Title: What do you think protects the Great Valley?

So, what makes the Great Valley so safe?  Can anything get past its defenses and do real harm?

I honestly thought the idea of the tree fruits the smell of which was unbearable for sharpteeth was a brilliant one. That would explain how all the migrating herds could get into the Great Valley while most carnivores were kept at bay too.

A nice chunk of the fanbase believe that the Sharpteeth are actually smarter than they are made out to be.

Basically, prey is easier to get in The Mysterious Beyond because of how divided herds are out there, but in The Great Valley, the herds work together to help and protect one another.  Any smart sharptooth would rather take the easy route when it comes to getting a meal.

As for Red Claw, I feel that he has a reason to enter The Great Valley that's beyond just getting a meal.  What is that?  Well, let's just say I have my theories.

Red Claw does seem to hang around the Great Valley's borders a lot. It would be logical to assume that he's trying to find an entrance, yeah. As for what his motives can be... Probably something to do with the gang. Or Chomper and Ruby specifically. Perhaps he's figured out their plan to teach the herds to unite against the predators and wants to put a stop to it. :)

Which sharptooth in their right mind (that may exclude redclaw) would want to go into the Great Valley except for good reason (which Chomper's parents had)?
A simple risk analys strongly suggests to avoid a place where sharpteeth tend to get drowned, knocked to fall to their death, being burried alive etc. Why not go after stragglers from migrating herds or the like rather than take the risk of a place whose inhabitants (unlike migrators) are actually defending.
Basic common sense would make sharptooth stay out of the Great Valley unless they have a very good reason to go there.
