I might update this as I go along, but "More" (pick whichever artist did it) always seemed sad to me. Another one that seemed sad to me was, oh, gosh, I can't even think of the name, but it's a Christmas song about having a merry Christmas and the war being over (Vietnam?). I think it's "The War is Over" or something.

Hello:
I don't have a real sad song from me, but one of them should be: "Bright Eyes", I still remember the movie version and the moment when it was played.
If we hold on together, was also a sog played in the right moment, at the end of a great movie :yes .
I may have many more, but I may post them when I remember them :^.^:

Valentine's Day - Linkin Park (I can sum this one up in a few lines "...the ground below grew colder/as they put you down inside/but the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing/so now you're gone/and I was wrong/I never knew what it was like/to be alone/on a Valentine's day")

This one always strikes a sad nerve 'cuz I not only lost one of my dogs on this day in 2007, but also found out my grandmother was terminal with cancer when I was fourteen on Valentine's Day, so...it's a sad tune to listen to :cry.

Here are other tearjerkers:

Linkin Park-Little Things Give You Away
Linkin Park-Leave Out All The Rest
Martina McBride-Concrete Angel
Hoobastank-The Reason
Evanescence-My Immortal
Evanescence-Missing
Evanescence-Lithium
Evanescence-Like You
Evanescence-Good Enough
Christina Aguilera-Hurt
Sarah MacLachlan-Adia
Sarah MacLachlan-Ben's Song
Cher-We All Sleep Alone
Avril Lavigne-When You're Gone
Buckcherry-Sorry
Linkin Park-Pushing Me Away
Creed-One Last Breath
Simple Plan-How Could This Happen To Me?
Snow Patrol-Chasing Cars
Rascal Flatts-What Hurts the Most

That's a rap, and that's all I can think of for now.  Yeah, I'm obviously terribly sensitive :slap  .

Here's a tearjerker:

R.E.M-Everybody Hurts

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When youre sure youve had enough of this life, well hang on.
Dont let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. now its time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think youve had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. dont throw your hand. oh, no. dont throw your hand.
If you feel like youre alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If youre on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think youve had too much of this life to hang on.

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. and everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. so, hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. (repeat & fade)
(everybody hurts. you are not alone.)

Here's another one:

Seether feat. Amy Lee(Evanescence)

Broken

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

ëCause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
ëCause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There’s so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

ëCause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
ëCause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel right when you’re gone away

ëCause I’m broken when I’m open
And I don’t feel like I am strong enough
ëCause I’m broken when I’m lonesome
And I don’t feel light when you’re gone away

Absolutely love this song although it's sad B).

There are only a few songs that have ever made me cry, and I'll only list those to shorten it a bit.

Death Cab for Cutie- What Sarah Said
Death Cab for Cutie- I Will Follow You Into the Dark (More because of the context in which I heard it than because it's a particularly sad song. I was hurting kinda bad at the time.)
The Spill Canvas- The Tide

And lastly, I cried very hard the first time I heard 'If We Hold On Together' after reading about Judith Barsi. It was the version sung by the two little girls too, which made it so much worse.

There are probably more, but I can't remember them.

This one always makes me cry, especially 'cuz it hits close to home.  Only, I don't have tattoos or brothers.  Anyhoo, here goes:

"Emotionless" by Good Charlotte

Hey dad,
I'm writing to you.
Not to tell you
that I still hate you.
Just to ask you
how you feel,
and how we fell apart.
How this fell apart.

Are you happy out there
in this great wide world?
Do you think about your sons?
Do you miss your little girl?
When you lay your head down,
how do you sleep at night?
Do you even wonder if we're alright?
But we're alright.
We're alright.

It's been a long hard road without you by my side.
Why weren't you there the nights that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart,
you broke your children for life.
It's not ok, but we're alright.
I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes,
but those are just a long lost memory of mine.
I spent so many years
learning how to survive.
Now I'm writing just to let you know
I'm still alive.

The days I spent
so cold, so hungry
were full of hate.
I was so angry.
The scars run deep inside
this tattooed body.
There's things I'll take
to my grave.
But I'm ok.
I'm ok.

It's been a long hard road without you by my side.
Why weren't you there the nights that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart,
you broke your children for life.
It's not ok, but we're alright.
I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes,
but those are just a long lost memory of mine.
Now I'm writing just to let you know
I'm still alive.
And I'm still alive.

Sometimes I forget.
Yeah, and this time
I'll admit that I miss you.
Said I miss you.

