Well, I don¥t know if this is the right place to say it, but however. I was thinking about a chat for the gangoffive forum. So that everybody who is signed in in the forum can speak with the other people over a chat. Don¥t know too, if this idea was there before.
What do you think about it?

I've seen it before, but it had to be removed from one of the sites I frequented because it took up too much bandwidth on the server apparently

That would be hard to do. InvisionFree is quite limited in functionality.

It is possible and I know how to do it through one of my computer systems, but I'd have to leave it running all the time (pain in the butt and electricity isn't free), and when something went wrong, I'd have to fix it myself (meaning long periods of downtime), and honestly, If someone here really needed to talk to someone else right away, 4-5 people could always jump into an msn conversation.  We don't have that many members and the members we do have are from all over the world.  Example, when it's 4:00am here, It's 2:00pm Malte's time.  I'm probably the only one who's crazy enough to be up at 4am, so There really isn't a point to an online chat board at this time.

Have you done this sort of thing to remotely hosted forums like InvisionFree?

This perfectly sums up why we don't have a realtime chat system yet.  The admins here have no intention of setting one up, mainly for these reasons stated above.

All I'd have to do would be to create a new site and Petire could put a link on the top of this site.  Not that hard, but running a computer 24/7 can run about $40 a month (trust me, I know :lol )

Oh, I thought you meant like messing around with this board's style sheet or something (but that requires administrator privileges  ). Pretty much anyone can create a separate site and link to that. What I'm talking about is the built in chat I've seen on some sites.

Okey, I understand now why there isn¥t a chatroom yet. Was just an idea.
@ lbtlover. 40$? I didn¥t know yet, that this cost anything

I'm just talking about running the computer that hosts the chatting thing.  It uses a lot ofbandiwidth.  You could pay someone else to host the site, but it'd be even more expensive. -_- Not to mention the increased risk of hackers. <_<

There was an attempt to create a chatroom for the N54 land before time forum, but hardly anyone ever visited it. If there was any interest it might be more practicable to agree on a time convenient enough for all who would like to participate in a chat and then use MSN (as the chatting program used by the majority of chatters among the GOF members). However, looking how even chats with four or even three people tend to become rather confusing with nobody knowing who is talking to whom and referring to what I doubt such a mass chat would be practicable.

We'll just be continuing our MSN meetings and leave it at that.  Those work fine.  If you're online, you're online, if not, you're not.
