Ah, we have another Ruby fan! I thought that I was the only one.She is my favorite character as well. I think that her unique situation of being on the periphery of multiple groups (being a child, but being expected to care for a child; being an omnivore, so not fitting in with either group; etc.) and her showing of melancholy in a few television episodes makes her a potentially complex character especially in the context of fanfiction where such possibilities can be explored.