And sometimes I forget.
This time, I'll admit
that I miss you.
I miss you.
Hey, Dad.

Forever Young by Alphaville

At my camp, during this song at the last dance, every camper who won't be returning next year breaks into tears. It is an unavoidable thing, and this song emphasizes the fact that we won't be coming back. I cried during this song, and I don't cry. EVER.

"Children of Kosovo" by Kelly Family

I believe someones out there
whos gonna help me give
a nameless
child loving care
I believe you are out there
youre gonna help me give the
children loving care

So much hate has turned
to vengeance
Al the laughter has turned
to crying
while the mothers lose
their children
from the war

I am hungry and Im cold and
I have no one to hold for
my mother and my father are
dead and gone
whrere do I belong

CHORUS

This children of Kosovo
are crying for a helping hand
the children of Kosovo
are dreamning of a peaceful land

They have beaten my
older brother
they have torn away my sister
I`m afraid I want revenge
Is there no other way

Lets hold our hands tightly together
and think as one forever
You and I can make a
change for a better world
no more war

CHORUS

This one makes me tearful every time I listen to it.

Hate Me by Blue October

I have to block out thoughts of you, so I don't lose my head.
They crawl in like a cockroach leaving babies in my bed.
Dropping little reels of tape, to remind me that I'm alone.
Playing movies in my head that make a porno feel like home.
There's a burning in my pride, and a nervous bleeding in my brain.
An ounce of peace is all I want for you, will you never call again?
And will you never say that you love me, just to put it in my face?
And will you never try to reach me, it is I that wanted space

Hate me today.
Hate me tomorrow.
Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you.
Hate me in ways, yeah ways hard to swallow.
Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you.

I'm sober now for 3 whole months, it's one accomplishment that you helped me with.
The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing I won't touch again.
In a sick way I want to thank you for holding my head up late at night.
While I was busy waging wars on myself, you were trying to stop the fight.
You never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate.
You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take.
So I'll drive so f***ing far away that I'll never cross your mind.
And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind.

Hate me today.
Hate me tomorrow.
Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you.
Hate me in ways, yeah ways hard to swallow.
Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you.

And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave.
Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I had made.
And like a baby boy I never was a man.
'Till I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand.
And then I fell down yelling, "Make it go away," just make a smile.
Come back and shine just like it used to be.
And then she whispered, "How can you do this to me?"

Hate me today.
Hate me tomorrow.
Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you.
Hate me in ways, yeah ways hard to swallow.
Hate me so you can finally see whats good for you.
For You.

The following song is so sad but awesome at the same time.

"Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls

And I'd give up forever to touch you,
cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
and I don't want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment.
And all I can breathe is your life.
Cause sooner or later it's over.
I just don't want to miss you tonight.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand!
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am!

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming,
or the moment of truth in your lies.
When everything seems like the movies,
yeah you bleed just to know you're alive!

And I don't want the world to see me,
cause I don't think that they'd understand!
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am!

I don't want the world to see me
cause I don't think that they'd understand!
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am!

I just want you to know who I am!
I just want you to know who I am!
I just want you to know who I am!
I just want you to know who I am!

The chorus means a lot to me especially, 'cuz I've always been misunderstood.

Post by: The Friendly Sharptooth on May 31, 2009, 12:22:17 AM
This may not seem like a sad song to many people, but it is to me for personal reasons. My father is usually very busy. He is a full time worker, and owns a medical sales company calls Midwest Med Specialities. He takes the majority of sales calls himself, despire running the business. He even connected the house phone to the work line to make orders for people who have special siutations and need medical products right away, so he is basically on duty even when his business is closed. He plays tennis a lot, something I cannot do due to my visual inconvinience, and he likes driving to a lot of towns, something I do not do because of severe motion sickness.

When he is at home, he likes to relax because he has a lot of stress from my mother, because she is not well. That combined with my brothers' scholastic activities, my father and I have very, very little time to do much of anything together, although I know it can't be helped. So I can emphasize with this song so well because of its theme: a son growing up who doesn't have much access to quality time with his father. Don't get him wrong; he tries to do things when he can, but he can rarely.

Cats in the Cradle
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I think I've only cried to one song. That would be "You'll Never Walk Alone", featured in the musical Carousel. The song itself is not too depressing, but it is sung right after the main character kills himself, and the wife is sobbing. It is such a sentimental moment :cry2  :x    :bang

This one's mournful and beautiful at the same time.

