Littlefoot. The thicker outlines around the close-up of Littlefoot (:yum) really give the impression of it being a zoomed-in sprite and thus a game. Fun and great job! :chompysmile

Also, if this game were a reality I think certain characters will have an unfair advantage over others. Ducky's hurtbox will be minuscule, and Petrie gets strong aerials. Pfft.
Title: Re: Flathead770's Fanart
Post by: Flathead770 on April 24, 2020, 11:57:48 AM
@Mumbling
Thanks! Yeah the dithering took quite a while to do (and now I realize I forgot to do it for the mountains haha) Yeah I like the green outline on Littlefoot as well! As for his superpower....that's up to your imagination! :p

@Sneak
Haha yeah it was inevitable that they would do battle! Yes I did do the background. Everything was initially drawn out on paper and then digitized using Inkscape, then traced over using Piskel. The only things directly imported from Inkscape were the big Littlefoot face and the giant treestar behind because they were big enough that I could do thick lines with a marker. The text and health bars were created from scratch in Piskel however. Glad you liked it!

@Goldenwind
I've heard you mention an LBT fighting game so I knew you would like this surprise!  :)littlefoot
Friendship fighters was a last minute decision when I was posting it on DA because I realized I needed a title haha. Having the alliteration in there was neat I thought and of course having friendship in the title is a funny choice given that it's a fighting game  :PCera

@OwlsCantRead
Haha yeah something would have to be done to help balance some of the characters. I think I would have to make Petrie and Ducky a little bit bigger so at least low and standard attacks would hit them. They would generally have lower reach on their attacks and would have to get very close to their targets so a character that can outspace them could be a bad match-up against them. Someone like Littlefoot using longer reach tail attacks or something. I've thought about Petrie and I'd feel he'd have to have a sort of fly gauge so he couldn't just fly around the whole match. Also could fine tune total health values for characters as well to help balance.
My general archetype thought process for each would probably be something like this:

Littlefoot: Technical spacing with tail attacks
Ruby: Rushdown combo
Cera: Rushdown but more focus on heavy attacks. Maybe a super armor charge attack that can be used to chase a retreating option.
Spike: Typical slow moving heavyweight, super armor on attacks character
Chomper: Would probably be the most balanced fighter
Ducky: Probably another combo based fighter, but having a smaller hurtbox, less speed and reach then Ruby
Petrie: Another spacing character that involves quickly darting in and out since he doesn't have the reach of Littlefoot.

Rhett would be just Littlefoot but he would one shot every character with a tail swipe  :rhett_brag
Brootie would be OP just because  :PCera
OK joking with the last ones haha

Flathead, this looks awesome! You captured the style of a video game so perfectly, pixels and all! There isn't really much else I can say that other people haven't already said, but fantastic work! I would totally play this game--as long as the Gang is just pretending, right? :lol ("Sharptooth Attack" went a little too far!)

I love the artwork here as it does capture the stylized graphics of some of my favorite fighting games of the 90s. I can only imagine that the promo to this game would involve everyone suggesting games until it is determined that it is Cera's turn to pick the game.  The result is a forgone conclusion.   x(cera :bestsharptooth

So for those who might remember, about a year ago I decided to make my very own OC for the fanart prompt and this (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15568.msg489614#msg489614) was the result. I decided to continue the little story I had wrote for the current prompt: draw a comic

(https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/6c2fcddb-698f-43e0-be56-ce4909a26b4b/ddyij80-6c18f6f6-cdc7-4354-ae57-250a520d0e04.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOiIsImlzcyI6InVybjphcHA6Iiwib2JqIjpbW3sicGF0aCI6IlwvZlwvNmMyZmNkZGItNjk4Zi00M2UwLWJlNTYtY2U0OTA5YTI2YjRiXC9kZHlpajgwLTZjMThmNmY2LWNkYzctNDM1NC1hZTU3LTI1MGE1MjBkMGUwNC5qcGcifV1dLCJhdWQiOlsidXJuOnNlcnZpY2U6ZmlsZS5kb3dubG9hZCJdfQ.96orjNNYwzVcngC-LU9P0gG_ZUbKmbBOac3XkaAsPog)

Hmmm I wonder what's going to happen? Gotta wait to find out  :PCera
I feel like I might have jumped too far in-between certain frames, but I already have so many planned that it would be way too long to draw them all out haha. It's also very strange trying to draw a story out like this with very little dialogue.

