Petrie's appetite was often larger than his stomach.  Thankfully, Spike was always around to eat the rest.

Cera: "Gee, what's with all these huge treesweets? This is the fifth one this week."

Littlefoot: " I recall them appearing, and only once in a while, after a few cold times since the leagobblers had visited the Valley."

Ducky: "I don't remember any before Pterano showed up, nope nope nope!"

Ruby: "You mean the one who followed that strange stone, the strange stone follower, is that the one?"

Chomper: "You mean the stone that blew up all of a sudden just because it was hit?"

Littlefoot: "Yeah, the stone that was washed away since the last great flood in the Valley."

Cera: "Oh no."
