Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: Bruton the Iguanodon on December 18, 2011, 04:03:27 PM
AS a kid I didn't think too many parts of LBT were scary. Sure, when I saw movie 1 after seeing a bunch of sequels, it was a little startling, but not too scary, and movie 5's leaf gobblers were dfinitely creepy, and I think i was a little scared of the song "Whoo needs you" in 4. But the part that really unnerved me was in 6.

43:51-44:38 is so sad...maybe it's because the same music that played when Littlefoot's mom died is playing, and Ducky's long speech about bad luck just makes it even sadder, or something!

And then 44:39-44:54 BOOM! :wow It's like you just finished listening to a CD, and the last track was something really beuatiful and tranquil, and then suddenly there's a hidden track that just blasts out loud music (Weird Al's "Bite me" comes to mind.)  The sheer brightness of it all is enough to creep you out, and the suddeness of it is startling, and Thomas Dekker's scream is more frightening then any scream Littlefoot ever made in movie 1. Or 2. Or any film before now. It's sudden, abrupt things that scare me, and espicially after extensive sad, tranquil, sweet moments that really relax you, like the one I just showed here.

The scene before is even sadder on watching it again with the knowledge that this is the last time we're ever going to see
Code:  on
Ducky and Spike before
Code:  on
they get stung again and again by big nasty wasps
. I feel so sorry for them, and espicially that it had to happen in this film...the one with "Dinah" and "Dana". (Barf)  :x  Why couldn't they injure those awful little babies? I don't care about them!

Anyways, it's moments that are sudden like this after really  beautiful ones that scare me. Here's a song I think would work well with the scene before the screaming nightmare(in case you didn't know I sometimes mute the movies and put in random pop songs that sort of fit the mood):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru1bf6au3MA&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru1bf6au3MA&feature=related)

It sort of has a sad, end of the day, walking away feel to it. Ironically, it's the last track on the album and has a weird, creepy old song afterwards.

Thankfully, we're shortly after treated to the real fun "Bad Luck"---a tremendous relief after the rather bad "Lone Dinosaur" and the rotten "Friends for dinner" of the last film. It's probably the funnest song LBT has ever given us. I doubt we'll get a song as fun as this again ("Adventuring" and"Flip Flap and Fly" are weak by comparision. And weak on their own.)

I would recommend that you remove the link to the full LBT movie and either put up short clips instead or just keep the time frame so people can look at their own copies of the movie and see for themselves. Sharing full LBT movies is prohibited on this board.

From the board rules:

Quote
1. - Sharing and requesting copies of both the original LBT film and its direct-to-video sequels is strictly prohibited on the Gang of Five.

How do I put up short clips?

By the way, I read what you said in the inbox about Friendly Sharptooth having an e-mail for me! So he really does care!    I hope I wasn't too hard on him or anything, I just wanted to get his attention, but it looks like he does have a response! That's great! When are you gonna upload it?

(Anyways, once I do, we should stay on topic.  :))

Anyways, u still around?

I was hoping to get a review to this topic, not a warning about uploading movies. I would just upload the minute of footage I want but I'm not sure how to do so.

I can thinkof two scary moments now: sharptooth's frantic bitting after Littlefoot in the thorns, and Ducky falling into Dil's mouth.

Is there some way I can post the clip of the scene I'm talking bout?

Yes. Just load the movie into a video editor, cut out everything except the scene, save it as a movie file, and upload it somewhere.

Video Pad Video Editor. If that's okay, what do I do now? How do I load the movie into it?

I don't use that video editor.

Here's a link to videos on Youtube which should be helpful:

Hello...anybody out there?
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: LBTLover1 on January 10, 2012, 07:37:46 PM
Well...I was actually much older when those movies came out, Bruton, so not really.  The nightmare, however, gave me some pleasency when Cera got scared, because she is always saying she is soo tough and all.  Just wathcing her be scared is amusing.

Just something short I had to say...not really on topic however.

That's not what I actually made the topic about saying what scared me...just read my first post (and check your copy of 6, if you want) to find out.

Only things I can really remember being scary are from 1st movie... sharptooth surprising ducky in the final battle, sharptooth chasing the gang to the little hole in the cliff, parts from the first sharptooth encounter, and most notably I have a memory stuck deep of being very startled by this exact scene:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...dDQkwV8Q#t=255s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SpxdDQkwV8Q#t=255s)

Another startling memory is from sharptooth sniffing air somewhere far in the distance (somehow connected to around the scene when they sleep the first night?) and someone saying "it can't smell us from all the way here" or something. Could be why there are trims around that scene, but I can't really pinpoint how and where this would exactly be connected in the regular cut.

Or actually! Could be when Cera wakes up to the sound of sharptooth, and i'm mixing it up with littlefoot saying there is no sharptooth which is in the regular cut scene when Cera scares others.

Only in specific versions...I believe the one with the cuts made in it.

Not anymore...They had the version released in like 1995 (not sure so don't yell at me if this is wrong.)  I have one on Laserdisc with the cuts in it.