All good Iris. Thanks! Yeah I suppose I've had plenty of practice drawing smaller images so it wasn't too much of a stretch for me.

Of course Owls! Who else would it be?  :PCera Yeah thicker lines don't work as well when drawing smaller shapes. I'm glad you like the first frame as it was the type of wide angle background drawing that I would've wanted to include in my original drawing of Brootie.

But in all seriousness, this is excellent work, Flathead.  :)  I must admit that I missed Brootie when he was first presented, and I am glad this comic has alerted me to the previous artwork.  This dinosaur is truly the antithesis of the yellowbellies that we saw in the 13th film.  :PCera  Now I am curious what the gang would think if they ever came across the lone yellowbelly.  :thinking

I'll say it before and I'll say it again. This pic is bloody marvelous and not just literally but figuratively as well.

The pic has captured the emotional scene perfectly just by the expressions of the characters as they finally are able to understand and forgive each other and move on. It is so satisfying and emotional to me. The background desert is done very well with the signs of their Sura and Striker's struggle visible in the sand and the scratches on their bodies.

I still see the blood as a little to light but it doesn't take anything away, it is very obvious that Sura and Striker are both hurt and the scars on Sura's body including her neck only remind those who have read the story of the previous run ins those two have had with each other.

Striker is also a little on the light side but it it but a minor thought, he really comes into his own here and while he may look a little like Taunt there is just something in his expression that is undeniably Striker. Apart from those tiny nitpicks in colouring, Sura and Striker are drawn perfectly and I have to say that Chomper is drawn perfectly here as the mediator and interpreter for their conversation and he looks so satisfied to see them sort out their differences.

Words can hardly describe how much I love this pic. You have really outdone yourself, very impressive for your first commission and it is almost perfect in every way. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

They are all OCs created by various members. Here's the list of them:

Left Flyer: Pearlwing (DiddyKF1's OC)
Middle Flyer: Valaria (Rhombus' OC)
Right Flyer: Gryphon (OwlsCantRead's OC)

Left Swimmer: Diver (The Lone Dragon's OC)
Middle Swimmer: Oxbow (OwlsCantRead's OC)
Right Swimmer: Echo (The Lone Dragon's OC)

Hopefully I didn't screw anyone's OC up :p

Ohh this is very cool! I'm not really familiar with most of the OC's, but I think their character traits are quite visible in this picture. Nice job :D

Awesome, as always, Flathead!

Valaria totally looks like Petrie's mom who looks at her son after another of his dangerous travels ... Or is it Petrie's mom herself?
And Oxbow looks so cute here! ^^

I don't think Flathead made it clear, but the swimmers and flyers in this piece are specifically Petrie and Ducky's siblings in different continuities, more specifically the favorite of their headcanon creations. So in this case, I went around asking, and Valaria is Rhombus', Pearlwing is Diddy's, etc.

Valaria totally looks like Petrie's mom who looks at her son after another of his dangerous travels ... Or is it Petrie's mom herself?
I believe Rhombus actually pitched forward that Valaria looks a lot like her mom (think the flyers at the end of LBT1), so yeah. :P

Well, what can I say? I really like this piece. I like how everyone came out, but I admit I am biased for Oxbow's "pls help me" look. Aside from that, I like the angling where everyone ends up in a nice circle of sorts. Great job on the piece, Flathead! You really brought everyone's swimmers and flyers to life! :duckyhappy

I absolutely love this drawing, Flathead.  :)littlefoot You really have captured Valaria's appearance in this drawing as I imagined her as looking a lot like her mother, albeit with a bit more sass from time to time.  :PCera

Don't be afraid to draw your vision of OC if there's no any original source pictures of some characters. :D
It's not just like some sharptooth bites off your head if your interpretation of their character won't please them. Right? :D
...
...right?..

