Title: SOPA Returns as Ransomware

Oh boy!  Ransomware!  Haven't seen one of those in a while.  Anyways, there is currently a virus going on that uses the now dead SOPA bill as a way to scare people into forking over cash to get the infected computer working again.

In order to remove this tricky little thing, you have to remove it manually in Safe Mode, and even activating Safe Mode alone is tough to do when you have ransomware.

Luckily, you can just look at the link below of how to remove it if you are infected.

There are a dozen different variations of this virus.  It can be a real tricky bitch.  Occasionally you'll get one that's not that simple that downloads other viruses.  There's one out there that claims to be the FBI and that you've downloaded illegal files like movies, music, or child porn.  Or that you were caught trying to hack into a government website.  There's also one that claims to be your local PD (they determine your location by IP address).  Many of my clients have fallen victim to this.  I've removed this virus and its many cousins so many times my head hurts. :bang

I'd like to be in the same room with the person who makes this crap...  unsupervised...  for ten minutes... with a Louisville Slugger and my electrician pliers.  On second thought, skip the Louisville Slugger.  The electrician pliers can do the same thing and more.

Who does this shit? Ransomware is just evil and anyone who programs this should go to jail and never be allowed near a computer again.

Perhaps we can "persuade" them to donate their bodies to science...

This isn't really SOPA.  It's just some moron trying to scam people.  They can't use legally use SOPA since it didn't pass.  Besides, everything about this is illegal as can be.  Heck, from what I've seen on Youtube videos about this virus, the spelling and grammar are horrible.  It's painfully obvious that it's just some idiot trying to scare people into giving them money.
