Title: Don't Starve
Post by: Mumbling on May 16, 2013, 03:26:56 PM
I'm sure you may have heard of this game by now. I got it from my boyfriend for my birthday and have been enjoying it a lot ever since.

If you don't know what it is, it is some sort of survival game. You need to make sure to stay warm in winter, have a light at night and gather food... But literally anything in the world can and will try to kill you.

I made a little video of trying out 'Adventure Mode' which is pretty much the more difficult version of the Sandbox mode. Make sure to check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6MgbVXWH5w (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6MgbVXWH5w)

So you can watch me fail and be sarcastic :lol

I have seen a few promotional videos for this game, but I haven't yet got around to actually purchasing it.  Your video is the first that I have actually seen of a Let's Play of the game.  The highly stylized graphics look extremely appealing to me and your video makes the game look very challenging and fun.  I will definitely have to check it out.

I'll have to admit I've been too busy to play the game at all the past few weeks, but it is still on my games top 10 of all time! :) If you get a chance to check it out, definitely do!

I have started playing the game and I must say that it gets surprisingly challenging.  Thus far, I have unlocked three characters (besides the Scientist) due to the experience that I have built up.  I have also learned that it is a bad idea to steal a Tallbird's egg when the mother hen is watching :slap, as that lead to my second death on that game.  This game is one of the most addictive games I have played since Minecraft, which makes sense because I absolutely adore games in the sandbox genre.

Nice to hear you're enjoying the game! :D And yeah, mommy bird can get rather pissed, haha. A tallbird was probably my biggest annoyance, as it killed me in the darkness level of adventure mode (pretty much the final level in the game) while it was hiding behind a tree.... :p

I have just started playing the Screecher mod for Don't Starve, which is the first mod I have ever loaded into the game.  Overall, it is quite fitting for the Halloween season.  I know that for games like Minecraft there is a plethora of good mods, but I am unfamiliar with the modding scene around Don't Starve.  I was wondering if anyone else who plays the game had any recommendations for other good mods?

I've personally only made a dutch translation mod :p Doubt you'll have much use of that.

There are many fun characters that people have designed that you can use for an extra challenge. There is a giant mod being created with some sort of beanstalk going up into the clouds, but that is long from finished. The steam workshop has many mods that you can simply browse through :)

A couple I personally found a nice addition to the game were tallbrood (tallbird eggs come out and the babybird grows up and settles somewhere else) and the one with different kind of elephants depending on the surrounding you're in.

^Thanks for the reply. I will have to check some of those out.  In particular, the tallbrood sounds like an interesting addition to the game.
