Title: Breaking Dawn?!!
Post by: Bruton the Iguanodon on January 08, 2012, 06:49:02 PM
Why is it when Sharptooth starts to chase Cera and Littlefoot it's dawn...

and throughout the whole fight and the earthquake its dawn.

But then when Littlefoot is looking for his mom it's night again...

Did a whole day pass? :crazy

Or did night turn to day for 10 minutes or so?!!  :wow

I don't know what's going on with this...I initially assumed it was a Grosvner-like effect but...does anyone have any ideas?!

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I know that there was quite a lot of footage cut from the film, maybe there was some which showed some of what happened in between?

I guess Littlefoot could have been hiding all that time, and it took him a while to find the courage to come out. I know I wouldn't feel much like moving if I'd come so close to being eaten by the Sharptooth  :lol

Well, it was also raining...hard.
That could have made it darker.

If you notice, it does get dark after the earthquake happens and you see Cera calling out to her family. It goes from dawn to dark right there; you can see the change. So it's not really sudden in the next shot when it's night. A transition did take place in the previous shot with the newly divided land.

Well, now we know where Grosvner got his weird effects of the sky changing color in 5-7 and 10...but at least those all took place during the day. This is weird!  :wow

It might have been for dramatic effect, to show passage of time or something. Either that or it got cloudy overhead.

I never noticed any of that before.  I may try to remember to remember to look for that next time.    Some of it may have been to show passage of time, and or maybe with some scenes cut it may make the passage of time look odd now.

You should remember, Bruton, that movies are also works of art. And art can contain things that do not happen in reality. Yes, day changed quickly into night in that scene you mention. Why is that unusual? A novel can jump over large periods of time, a theatrical play can jump over large periods of time, but a movie can't? Why? If novels and poems can describe worlds so outlandish that is beyond modern CGI technology to make a visual presentation of them, why can't a movie use an innocent technique such as a quick day-night transition to move the plot forward? Why does this bother you, and myriads of other unrealistic things in LBT don't?

Like what don't? Those tinysaureses of 11 bother the crap out of me, way more then this. Ditto 4 the yellowbellies. This is mild compared to that. I'm just confused about it.

You know what bothers me the most about the tinysauruses?

Something's wrong with their noses, isn't it?  :confused

I first noticed this on the cover. I had hoped it was just a mistake on the cover, but I was wrong. They have two noses throughout the entire movie. And it creeps me out.

I guess the animators didn't notice.  Or a second set went over, missed the first set of nostrils and added in the other set.

@DarkHououmon when did you first notice this?  I thought that was how they actually looked.  Since i'm not the dinosaur expert, I would think that whatever they had, it was probably what it looked like (with exception of course)

When I first saw the cover. I mentioned that in my earlier post.

Ever been in a really nasty thunderstorm in the early morning?  The clouds, usually nimbus or cumulonimbus clouds, are almost pitch-black and very dense, even making 9 AM look like 10 PM .  Or, it could've simply been the passage of time.  Who knows how long it took Littlefoot to find his mother?  I think it is either of those two: a really nasty storm or a passage of time, or possibly both.

A sudden change of weather caused by climatic cataclysm. Or could it be that a gigantic cloud of dust raised by the earthquake formed a cloud that blocked out the sunlight? Nah, that's very unlikely. :)

Yeah, animators really screwed up this time. :slap

One thing I noticed is right when Littlefoot's mother saves the two of them, Cera runs off to her family but Littlefoot is still with his mother. We never actually see the two of them get separated. Now we do see Littlefoot's grandparents getting separated when the ground starts to rise and we do see Cera almost falling when the ground caves in, but nowhere do we see the moment where Littlefoot and his mother are split from each other. It seemed weird to me that he was with her when she saved him, but then five minutes later he had lost her.

Now this could be explained a number of ways. Littlefoot could have run ahead of his mother without realizing it since she was badly injured. She may have told him to go hide somewhere while she tried to find his grandparents. Whatever the reason, we never actually see it happen.
