I got this idea while solving a puzzle in the newspaper.
Basically, it's a coded word game. I shall put up a word, but it shall be in code. The first person to guess the word correctly first, gets to go next.
Now, let me set a few ground rules for this game.
1: The coded word must be at least 7 letters long.
2: One letter must stand for another. No symbols, save for those that normally show up in the word, are allowed.
3: Only 1 letter shall be revealed as the hint to what the word is.
4: Only 1 written out clue as to what the word is will be given.
Now, since I'm sure everyone understands the rules. Let's begin Crypto!
The word in code:
CKYLXZJF
L = O
Clue: This race roamed the earth for millions of years.
Good luck to all! :^.^:
-
DINOSAUR
B)
Ahh yes, I've seen this game before. I'll give it a shot! I'll let you confirm my answer first though. :p
-
You are correct. The word was DINOSAUR.
It's your turn, action9000. :)

-
nope! guess again!
-
MOTHERBOARD
-
Great job Stitch! Your turn!
-
MOTHERBOARD
I only see now it says "electronic" children and not "eccentric" children. :lol: I'm not playing this game as soon as I roll out of bed anymore.
-
RNXXNTS
Assignment
S = N

SOIKSLUM
I=S
America's favorite sport....

I would like to say BASEBALL, but that isn't possible, since your scrambled word doesn't have the same last two letters... right? :huh:
-
I would like to say BASEBALL, but that isn't possible, since your scrambled word doesn't have the same last two letters... right?
Actually.......YES! YOU GOT IT!!!!!!!!!
Your turn!
-
That was actually tough, in a way. Each letter must stand for another, but your last two weren't alike. SOIKSOUU would have been more like it. Your obvious clue was the only way I ever knew. BUUUUUT, I think it's time we got on down the road.
QWHJOYYO
H=R
For over 50 years, it's been America's sports car.

Oh, and by the way, the answer is SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, right?

That's my fault :blink: but the good news is you did get it right........and the letter would've been like this....
W=H....again sorry for the missing letter... :^.^:

HTFBIDWNKOIWYKNKHVKDBZQBWNKPUDKUTH
V=T
A rather infamous Wheel of Fortune puzzle.

I think this is the word that only appeared in Mary Poppins. :)
It's SUPERCALIFRAGILELISTICISPYALLADOCIOUS
I think it's spelled wrong, but I think you know what I'm trying to type. :^.^:
-
YES! Someone finally gets it right!
This was, in fact, a puzzle on the April 4 show in 1998 on Wheel of Fortune. The category, if memory serves, was "Really Long Title."
-
Gee! It was only a guess, but if you get it right, then that's all that matters. :)
Okay, this one is...
UJUUKRKDZGKLH
H = N
Involves Egypt. :D
Good luck! :^.^:
-
Okay, seeing as how no one has guessed it yet, I'm going to give you another letter to the puzzle.
Here's the word in code, just in case you forgot:
UJUUKRKDZGKLH
H = N
U = M
Maybe that will help. :)
-
MUMMIFICATION.
-
Correct, prehistorian. Your turn! :^.^:
-
LXWMNWBJCRXW
A kind of change in the state of matter.
C=T.
-

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you've left out a letter....but it may just be my pooor spelling... :^.^:
-
Sorry, that's not the answer. Look again.
-
CONDENSATION matches perfectly with your scrambled word.
-
Correct. Your turn.

-
CBHHJMRTMJO
J=L
generic historic or present-day location; or video game.
-
The chumps have been stumped. :cry2
-
Here's another clue that isn't quite as general.
Try not to start a war over this crypto, but if you insist on it, this word is the place to do it. B)
-
BATTLEFIELD.
Your first clue really was too foggy. A battlefield isn't quite a "generic historic or present day location".
-
You got it. B)
I was trying to avoid the problem we have been having so far in the game of the clues giving away the answer (as my second clue basically did). I agree though, it was pretty vague. In a cryptogram, I always thought of the clue to be a vague lead in the direction to take the puzzle, not a direct path towards the answer. Then again, most crytograms give the players more than one word to work with to solve it, too. :P:
I really think a cypto game needs longer cryptograms. A single word just doesn't let the player work out the missing letters. A phrase or sentence would be much more appropriate. This game is more like hangman than cryptograms. :P:
I suggest two-or-more-word puzzles in the future.
-
QWF HWYUI
I=E
Smaller than a hotel room.

I've negelcted this game. :DD
QWF HWYUI

QWF HWYUI
I=E
Smaller than a hotel room. Put Fido in here so he can chew on his bone out of the rain.
-
Dog House?
-
That would be the house I'm looking fer. Your turn, The Great Valley Guardian.
-
The vigilante is taking over. :p
EFE ERTYUT
F=O
Famous animal rights activist.
-
I want to say "Bob Barker" but the letters in the second word suggest that isn't it. I do think it's "Bob" something though...not sure who though... :slap
-
I'm giving you that one because I missed the two Rs. :unsure:
-
Hehe....sorry about that...I've been having issues at home...sorry if I kinda left you guys hanging! :blink: So I assume Action9000 gets to do the next post?
-
Yes, he does. :)

interesting game I think :yes let's revive this guys!
I'll quote the rules of the game now to make things easier

VIYWYL WZAQ
Y=U
It's a mountain
Good luck! :DD
-
Assuming that you added an extra letter to the first word, the only thing I could think of that solves the puzzle would be:
Haupu Peak
Is that correct?
-
Ugh! I, honestly, don't remember the word I had coded :angel
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Haupu Peak though!
Nonetheless, you may continue I guess :)
-
Alright. How about this:
BEALT BLQA
B=P
This is also a mountain. :smile
-
Pikes Peak?
-
Correct! :yes Your turn jansenov.
-
SESSION
I=A
An activity adults engage in near their children.
-
Lullaby?
-
Yes. I wanted a riddle where both the solution and the riddle look nice. Looks nice, but makes for poor cryptography.
You're next, rhombus. And have mercy on us. :p
-
You're next, rhombus. And have mercy on us. :p
Don't worry, this shouldn't be too difficult. :smile
WIQVBIO
I = R
This is a sport that has been played since ancient times.
-
*bump*
This game has been inactive for a while, but the last puzzle shouldn't be too difficult.
