Title: Nixon & Watergate, 50 years ago
Post by: The Chronicler on August 09, 2024, 08:50:20 PM
I just realized that today (or yesterday, depending on your time zone) is the 50th anniversary of when Richard Nixon resigned from office as president of the United States, following the long and complicated scandal know today simply as Watergate.

Anyone want to share any thoughts on the subject and/or how relevant it is to today's political environment?

Watergate had a big impact on me when I was younger, I (foolishly) thought there would never be anything like that amount of naked corruption ever again. I actually emailed Daniel Ellsberg in 9th grade to thank him for his bravery in releasing the Pentagon Papers, and he wrote me some kind words back! It's still the main time I've interacted with an historical figure, and I think the repercussions of what happened in Watergate are still reverberating through history and modern politics to this day.