"Breathe No More" by Evanescence

I've been looking in the mirror for so long
that I've come to believe my soul's on the other side.
Oh the little pieces falling, shatter.
Shards of me,
too sharp to put back together.
Too small to matter,
but big enough to cut me into so many little pieces
if I try to touch her.
And I bleed,
I bleed.
And I breathe,
I breathe no more.

Take a breath and I try to draw from my spirit's well.
Yet again you refuse to drink like a stubborn child.
Lie to me,
convince me that I've been sick forever.
And all of this
will make sense when I get better.
I know the difference
between myself and my reflection.
I just can't help but to wonder,
which of us do you love?
So I bleed,
I bleed.
And I breathe,
I breathe now...
Bleed,
I bleed.
And I breathe,
I breathe,
I breathe-
I breathe no more.

I cannot say anything about "saddest" (I am really not one to go for superlatives thereby carelessly downgrading everything that I did not designate superlative) but one really sad song which I think many of us should take in for the meaning that it has is Streets of London (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctb-SrwL884).

Yet it does remind us of what we have and puts our concerns into dimension. I do think there is a difference between the suffering of homeless people and our daily concerns.

Well you know my thoughts and feelings regarding the Streets of London Malte, however I'll post up here too.  This is one of the saddest songs I've heard.  It reinforces my realisation of what I have and that I should be grateful after all, I have a family, a home and a warm place to sleep at night.  Yet, I don't require the song to come to the realisation as there are homeless people around in Bern.  I'll admit that I give some who have been there for about five years some money and i feel great and comfortable for doing that because it's a good turn.  One of which I think many people should do.  Whilst I'm not going to pretend that I imagine what it's like to be homeless, I know that if it happened to me I'd like some support and understanding.  For people to care and not see me as scorn.

What I suppose I'm trying to say, is that no matter how hard your own life is there is always going to be someone who's life is much harder who has little or nothing to live off on.  Is it their choice?  Most often it is not and they do need some sort of support.:)

Again thanks for the link to the song Malte.

Courage-Superchick

I told another lie today
And I got through this day
No one saw through my games
I know the right words to say
Like "I don't feel well"
"I ate before I came"

Then someone tells me how good I look
and for a moment
For a moment I am happy
But when I'm alone
No one hears me cry

I need you to know
I'm not through the night
Some days I'm still fighting to walk towards the light
I need you to know
That we'll be okay
Together we can make it through another day

I don't know the first time I felt unbeautiful
The day I chose not to eat
What I do know is how I changed my life forever
I know I should know better
There are days when I'm okay
And for a moment
For a moment I find hope
But there are days when I'm not okay
And I need your help
So I'm letting go

I need you to know
I'm not through the night
Some days I'm still fighting to walk towards the light
I need you to know
That we'll be okay
Together we can make it through another day

You should know you're not on your own
These secrets are walls that keep us alone
I don't know when but I know now
Together we'll make it through somehow
Together we'll make it through somehow

I need you to know
I'm not through the night
Some days I'm still fighting to walk towards the light
I need you to know
That we'll be okay
Together we can make it through another day

Well I know there was one song last year that made me tear a little bit not into full blown tears and crying, I can't rember what it was called but I know that the people I was with, since I was at a Camp they said that this Salior was out in the sea and when his Ship was sinking he prayed to God to let him live, and the Salior wrote a song about it. That's at least what i think they said.

The following makes me sad 'cuz it reminds me of how one feels when someone close to him or her has died.

"Against All Odds" by Phil Collins

How can I just let you walk away,
just let you leave without a trace?
When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh.
You're the only one who really knew me at all.

How can you just walk away from me,
when all I can do is watch you leave?
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain,
and even shared the tears.
You're the only one who really knew me at all.

So take a look at me now!
There's just an empty space.
There's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face.
Take a look at me now!
There's just an empty space,
and you coming back to me is against all odds and that's what I've got to face.

I wish I could just make you turn around,
turn around and see me cry.
There's so much I need to say to you,
so many reasons why you're the only one who really knew me at all.

So take a look at me now!
There's just an empty space.
There's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face.
Now, take a look at me now!
Cos there's just an empty space,
but to wait for you,
well that's all I can do and that's what I've got to face.

Take a good look at me now!
Cos I'll still be standing here,
and you coming back to me is against all odds.
It's the chance I've got to take, oh, oho.

Take a look at me now.

"Hurt". Originally by Nine Inch Nails, but Johnny Cash's cover is by far a better rendition, and has more emotion in it. The lyrics really make you think as well...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s)
---
I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

I'll post the lyrics to Concrete angel because nobody else has done it.