You have the uncut version?! By, "with the cuts in it" do you mean, "with the parts that were cut in it"?
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: jansenov on January 11, 2012, 09:12:23 PM
The Laserdisc only has screenshots from cut scenes, not whole cut scenes. Look here (http://www.gangoffive.net/index.php?topic=8011.0) to see the screeshots.

Post by: Bruton the Iguanodon on January 11, 2012, 09:27:27 PM
Is there any recording of the film anyone has that has the cut scenes?
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: LBTLover1 on January 11, 2012, 09:37:42 PM
Remember, they deleted the cut scenes from the movie itself so they only have the snapshots on laserdisc.

Post by: Bruton the Iguanodon on January 11, 2012, 11:37:25 PM
But my question is, do the scenes still exist somewhere? And if they do, will we ever get them? I want them sooooooooooooooo badly!!!  :anger
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: LBTLover1 on January 11, 2012, 11:47:34 PM
No, sorry there is a forum though that says about the missing cut scenes.

It's right here (http://gangoffive.net/index.php?showtopic=1102).
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: Bruton the Iguanodon on January 11, 2012, 11:50:29 PM
So...it's for sure that we'll never see the dleted scenes?  :cry
Title: What I thought was scary as a kid!
Post by: LBTLover1 on January 11, 2012, 11:57:28 PM
Remember, all we have are the snapshots...that kinda counts doesn't it?  I have the snapshots on the laserdisc, but we will never see the scenes as a whole.  The only exception is on the trailer found here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2RdfoDImi8&feature=channel_video_title).  There are (i think) two outcuts, but not sure.

:cry The original version sounded so good... :cry If we had the original it would probably be my favorite of the LBT films!!! What's the use of these screenshots if we can't see the scenes they're from? I'd particularly like to see all those mysterious scenes of the gang in peril, the closeup of them sleeping together:angel  the whole gang seeing Petrie's alright, and then all heading to the Great Valley, which Littlefoot discovered earlier on. And just about everything else, right down to Littlefoot's ending line: "Now we'll  always be together!" Why can't we? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????!!!!!!  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry  :cry

Unfortutnatley, we don't know if the archives are still here.  The only source we have that they could still possibly be in existence is Malte's statment in the post I showed you earlier.  Other than that...no original outcuts.

Only, ten minutes longer. I found that through a link on wikipedia, it said that ten minutes of scenes were cut from the film. But they were FAR to violent for kids under 13. It was supposed to be PG-13 for Violence with a brief scene of gore.

If you're curious.  The original scene did have that in (I'll have to refer back to the screen shots).  This is probably why they scrapped the cuts because of this unneccesity violence in the movie.

I completely forgot about that...

Oh yeah, yes you did it very nicely.  I agree how those scenes could generate fear inside someone. (well kind of) (they didn't strike me as odd, but it's different for everybody.)

Can't really remember too many scary moments from the LBT time when I was a kid, but I do know that Ozzy threatening Littlefoot and the others frightened my little cousin.

Hmm... well just the music in itself throughout the movies amplified some of the 'scary ' scenes making them even more emotional and empowering.

But anyway, on Land Before Time II, I was scared and anticipating when I saw them jump across the ledges to get away, and then when the gang landed in the mysterious beyond, that was utter creepy (well I was 5 xD).

Hmm... moving on, the first time I saw the velociraptors on LBT III (or utah raptors?) was a little 'creepy' them trying to all escape in the bone infested land, but not too much.

I do agree, the song on the fourth one was a little scary at first (mostly because of all the words). The mists were a little frightening when I first heard of them from that old longneck and then thinking about the music that plays in the mysterious beyond.

The fifth movie had the running scene-- that was a really strong image the way the colors changed and all. I wouldn't say I was more as scared than hoping they escape and live (even though they would but still!). You could also say the desolation of the desert (never before seen in LBT series besides the first), the mysterious missing carnivore's footprint, and the locusts.

Nothing on the sixth one scared me, though yeah the bee stings were abnormal.

The seventh one had THE MOST SCARY SCENE of all the Land Before Time movies! Seriously! Remember when they were describing what pterano had did? I was so scared man. First the dinosaurs already go into a somewhat creepy place that seems like paradise, but then it escalades into the most gruesome and horrifying things you'll ever see with dinosaurs. They have nowhere to go, and all die, including one SCRAPING HER CLAWS on the rock to not fall and then falling down a huge hole (with of course waterfalls to make it even more creepy because it's so deep). Yeah...

Starting from the eighth one, I was not only older, but they were a little more lighthearted :). Maybe when Ducky was first going into the cold beyond, it gave you creepy thoughts, but from then on, the rest of the movies (and the eighth) were not  scary and creepy as the the first ones :) (I was also older. I watched the 10th one when I was 12! [i'm 17 now])

When i saw the first film, what scared me was those psycho domeheads, and that black monster which was only Littlefoot,Spike,Petrie, and Ducky.

In the second, the misteryous beyond was scarry.A LOT of big bones, that creepy long snakelike creature swiming in that tarpool, the barren sight, and everything was dark becose of the night.Seriously everything there just makes you want to go away as fast as possible.
