Title: discovered "Terrible Dactyl"
Post by: Jrd89 on October 27, 2012, 03:59:39 AM
Only 2 days ago, I discovered a cartoon pteranodon that I NEVER even knew existed before (thanks to youtube searches.) ;)

I discovered "Terrible Dactyl" a villain pteranodon from a 1987 animated series called "Dinosaucers" (Of course I wasn't around for it. It was on 2 years before I was even born)

He's got a British accent, but it's higher pitched and more snobby-sounding than Pterano's.

I love the way Terrible Dactyl was modeled   :yes Long crest, long pointed beak,
large wings, good claws.. Well done. That's just how I like an animated pteranodon to look. ;)  :yes

and this was the episode I stumbled upon.. (a villain.. turned "good guy" for one episode..  Terrible put his concern for these baby pteranodon eggs over his fellow "Tyrannos." Helping/protecting babies of your own species comes first.. ;)

Terrible calls the baby pteranodons his "little cousins". :) as for the hatching scene.. I WAS crying too, as the baby pteranodon hatched right in Terrible's claws.    :cry    :) awwh! hee heh.

I admire the way Terrible Dactyl was drawn. I don't like little sissy sized crests or little wimpy-wings or little short stubby beaks..

I like.. a long crest, a long beak, and big wings. and that's what Terrible Dactyl has.

(the only "real-life pteranodon" inaccuracies that Terrible has...   is that he has teeth (unlike a real pteranodon) and that his tail should be much shorter (pteranodon's didn't have long tails) .. but oh well,  I won't argue on that. Terrible didn't HAVE to be 100% real-life pteranodon accurate in every feature of his body. He's a cartoon character, for pete's sake.. you've gotta have your anthropomorphic features! :lol

I'm happy that I discovered this pteranodon villain. I had no clue he even existed until I saw that video only a couple of days ago. I'm really happy, guys! :yes

Personally, I think Terrible Dactyl was a very well-drawn pteranodon character, and now i've really gotten to like him! :)

Nice find, Jared! Here's a series I've never heard of. Terrible Dactyl does have eery similarities with Pterano. It is possible he served as an inspiration for Pterano, but the popularity of the Evil Brit (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvilBrit) trope could easily mean that Pterano was created independently as well.

Update:

I watched that camping episode "Camp Tyranno".. and I REALLY LOVE Terrible now. (him wearing a t-shirt.. it's as if Terrible got into my closet or dresser drawer and put one on. whoa! Lol! ^_^ (this is part one of that episode (#58, Camp Tyranno)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XgyhzZqKJE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XgyhzZqKJE)

(Now, in all seriousness.. I really don't mean to sound gay, creepy, or anything that'd sound very unusual or disturbing in these next few paragraphs.... *i'm straight*. I'd love it if Terrible and I were friends, and that I'd invite him to stay at my house.

I do happen to have blue eyes JUST LIKE him! and every time Terrible pops up on the screen..I can't help it.. my lips always curl up and I smile.and think.. "Oop! There he is!! heh heh! "

(I'm 23, but I don't care if I sound like a little 5 or 6 year old boy..) I'd invite Terrible to my house. I'd tell him how much I love pteranodons and that they are a million times better than any old land Dino.. And that I love the large wings, long beak and crest. (my favorite features in a pteranodon.)

And that he sounds the most intelligent out of all the Tyrannos.

Let's see.. He may fit in my bed (it's a queen sized mattress.. Terrible and I both may be able to squeeze in.. I don't think he's too heavy. Lol.

It'd be like us hanging out/being friends while he stayed with me.. hee hee! ^_^ Maybe he'd have a special power or have a trick to turn ME into a Pteranodon!! 8 ) Hee haa! and you KNOW i'd love that!

And of course, I'd hug him in friendship... if he'd let me, that is. *As I said earlier..no gay, dirty messages intended in all seriousness.. it'd be just a friend-friend hug*

MAN is he awesome! I had to have watched about.. 25 Dinosaucer videos on youtube tonight. and man are my eyes sore   .. Lol. heh.

I could eventually even rank Terrible AHEAD of Pterano.. since Pterano was only a 1-shot movie character who never appeared again..... while Terrible has PLENTY of episodes.. a few DOZEN at that, with plenty more screen time than Pterano.

Still, I love Pterano (for favorite LBT character) But I will say, Terrible Dactyl is REALLY growing on me.. ;) I swear! I never knew this pteranodon EXISTED until last week.

And my lips really automatically curl up into a smile as soon as Terrible appears on screen.  :yes

Imagine both Terrible Dactyl and Pterano in the same story.

Whoa! In the same story?  That I can imagine, Kor.. that I can..  :yes Lol!  I can also imagine what they'd sound like talking to each other..   2 british-accented pteranodons.. (Terrible's is slightly higher pitched, and a little more "snobby know it all" sounding. :) )

That could be interesting to see.  I can think of a number of scenarios, as I"m sure many can, that can explain how they can meet.