Concrete Angel by Martina McBride

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with the linin and lace oh...

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born.

Through the wind, and the rain, she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved...
Concrete Angel.

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear but they turn out the light
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it will be too late.

Through the wind, and the rain, she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved...
Concrete Angel.

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot.

Through the wind, and the rain, she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams giver her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved...
Concrete Angel.

Okay, I was seriously crying while typing this. This song is so sad. :cry

Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne

I couldn't tell you, why she felt that way
She felt it everyday
I couldn't help her, I just watched her make
The same mistakes again.

What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems
Don't know where she belongs
Where she belongs...

She wants to go home, but nobody's home
It's where she lies, broken inside
There's no place to go, no place to go
To dry her eyes, broken inside.

Open your eyes, and look outside
Find the reasons why
You've been rejected, and now you can't find
What you've left behind.

Be strong, be strong now
Too many, too many problems
Don't know where she belongs
Where she belongs...

She wants to go home, but nobody's home
It's where she lies, broken inside
There's no place to go, no place to go
To dry her eyes, broken inside.

Her feelings she hides
Her dreams she can't find
She's losing her mind
She's falling behind

She can't find her place
She's losing her faith
She's falling from grace
She's all over the place!

Yeah...

She wants to go home, but nobody's home
It's where she lies, broken inside
There's no place to go, no place to go
To dry her eyes, broken inside.

She's lost inside, lost inside

Oh oh...

She's lost inside, lost inside

Oh oh...

Oh...

Well, like alot of people say, Bestest Friends. It was the first thing in LBT to make me cry since the original, though several moments in the series got close.

Father by Manowar- Basically a Manowar power ballad, and so well done. Quiet a times, dramatic at times, with a little guita solo in the middle.

The Bosphorous Freezes Over by Turisas- Definitely the most dramatic and atmospheric song they have ever done (being a symphonic-viking-folk-metal band, that's not really saying much), but for some reason, listening to it the first time, I teared up a little, because it was basically the ending song on the album, basically ending the loose story. I think it's just the spoken bit:

YOU SEE, IT'S NOT WHAT YOU TAKE WITH YOU. IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND.
AND THERE, CARVEN ON THE SIDE OF A LION, THE STORY FOUND ITS END."

Then followed by the strange Finnish choral ending. It's just amazing the first time I hear it.

For anyone who has a less-than-amiable relationship with their father/father figures
"Perfect" by Simple Plan

"Perfect"

Hey dad look at me
Think back and talk to me
Did I grow up according to plan?
And do you think I'm wasting my time doing things I wanna do?
But it hurts when you disapprove all along

And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I'm never gonna be good enough for you
I can't pretend that
I'm alright
And you can't change me

'Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect
Now it's just too late and
We can't go back
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect

I try not to think
About the pain I feel inside
Did you know you used to be my hero?
All the days you spent with me
Now seem so far away
And it feels like you don't care anymore

And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I'm never gonna be good enough for you
I can't stand another fight
And nothing's alright

'Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect
Now it's just too late and
We can't go back
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect

Nothing's gonna change the things that you said
Nothing's gonna make this right again
Please don't turn your back
I can't believe it's hard
Just to talk to you
But you don't understand

'Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect
Now it's just too late and
We can't go back
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect

'Cuz we lost it all
Nothing lasts forever
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect
Now it's just too late and
We can't go back
I'm sorry
I can't be perfect

Crown of Love - Arcade Fire
Dustland Fairytale - Killers
Titanium - David Guetta
One by One - Enya... literally, I was SOBBING my eyes out during this song. Beautiful and painful, and reminded me of certain family issues :p
Also, If You Could See me Now - the Script :(

Enya-
Here am I, yet another goodbye
He says, Adios says, Adios says, Adios goodbyw.
And do you know why she won't break down and cry?
She says Adios says, Adios says, Adios, goodbye

Script -
It was February fourteen, Valentine's Day

The roses came, but they took you away

Tattooed on my arm is a charm to disarm all the harm

Gotta keep myself calm but the truth is you're gone

And I'll never get to show you these songs

Dad, you should see the tours that I'm on,

I see you standing there next to Mom

Always singing along, yeah arm in arm

And there are days when I'm losing my faith

Because the man wasn't good he was great

He'd say music was the home for your pain

And explain, I was young, he would say

"Take that rage, put it on a page

Take the page to the stage

Blow the roof off the place"

I'm tryna make you proud

Do everything you did

I hope you're up there with God

Saying that's my kid

Hmm...let me see...

