:wow Hello folks, I hope you all had a great day/night.
The title is basically my experience with the fandom. I always snoop around fandoms looking for those tasty bad endings to get my tragedy fix. :bestsharptooth This fandom is gold mine for bad endings and I'm not sure why but me the bad ending queen approves. I eventually found out how deep this fandom goes and how many great fics there is here.
A lot of people joined here because of the fandoms heavy hitters, rhombus, owls, ect... not exactly the reason I joined however. Don't get me wrong they inspired me to join the fandom as a whole, as if loving the movies didn't count as already being in it. :P
Then what was the reason you joined then? It's simple really, I made my first LBT fic and I decided why not just hang out with the other fans.
My fic is in my sig, I'll post it in the fanfic board later today explaining what it is in detail.

For some odd reason this fandom is one weighed more towards angst and melancholy (blame the source material). And cruelly ironic as it is, I'm someone who can write angst, but am averse to reading it, which is awful (for me) because that, drama, and Hurt/Comfort might as well be the default LBT writer's refuge and specialty.
But enough about that, hello and welcome to the Gang of Five. You have joined a decent number of members who joined the forum for the express purpose of joining the writing subgroup, me included. :lol We are always eager to have more writers in our humble abode. :)

I'm very much obsessed with the Musicbox/Lullaby Version of the song. I mean I love the original too it's just this version made me realize how depressing the lyrics are. It means a lot to me.

Hi Owls. :rainbowwave
I don't really remember the movies being that dark though, I haven't watched most of them in a while but... The first movie had it's moments especially with how bleak everything seemed. My theory is that most people realized that their was a lot of ways the gang's fate could ended horribly in the movies.
I've been writing angst/tragedy ever since I've started writing so this fandom is perfect for me. :P Oh, I didn't know you didn't like angst, sorry about that, I loved your scrambled eggs fic though it's one of the best bad endings I've seen recently.
I'm glad to be here with you all, I'll probably peek into the fanart form sometimes as I can draw as well. :)

Hello Sneak! :^^spike
I love happy endings in the end as well, especially after a stressful time.

Another member of the writing subgroup here! While one of the reasons why I joined was to publish my fanfictions here, the wide variety of topics and discussions the forum offers was too good of a chance to pass. I hope you'll have a great time in our community! :chompysmile

A New Mu-u-ud Brother?
Hello there, and welcome to the Gang of Five! Yeah, many people here joined cause of the fanfics. Not surprising really. :p
I’m probably one of the only people joining not because of that. :lol
But anyway, I hope you enjoy hanging out in our Great Valley with many new friends to make and a bunch of content to discover! :smile
I’m curious. When did you first discover LBT? And do you have a favorite sequel?

@ImpracticalDino
Greetings Dino!
I'm glad to be here. :chompysmile
I watched it as a kid 'cause I was one of those dinosaur kids, still am as you can plainly see. :p Not sure when my parents got the movies or if they bought them or they got passed on to them, I have the old vhs tapes of all the sequels.
I remember 5 and 10 being my favorites. I've rewatched 10 recently, skipping some parts here and there, and I still really like it. I haven't watched 5 in years but I remember it fondly and I'm sure I would love it again.

I'm gonna be honest, I've always been kind of surprised how many tragic endings show up in the realm of LBT fanfics. @OwlsCantRead I'm kinda not sure what you mean by "blame the source material," either. The first movie is the only one that gets very dark, and it still has a happy ending. :thinking
I should elaborate, oops. That is actually why. It is actually the disparity of the sequels being softer and not as harsh as the original that causes authors to recently start exploring the darker parts of the franchise, by using the lore and world-building of the sequels and combining it with the tone of the first film (and then some).
Now I admit, this was a shift that was perpetuated by Rhombus' The Seven Hunters, a fic which got many of us into the fandom, or ended up inspiring others who wrote stories which in a cyclical cycle of inspiration, starting the current generation of authors. Now I'm not saying he was responsible, but he was a catalyst to the current tone, direction, and focus of many of us. That's why many of us focus less on slice-of-life and more on character-driven, often somber stories.
Oh, well, in any case, I guess this makes me a rare LBT writer who actually tends to write *gasp* happy endings! Sorry to let you guys down... :lol
That said... most of us still like and prefer happy (or at least bittersweet) endings, me included. While there are a lot of darker, angsty, and somber stories, there aren't actually a lot of fics that flat-out end in tragedy. :p As much as we write things being depressing, they tend to end on a sweeter note. Those that do (the 'kill the gang' stories, gotta have at least one) tend to stick out as a result, haha.