Alright, got a quick drawing done for the prompt: Draw a book cover

After 5 years I'm gonna be going back to University (whether that's a good idea or not remains to be seen :p ) so I wanted to rush this one out before classes started. I guess it's another comic but I didn't know what else to do haha

Littlefoot: OMG you don't like to sing?? How can you be a living being and not like to sing?? It's like breathing!! It holds the Circle of Life together!! :anger :anger :anger Why--

Mr. Thicknose: Ehh, your time's up, Littlefoot, I'm taking over again!
Great job as always, Flathead, this definitely got some amusement out of me! Those last two panels... :SharptoothAmused

I like that little Ouranosaurus you included in the group, too! One of the more underused background species from the movies, but one I always thought was cool!

Sounds like Littlefoot needs to sing a song to vent his rage  :bestsharptooth

Thanks! Yeah I was trying to come up with dinos to draw. The swimmer and flyer were due to being lazy since I just recently drew them :p I figured I should have a bit more variety though so it's not just a gang 2.0. And yeah I agree it is always cool to see them pop up!

I like the comic panel style telling a story, who says you can't tell a story. Good job! I do feel like the other children are reminiscent of the gang, but aside from that it's a splendid job!

@Sneak Glad you like the comic style! It can be fun to do, and seemed to work well with this prompt too!

@Sovereign Yeah I knew I wanted to have some sort of satirical conversation to lead into those final two panels. After that, singing felt like a natural point to bring up :p

@OwlsCantRead I do  :PCera
I don't doubt my ability to actually tell a story, but more-so that fact that it would take an eternity for me to write haha.

"But what if you cannot find any boulders, Mr. Littlefoot?"
"If you can't find any, then then that just means you are not looking hard enough."
Yeah, child!  Do you expect instant gratification?  The comic had me snickering 'till the end after that!
"If you're ever afraid, alone, sad, happy, or anything in between really, singing a song is really the most optimal thing you can do."
Flyer: "What if you don't like to sing?"
Littlefoot's reaction, HA HA HA!!!!   :Mo  I think he's trying to explain the phenomena of plot armour and crowd singing, without really realising that they're phenomena in the first place.

Littlefoot: "... I'm sorry ... what was that?"
Flyer: "What if you don't like singing?"
Littlefoot: "... I hear the words, but I don't understand the way you're putting them together.  I know!  Why don't you sing it?"
Flyer: "I don't want to."
Littlefoot: "... Come again?"
Flyer: "I don't want to sing.  I don't like singing."
Littlefoot: (Thinking) He's trying to speak to me, I just know it.

Went with the typical Grandpa Longneck and Mr. Threehorn and threw in Pterano for good measure  :rhett_brag
Tried to do something different with the background and not give it dark lines.

Wanted to make sure I finished this year with doing all the prompts. With this finished and with me going back to University, I more then likely won't be doing much in terms of drawing anymore due to me taking so darn long to getting any drawings done  :PLoofah I managed to participate in every prompt since I came back in 2017 at least so I'm happy I managed that.

First off, yeah Iris beat me to it, but I did have this idea in my head before she posted hers, I swear  :bestsharptooth

With the palette swap, Ducky is trying her best to do a fancy flyer pose with Petrie judging how well she does.

First off, just want to say that I swear it's not my intention that I happen to be copying Iris for all these prompts this year. She just happens to be faster then me  :PLoofah

Anyways, this is a sequel to my fan favourite drawing last year, Three Longnecks (https://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=15568.msg509217#msg509217) (though maybe a prequel better describes this one). Looks like Rhett has caught the eye of Ali...or is it Littlefoot? No one knows  :bestsharptooth

Based on the distracted boyfriend (https://blog.tmb.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/distracted-boyfriend-3.jpg?width=700&height=466&name=distracted-boyfriend-3.jpg) meme.

I like the ambiguity of your three longnecks drawings. RhettxLittlefoot4ever  :ozzysmug
One day I'll deviate from your ideas  :PLoofah And of course LF x Rhett is the best ship!  :rhett_brag

agai n this meme? XD And these three characters? Really? XD Actually, I predicted that. :P

good one!
Am I becoming that predictable? Yeah probably a rhettorical question  :bestsharptooth

Great drawing  :Mo

I was hoping someone'd do this meme for the prompt.
A great, glad I could have this covered then!  :chompysmile

Rhett is showing Doc how to properly use a tail  :rhett_brag

Just a quick comic sketched up. Maybe one day I'll make a better detailed drawing when I can find the time/motivation, but for now these simpler ones will have to do. Enjoy!  :rhett_smile

Lovely work, as always! Hey a comic is quite a lot of work, you don't have to view it as less detailed/simple ;)

I haven't been too active lately so this is the first time meeting you memesaurus. Welcome to the GoF!  :rainbowwave And thanks!

