I'm surprised no one has created a topic about this yet, but has anyone else tried waterfox? It's the "unofficial" 64 bit version of Firefox. I've been using it for a while now and I must say, I like it. For someone that keeps dozens of internet windows and hundreds of taps open at one time, a 64 bit browser is absolutely essential. At first I found it to be a terribly unstable browser, but after living with it for a few days it began to mellow out. So, has anyone else tried it?

I don't have a 64bit computer, but I'd definitely give it a try if I did.
-
Wow I've never heard of this, I've actually been wondering why the heck firefox never had a 64-bit variant of their browser. This is really cool, I'll most likely be switching to this permanently if I don't notice any real problems with it. And the icon is just epic :p

I never heard of it. I think I'll download it and give it a try. I wondered why Firefox never put out a 64 bit version of their browser.
-
May give it a try if I can make a portable version of it. :) Supposedly it can be done if you copy certain things into a portable Firefox directory.

Tried to install it and it doesn't work. I guess the Beta version isn't compatible with windows 7 64 bit version. I uninstalled it. Maybe Chrome will come out with a 64 bit version, unless it already is 64 bit, that will work in windows 7 64 bit.
-
I don't think so. I installed it on my computer and it works just fine. I use Windows 7 64-bit version.

I tried it and it doesn't work. So if it is compatible with windows 7 64 bit it's likely my stupidity. Luckily for me chrome and firefox is programmed so even idiots like me can install it, unlike waterfox. I'll wait a year or maybe several and maybe they'll eventually program a version that even an idiot like I can install. Till then I'll have to stick with chrome.

I don't know why Waterfox won't work for you. Does it give any kind of error message or will it just not load up at all?
-
Kor, I now have two computers with Windows 7 x64 that both have Waterfox installed and they work flawlessly. Do you have Visual C++ 2010 installed on your computer? Waterfox won't work without it. If not, you can download it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/deta...bf-9350143d5867 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=bd512d9e-43c8-4655-81bf-9350143d5867)
If you don't know if you have it or not, you probably don't. Just download it anyway. It doesn't hurt to install it twice.

Thanks. I assume I don't have c++ installed since I'm not a programmer.
-
Well technically this isn't really the full Visual C++ but rather a runtime engine that installs certain libraries to allow someone without the full Visual C++ installed to run applications developed using Visual C++. But either installing this redistributable package or the full Visual C++ engine will allow you to properly run Waterfox. For a regular user, I'd recommend the redistributable package.

Waterfox working spectacularly on my computer. Windows 7 Home Premium. I made sure to install the C++ realtime environment first and I haven't run into any problems.

It looks to be working. I'll try using it over a few days off and on to see if I want it as a secondary or my primary browser. Thanks again for you help.