Sand and Water by Beth Nielsen Chapman (the whole album) has some pretty sad songs on it...and it only becomes worse when you find out her husband was dying of cancer when she wrote it.

Come To My Garden from the Secret Garden musical...the tune is uplifting, but half the song is the ghost of a mother singing to her kid.

Aubrey by Bread.

For Good from Wicked.

Someone already said "I'll Cover You (Reprise)" from Rent, didn't they?

Probably none of you will have heard of these, but "Faust", "Beauty and the Beast (Phantom's Theme)", and "Old Souls" from Phantom of the Paradise - basically Phantom of the Opera meets Faust in the 70s.

Wait, I've got it; the Casper soundtrack (written by JAMES HORNER). Several of the instrumental tracks on it are just astounding; beautiful, yet with a sad undertone in places, such as "The Lighthouse - Casper and Kat", "Fond Memories" and "The Uncles Swing/End Credits" (although that one's sort of uplifting at the same time).

And of course, Whispering Winds from the Original Land Before Time soundtrack. Heck, lots of the music in that pretty sad yet beautiful at the same time.

"Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child"

Any version of this song really. I would have not looked it up if it wasn't for Songza, and it's one of my favorite songs from Americana. Just knowing where it came from and why it was written just evokes a lot in me.

"551"- Dessa

Dessa was the lead vocal in the band "Doomtree" which wrote within the East Coast rap genre, but added their own underground flair. The song itself has powerful lyrics and a slow tempo, but I love the use of strings in it.

My top sad songs would be the original Kate Bush version of 'This Woman's Work' (Which usually does top the sad songs list from people in the UK, because that song has become well-known here from an advert for a child abuse charity) and 'Hello' by Evanescence, although you could include a lot of their songs.

Special mention also goes to 'Bullet' by Hollywood Undead, which somehow manages to be one of the saddest and one of the happiest songs of all time. You could have a good upbeat dance to it if you weren't paying attention to the lyrics.

I don't know if it necessarily is the saddest song that I have ever heard, but "Dolphin's Heart" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YDPKQ-LAoQ) by Luca Turilli is certainly on my list.  This song tells the tale of a dolphin who saves a young boy from drowning in the sea in Italy, but later the dolphin is found dead, having been killed by a fisherman.

One of my favorite bands, Five Finger Death Punch, makes some real bada** music, but some of their songs are so sad to me that they can make me cry.  Their songs "M.I.N.E. (End This Way)", "Cold", "The Wrong Side of Heaven", "Remember Everything", and "Far From Home" can get me going.  To me, the fact that a band which seems so rough around the edges is also willing to show their emotional side, says a lot about them.  I love it when men are not afraid to show their emotional side.  Our society has taught them wrong in that real men don't get emotional, which is BS as far as I'm concerned.  Being emotional simply means that you're human.

U2's "With Or Without You" makes me emotional as well.

My Heart Will Go from Titanic

A Thousand Years by Christina Ricci gets me pretty emotional/sad but that's just me relating it  to a friend I am currently waiting to return after 4 years  and will probably keep waiting not knowing how long or if she'll ever return.

"Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride.  Tell me this doesn't make you think of Judith Barsi.

"Independence Day", another pretty powerful one by Martina McBride about domestic abuse.  The music video make it even worse.

I've heard an urban legend that implies that song is indeed about Judith Barsi.  Not that urban legends are entirely reliable sources of information, but who knows besides McBride herself?

"Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri is heartwrenching.  I know it's about her divorce from her addict ex-husband (she got sober after she left him), but I think any of us can say we know someone with a heart of stone who loves to tear others down.  I can't listen to this song unless I'm feeling really sad...otherwise, it'll make me that way.

"Save Our Last Goodbye" by Disturbed is about losing a loved one.  I've had a lot of friends lose loved ones within the last two weeks, which makes this track even more intense to listen to.

"Digging My Own Grave" by Five Finger Death Punch is also sad.  It's about having to live with the regret of making difficult decisions.  Since most of their music is aimed at the military audience, their focus is probably on how to readjust to civilian life, but they also make most of their songs written so that anybody can relate to them.

