And now the official trailer is out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szBdg_uZ5uc

I am getting a lot of LBT vibes what with Talon's mother dying to a T.rex.

42
I've noticed this about the channel too. It doesn't make sense for them to have so many views on each video when they post the same videos over again. At least they're uploading clips from the movies now. I'm pretty sure it's just the kids clicking on the videos though, with the occasional adult re-watching them and wondering where their childhood went.  :lol

Well, think of the bright side: that's a big primary audience for more LBT media!

43
As part of my recent binge to refamiliarize myself with the series, I was taking a look at the infamous LBT Youtube channel which has all of the TV show's episodes uploaded onto it in full. I had heard that some kids were getting into LBT from the channel's uploaded clips but I did not expect the insane view counts some of the episodes got.

The record belongs to "The Hidden Canyon," which has a whopping 25 million views. Other episodes with massive view counts are "The Brave Longneck Scheme," with 12.1 million views, and "The Meadow of Jumping Waters," with 7.1 million views. Of course, most episodes have significantly lower view counts than this, with many numbering below 1 million views.

I'm still baffled that a supposedly dead franchise is getting so many views on Youtube. Is it just the Youtube Kids algorithm feeding it to bored kids who want to watch hatchlings running around? Or is it coming from older people who remember the franchise? If it's the former, then it actually is encouraging because it suggests that a new generation of children are getting introduce to LBT through these Youtube clips, years after the series' heyday on DVD. Perhaps that would lay the groundwork for new entries to be produced?

We may enjoy hating on the channel, but it may have accidentally done something good after all.

General Land Before Time / Re: First Land Before Time Film
« on: January 02, 2023, 05:06:07 PM »
The first for me was VIII, which was lucky because it was definitely one of the best sequels in my opinion. I later watched the original and VII-X, then tried to watch some of the others on Youtube back before the copyright was as strongly enforced. This was all before I turned 10, BTW.

45
For me I was mainly familiar with the original and VII-X, as those were what we had on DVD. Later I lost them but I tried to watch some of the earlier films on Youtube back before the copyright police became as prevalent. I don't quite remember which ones I watched as my memory has faded for some reason. I do know that I never watched II, III, V, and VI. I also tried to watch the TV show from unauthorized clips on Youtube but eventually I just got bored and that was when I gave up on the franchise for years. This happened when I was 9, around late 2010. My family was poor and staying with relatives back then so we didn't buy any of the disks of the movies in question.

Have you watched Animaniacs? Did you like it?

Not really. I was a 2000s kid, not a 90s kid.

What do you think of the 1969 Moon Landing?

I think it was one of the greatest accomplishments in human history and it was a great loss that we didn't establish a longer manned presence on the Moon because of the ineffective and ill-conceived Space Transportation System architecture.

This looks nice!

Is that Littlefoot on the picture?  :thinking

Yes. Don't worry, he'll be fine by the next time loop.

First up is a preliminary cover by the GoF's very own The Mr E!

I’ve mostly been playing Terra Invicta, which is basically a hard science fiction cross between XCOM and a Paradox Interactive Grand Strategy Game.

Looks fantastic!

With my fall semester, I have finally begun something that has been in the works for a while: an interactive CYOA crossover (known as a "quest") between LBT and Outer Wilds on the Sufficient Velocity forums. This is something that will be run like a mechanics-light adventure game, but it is something I intend to turn into a fanfiction while complete. If you're interested in participating, here is the link.

Ah, Kaiserreich. It was my first taste of alternate-history in Hearts of Iron IV, though I've since moved on to TNO, which I am on the dev team of.

I want to say that I appreciate you spending the time to write all of this. As the team leader of a space race story, I've been doing a lot of research into Apollo myself. I may post something of my own related to spaceflight in the History section in the near future.

I'll admit, I missed out on MLP when it had its moment in the spotlight. However, I am familiar with it due to my involvement with two of its fanworks. The first, and the one that also made me rediscover LBT, is Equestria at War, a total conversion modification for the WW2 grand strategy Hearts of Iron IV set in a magitech dieselpunk version of Gen 4's world, featuring complex narratives, politics, nation-building, and warfare:

It's quite a fun play if you have HoI IV and it inspired me to create my own dieselpunk world, Paravian.

Another MLP story I've followed is an interactive fanfiction that crosses over with Cultist Simulator. The players vote on the actions of Velvet Covers, a noblemare who has been inducted into the occult world that hides behind Equestria's shiny exterior. She must brave the House of the Sun to find a way to save her world from annihilation:

MLP and cosmic horror is a strange combination, but it works quite well and I've taken some inspiration from it in The Lands Beyond, my upcoming Outer Wilds/LBT crossover quest also on Sufficient Velocity
