General Land Before Time / Crush?
« on: January 06, 2006, 05:42:02 AM »
Cera tends to be somewhat susceptable to jealous feelings, and we can likely agree that jealousy is Not a key to a healthy relationship, of any status.  This can be observed most clearly, as Malte stated, in LBT 9 regarding Mo.

However, if you look at when Ali is First introduced to the Gang in LBT 4, before they are aware of her fear of other species, Cera seems quite content, greeting Ali politely.  As it becomes clearer that Ali is afraid, Cera tends to play on Ali's fear by stating that "Threehorns can be VERY scary!"  Cera is known to pick on the weaker characteristics of her friends (such as in LBT2 when she called littlefoot scared when he wouldn't go after the egg-nappers), so this action is not necessarily one of hostility.  Cera just tends to say (and show) what she thinks, and sometimes she is a tad impulsive :P:

If you look at how Cera and Ali's relationship develops, you can see the acceptance in Cera's behavior.  From the moment Cera steps aside to let Ali lie between her and Littlefoot, I think it's safe to say that Cera has lost her negative feelings towards Ali, and there is no sign of jealousy throughout the rest of LBT 4.

The fact that Cera accepts Ali as a good friend, says that she feels that her friends like her for who she is, and she doesn't have to worry about someone else taking her place.

How does this relate to the Cera / Littlefoot crush scenario?
If Cera did have a crush, per se, on Littlefoot, I suspect that she would still show a shimmer of hostility towards Ali, just as you would see in any human relationship.  It's not in Cera's character to keep feelings bottled up.  I can only think of one example where she sort of tried to:
LBT 7, when the Gang is crossing the vine while searching for Ducky.

Littlefoot: "How are you doing, Cera?"
Cera: *shaking, with a worried voice* "Fine...Doing fine..."

Cera is unskilled at hiding her true feelings, she rarely attempts to, and therefore I don't believe she feels that Ali is of Any threat to her relationship with Littlefoot.

Now, this could mean one of two things:

1) Cera and Littlefoot are on Very good terms, and Cera feels that her bond with littlefoot is special, compared to Ali's bond with him, and Cera has no reason to worry.  However, this analysis is very advanced for someone of the age of the Gang.  Believe me, I'm 19 and I have trouble working out these things sometimes, lol :P:

2) Cera genuinely feels friendship and warmth towards Littlefoot, but no more.  It's hard to define "Crush" at this age, especially in the case of LBT, where different species are involved.  In theory, animals of different species do not look at each other as potential mates, or with feeling of physical "attraction."  I will admit the LBT series breaks a number of biological rules, such as, well....the dinosaurs never "relieve" themselves, but that's another topic :p
but anyways, some rules still must apply to some extent.

All I can figure, is that the Gang is too young to even know that they "can't" be physically attracted to another species, so they sort of pretend that they can, and do.  Hence the potential Cera / Littlefoot crush.

However, when it comes to claims that Cera has regarding her Abilities, that's another story completely (LBT 10 - the rock splitting incident in the Great Valley.  Enough said :P:)

Cera will admit when she's Really scared, or Really mad, but when it comes to relatively minor situations, she tends to turn the other cheek towards it, and not admit it to her friends.  Her friends, of course, can see right past the stories that Cera pushes onto them, further showing that Cera is weak at concealing her true feelings by masking or lying about them.
However, when she is truly feeling bothered, she's not afraid to come out and say it:
For example, in LBT 2: When they fall into the Mysterious Beyond after chasing the egg-nappers, Cera is very sad, and says to the gang, "I wanna go home."

In summary, Cera is a fairly easy character to read; you can tell what mood she is in, simply by her tone of voice, and her actions.  As a result, I conclude that she has no negative feelings for Ali by the end of LBT 4.
The Cera/Littlefoot crush is possible, but I do not feel that there is any real basis for it.  It's just sort of a warm feeling that Cera has for Littlefoot, for a number of reasons.  Perhaps "crush" simply needs to be defined more clearly.  I defined "crush" in this writing as, basically, the beginnings of a realtionship that is on a level seperate from a relationship with anyone else; in short, a closer level.
I will say though, that at some level, Cera feels close to Littlefoot, and I'm sure Littlefoot can return this feeling.