We put our hearts at stake (Zemr”n e lam” peng)

The clock ticks like a heart
The clock runs crazy, it has no hands
You stole the time from my life
The coldness of your voice fell on my heart
Covering the last shelter of love
Ha… ha…
And the hands of time stop there

Day after day, we
Beat after beat, we looked in vain
For the perfect clock which a heart can never be

Night after night, we
Beat after beat, we grew apart
But no, we couldn’t because we both put our hearts at stake
Ah…

The clock ticks like a heart
The clock runs crazy, it has no hands
You stole the time from my life
(The coldness of your voice) fell on my heart
Covering the last shelter of love

Ha… ha…
And the hands of time stop there

Day after day, we
Beat after beat, we looked in vain
For the perfect clock which a heart can never be

Night after night, we
Beat after beat, we grew apart
But no, we couldn’t because we both put our hearts at stake

The saddest song I’ve ever heard is probably “Where Do I Fit In The Picture?” by Clay Walker. It’s probably one of the most heart wrenching heartbreak songs I’ve ever heard.

I've got a couple...

First up is this one. It's one I frequently listen to if I need a good cry. :cry

Drivers' License - Olivia Rodrigo

I got my driver's license last week
Just like we always talked about
'Cause you were so excited for me
To finally drive up to your house
But today I drove through the suburbs
Crying 'cause you weren't around

And you're probably with that blonde girl
Who always made me doubt
She's so much older than me
She's everything I'm insecure about
Yeah, today I drove through the suburbs
'Cause how could I ever love someone else?

And I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one
And I just can't imagine how you could be so okay now that I'm gone
Guess you didn't mean what you wrote in that song about me
'Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

And all my friends are tired
Of hearing how much I miss you, but
I kinda feel sorry for them
'Cause they'll never know you the way that I do, yeah
Today I drove through the suburbs
And pictured I was driving home to you

And I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one, oh
And I just can't imagine how you could be so okay, now that I'm gone
I guess you didn't mean what you wrote in that song about me
'Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

Red lights, stop signs
I still see your face in the white cars, front yards
Can't drive past the places we used to go to
'Cause I still [censored] love you, babe (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
Sidewalks we crossed
I still hear your voice in the traffic, we're laughing
Over all the noise
God, I'm so blue, know we're through
But I still [censored] love you, babe (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one
And I just can't imagine how you could be so okay, now that I'm gone
'Cause you didn't mean what you wrote in that song about me
'Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street
Yeah, you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

And here's one I loved as a kid. Looks completely ridiculous at first glance...but under the surface, it hits HARD.

Between Fairytales and Happy Endings - Prince Whateverer

I used to be the one stuck on the sidelines
But lately things have started to change
I would've never thought that being the way I am
Could make everything end up this way

This is never what I would've expected
There's nothing wrong but they still want me corrected
Why can't you just let me do what I do?
I'm not hurting anyone, so why are you?
Why are you?

How could you try and change who I've always been?
What did I do wrong? I never wanted any of this
I'm sorry if I ever offended any of you
But I am who I am, there's not much more that I can do
A wise man once said that friendship was magic
The way I see it, it's been nothing but tragic
I tried my best and it wasn't quite there
A fairytale, but no happy ending for this mare

I just don't know what went wrong
They don't love me anymore so, so long
Now I'm left out on my own, wish there was somewhere for me to call home

Is it not enough that I'm in the background?
You wanna drop me because of how my voice sounds?
Well, I apologise if I ever made you sad
But I will not be sorry for being who I am
This is who I am

How could you try and change who I've always been?
What did I do wrong? I never wanted any of this
I'm sorry if I ever offended any of you
But I am who I am
There's not much more that I can do
A wise man once said that friendship was magic
The way I see it, it's been nothing but tragic
I tried my best and it wasn't quite there
A fairytale but no happy ending for this mare

How could you try and change who I've always been?
What did I do wrong? I never wanted any of this!
I'm sorry if I ever offended any of you
But I am who I am
There's not much more that I can do
A wise man once said that friendship was magic!
The way I see it, it's been nothing but tragic
I tried my best and it wasn't quite there!
So will there ever be a happy ending for this mare?

I've been dipping into sad music again lately after the recent Teletoon news...apparently I love to emotionally torture myself. :Chomp Here's an underrated one.

All I Want - Kodaline

All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door
'Cause if I could see your face once more
I could die a happy man I'm sure

When you said your last goodbye
I died a little bit inside
I lay in tears in bed all night
Alone without you by my side

But if you loved me
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
And all I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody
Like yoooooooou
Oooooh
Yoooooooou
Like yoooooooou

So you brought out the best of me
A part of me I've never seen
You took my soul and wiped it clean
Our love was made for movie screens

But if you loved me
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
And all I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody...

Oh! Oh!
Ohhhhh!
Oh! Oh!
Ohhhhh!

If you loved me
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
And all I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody
Like yoooooou...