Oh yeah, the Lone Dinosaur better stay away if he wants to keep his reputation  :rhett_brag

Thanks! Indeed it was perfection, as anything Rhett would do  :rhett_smile

Lovely work, as always! Hey a comic is quite a lot of work, you don't have to view it as less detailed/simple ;)
Yeah there is a good amount of work that still goes into it, but way less overall than a fully drawn and coloured drawing. And thanks!

Wow, your drawings look really, really good, and it was interesting to browse your gallery and see your development throughout the years.
Your expressions and poses are very lively. Keep up the good work!

Hey thanks! Yeah it's been interesting getting back into drawing over these last 4 or so years. Not sure if I have the time/motivation to push myself to improve substantially from here on out but I guess we'll see what happens. I've just been trying my best to keep up with the fanart prompts really  :PLoofah

I was not anticipating that at all!  Hilarious subversion of expectations!  Now that I think about it, this is EXACTLY the kind of story Rhett would tell if he encountered Doc and there were no other witnesses ... he'd also tell that tale if he DIDN'T encounter Doc.   :SharptoothAmused

Is it really subversion when Rhett is just that great?  :rhett_brag  :PLoofah

Thanks!

Just in the nick of time, I have appeared from the shadows to participate in a fanart prompt once again! Here is my submission for the prompt: Age up/age down

(https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/6c2fcddb-698f-43e0-be56-ce4909a26b4b/df8bh0a-f71a25af-9a17-4413-a8e8-be8763085c2d.jpg/v1/fill/w_1920,h_1431,q_75,strp/heart_stealer_by_flathead770_df8bh0a-fullview.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7ImhlaWdodCI6Ijw9MTQzMSIsInBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcLzZjMmZjZGRiLTY5OGYtNDNlMC1iZTU2LWNlNDkwOWEyNmI0YlwvZGY4YmgwYS1mNzFhMjVhZi05YTE3LTQ0MTMtYThlOC1iZTg3NjMwODVjMmQuanBnIiwid2lkdGgiOiI8PTE5MjAifV1dLCJhdWQiOlsidXJuOnNlcnZpY2U6aW1hZ2Uub3BlcmF0aW9ucyJdfQ.PAvbUfUN2cHHhFlsSmGMAKvSCClNk0-gO7t65znITgc)

Combining this prompt with the first prompt of the year of "favourite" couple. Ruby and Chomper have been aged up, which has created an unlikely pairing that no one suspected. Is Ozzy upset in Strut's new choice in partner, or that fact that he has indulged in some "plant popping"? It's up to you to decide  :ozzysmug

Welp, I wasn't expecting that.  :rhett_shocked

Good to see Strut has found someone who accepts him for the leaf-lover he is. Also I can't stop laughing at Ozzy and Chomper in the background. This is amazing, and it's great to see you doing some fanart again!

Why haven’t I commented on this thread yet?? Especially since I know you draw a lot! I am in shame, because look at all these wonderful masterpieces! You are so good at traditional art, the lines look so clean and smooth! I’ve seen most of the pics on here, but this one amused me the most.

Yep, I can see this happening. Rhett is just too good for this world.  :M'Rhett Love the smooth sketches, it’s so satisfying to look at!

Aww, such unique love! I’ve never considered this pairing since these characters never met, but you seem to make it  work. Also what…. Ozzy eating his veggies??? Not sure how I didn’t even see this one, especially since it’s recent. Geez… But anyway, you did a fantastic job, I’m amazed at your work!

Oh hey thanks a lot Jewel! Yeah since I don't keep up with it as much as I used to my topic falls off a bit on the main page and can be harder to find. Glad you liked them though  :rhett_brag :rhett_smile

As for the Ruby x Strut, I just figured I would go with the craziest pairing I could come up with haha.

I've seen some older ones as well, but I just now realized that you meant Strut, not Ozzy. woops.
