Title: Psychology: The Dancing Girl
Post by: action9000 on December 08, 2007, 11:52:56 PM
This little test states that it shows left-brained or right-brained tendancy of a person by how the brain interprets the animation on the following site.
http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21...5005375,00.html (http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,22492511-5005375,00.html)

I found this quite fascinating.  To me, she spins clockwise most of the time (signifying that I'm generally right-brained, which I'll believe for sure) but with enough concentration I can focus on getting her to spin counter-clockwise.

OMG!  This is really making me mad!  Every time I look at it, it's spinning the other way!   WTF?!

haha Sounds like you're a lot more rounded than I am! :p 999 times out of 1000 she going clockwise to me :p

I'll add a "both" option to the poll for cases like this.

I honestly can't tell if I use more of the right or left side of my brain.  I wanna know! :( God, I swear, 1/2 the time it's going clockwise and the other half it's not.

Try this one, LBTlover.  It may settle your mind a little. ;)
http://www.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm (http://www.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm)

Here's the result I scored on this test:

Quote
You responded as a right brained person to 11 questions, and you responded as a left brained person to 7questions. According to the Hemispheric Dominance test, you use your right brain the most. The summary briefly describes your dominance type. Remember, this only represents half of the picture. After you read the description, click on the link at the bottom of the page to find out how to use this information to improve your study strategies. Do not forget to print your results, if your instructor has requested you to do so.

Some of the traits associated with the right side of the brain are listed in the table. Not all of the traits will apply to you. Remember, we use both side of our brain, but your right sides gets the most exercise.

Type of Cognitive Processing
 Brief Description

Holisitc Processing information from whole to part; sees the big picture first, not the details.
Random  Processing information with out priority, jumps form one task to another.
Concrete Processes things that can be seen , or touched - real objects.
Intuitive Processes information based on whether or not it feels right know answer but not sure how it was derived.
Nonverbal Processes thought as illustrations.
Fantasy-Oriented Processes information with creativity; less focus on rules and regulations

Well, no.  Not really.  I can't answer half of those question. <_< Like this one:

Quote
Is it easier for you to remember people's names or to remember people's faces?

Neither

Quote
Speaking in strictly relative terms, is it easier for you to understand

I've only been through one of them so far.

Quote
When you walk into a theater, classroom, or auditorium (and assuming that there are no other influential factors), which side do you prefer.

I don't have a preference.

Quote
Can you tell approximately how much time passed without a watch?

I've only ever had a digital watch and I've only seen an analog one a few times in my life.

Quote
Do you do your best thinking sitting erect or lying down?

How should I know?

This test is weird...

once I figured out how to get an "anti-clockwise" (it's counter clockwise here in the States) spin, I can see it from either direction... but before that my brain hurt trying to figure it out XD I kept seeing it from the top... not thinking it'd be different from the bottom XD

Left for me. It spins mostly counterclockwise, but sometimes, randomly, it would spin the other way. Hmm..maybe I should have picked both...

I should've, I wasn't being logical enough when I examined it

I think this test is rigged or hijinxed somehow. It spins clockwise for me. However, my internet connection loaded the image rather slowly, and the image loaded in an obvious clockwise motion for me, so I don't know....

Rigged? How?

it's not rigged, however a slow internet connection may cause a problem or two; i'm not sure.  There is a related article to this test.  The article talks about the reliability of the test in general and why it works.

I was partially joking. :P: But I think the slow loading time may have affected the outcome slightly.

In reality, this test is much more about individual perception flexibility than left brain versus right brain.  Sorry for the mislead; I read the wrong parts of the articles.  Apparently the frames of the animation don't line up quite right in a couple of places and that's where the brain can best make the adjustment to change direction.

you realize that the article obsoletes the thread right?

guess so lol

I use my left side of my brain, according to both tests, which is not surprising at all, i've always thought of myself as being a more logical person.

lol 9:9 results in left dominance, meaning there's probably either a => or a =< in the setup XD no mid-brain test

I don't think that other test would work for me, because there are no in-between answers, such as the question, "When you walk into a theater, classroom, or auditorium (and assuming that there are no other influential factors), which side do you prefer." It will only let you answer left or right, but not the middle or neither. I really have no such preference, and I often go with either one.

Same here.  Usually when I show up, it's typically unwillingly and I either don't get to decide where to sit or I just don't care.  I mean, I've never actually went to a theater or auditorium because I wanted to. I've always been dragged to one of those things by either teachers or my parents.

I actually have a good reason for choosing one side or the other....my left eye is stronger than the right, so if I want to read stuff I want to sit to the right. :P:  If I sat to the left I'd be turning my head often.

I got her to spin in both directions.

My mind kept seeing it as a 2-D object being flipped around, and I kinda realized this after a while. The swinging of the legs was what really got me though, but after a while it was just like she kept changing directions. She would go left, stop, turn around to the right etc etc. Like she was only following a single 180 degree rotation back and forth...

When I first looked at it, she was going counter-clockwise. Then I read the bit of information on the left and it said most people see her going clockwise. I looked again, and plain as day I could see she was going clockwise! Five minutes later, I couldn't change her direction back.  :bang