I think I'll stop there :P:  MY apologies if this sounds like rambling, or if I have any non-sensical sentences: It's 2:45 in the morning, but I didn't feel like heading off to bed just yet.  I think I will now, though.  Night folks!  Be back soon :D

That is excellent news!  Thank you very much for the info; I'm so relieved that the Series still has a future  :wow
Looks like I'll have some more movies to add to my collection over the next few years :P:

Speaking of the LBT series, I've heard rumours regarding a 20th anniversary theatrical release of the original Land Before Time due out in 2008.  Does anyone know the status of that project?

"A Day in A Simple World" was written for both me and my dear friend at the time; we had sort of created a mini-fantasy home together, and this piece was composed to complement, or show a day, in this fantasy town.  The themes in the music refer to waking up to the sunrise, seeing a bustling marketplace, walking by the local blacksmith's, with everyone hard at work, including the "main character", whom the music follows.  By the end, the market theme comes back, in a "moonlight" style, as the day is winding down, and the final couple of bars are a variation of the "wake up" theme, shown in the first two bars of the piece.  These final bars were simply a wrapping up of the day, and the symbolic start of another day in a simple world.

The idea of the piece was created by both her and myself; I tried to put it to music, but I ended up being somewhat rushed to complete the project, and some parts weren't as strong as I would have liked.  I would have also expanded the piece, making it 5 minutes or more in length.  Due to time constraints, I had to keep it short and sweet.  Ahh, brings back memories of staying up until 5:30 in the morning, finishing the project :lol

By the way, my friend and I have since gone our seperate ways, and she and I haven't spoken since December of 2004.  :cry

If you want to create MIDI files, the program I recommend learning is called Noteworthy Composer
http://www.noteworthysoftware.com

It has, by far, the prettiest, most user-friendly interface I have ever seen for anyone who wants to learn, or is comfortable with, reading standard music notation.  There is a demo of the program on this site.  The company charges around $40 US for the full version, but if you like the demo, the full version is well worth it.  The demo is fully-functional, except you cannot save a project more than 10 times.  However, to get around that, you can simply copy and paste the project into a new file and you get 10 more saves :P:

Anywho, I have the full version, and I love it.  The program is essentially a MIDI-based word-processing program.  Microsoft Word is to documents as Noteworthy is to MIDI.  You can record from a MIDI keyboard, or input notes manually with a mouse, and you can playback all your work whenever you want, from right in the program.  Your work looks, for all intents and purposes, like a musician's sheet music.  As a result, it makes working on the project your main focus, not learning how to get around faults in the program :)

If you prefer a more "professional", more of the non-midi-file side of music, I recommend FL Studio 6.0.

http://www.flstudio.com

This is what I use for All of my non-MIDI file work.  This program is getting more complex, and it requires that you have plugins as well, to gain sounds from.  FL Studio on its' own doesn't supply much in the way of sounds.  You need to add the sounds yourself, or you can simply use MIDI, just like in Noteworthy Composer.

If you would like any assistance with either of these progams, I know them fairly well, especially Noteworthy.  Ask me basically anything about Noteworthy; I've been using it for 8 years and I love it :)
The only downside to Noteworthy, is it is Only for MIDI production; I can't load plugins or anything into it.  However, if this isn't an issue, I'd say go for it, unless you already have a program you are very comfortable with and prefer.  Those are just my thoughts.

In regards to your post, I would indeed be interested in getting to you better as well :)  Perhaps we can figure out some sort of project.

I've included here, a little MIDI file I wrote in April of 2004.  I know the structure is odd, and the music has its share of disasters.  My excuse is that I wrote it in 3 days, but :P: A sample of what you can do with Noteworthy Composer, and a sample of what I have done in the past.  Now just one thing to note: Fermatas (holds/pauses in the music) that I wrote in Noteworthy Do Not export to MIDI files, so there is an odd moment at around 0:35 where it suddenly jumps.  There is supposed to be more of a pause there.  This same problem occurs again at 1:40, 1:45, 2:05, and 3:07, so just ignore those  :P:

It is entitled "A Day in a Simple World".

I have also posted up a mini-remake of "If We Hold On Together" on my webspace, done with a flute solo, using my best audio plugins.  This is Incomplete, but it's just a demonstration of the kinds of software I would "like" to use, but can't.  I can barely produce a file as simple as this without my computer lagging big-time.  I produced the file by ear, referring to the Diana Ross rendition of the song.   I need to turn the bass line up a couple of deciBels, and I'm missing some chord details in the background sounds as of now, but aside from that, I think it's coming along decent.  Enjoy :)
