On your computer I mean....any specific file types?
I rip most of my stuff into a format called WMA Lossless (you can do this with Media Player 9 or 10) and it's been proven that you cannot tell the difference between the cd it came from and the file, even though the file is about 10MB less than an uncompressed WAV file. The bit rate is variable and changes as the music does so some parts have higher bitrates than others.
I don't do much in terms of mp3 files since Media Player has actually corrupted some of them where the duration is terribly incorrect and I can't browse through the song anymore. I've yet to see it do such a thing to one of it's own children. Also, believe it or not, mp3 encoding sounds different from the cd...not everyone can hear the difference, but it's there so I don't do that anymore.
What also helps is I don't have an mp3 player, nor do I want one and since Media Player can burn cds why should I give up quality in the first place when a cd can only hold 80 minutes of music any way you slice it? :)
So what do you guys do?

I've made the switch from tangible to intangible. My CD collection is nowhere near the libraries I have seen in other people's places. I can almost count the number of CDs I have on my fingers. LOL <_< My media library on the other hand is packed with downloaded music; everything from MP3s to WMAs, MIDIs and WAV files. I very seldomly use CD anymore since I got an MP3 player and it prefer it too. It's small, easy to use and I can just add more tracks as I go along. Also, it's great for when you're on the go! No need to swap CDs when you're sitting on the bus going into town when you wanna here something new. ;)
I love my little player. It's only small and it can be used as a memory stick to transport any other file type from one computer to another. Did I mention it's small?! :p 256 megs of space for anything you want. I've got 90+ songs (4+ hours of solid music) on it and still got 100MB left! Sorry to brag but it's MP3 all the way for me...CDs for me are becoming the next tape cassettes LOL :lol

I thought about that as I did WMA lossless backups on my computer for future cd burning/mixing. :D I won't say CDs are dead until recording artists start offering mp3 downloads for their albums in place of cds. Until that day comes (or the option is offered) that disc isn't going anywhere.

Im sure you can tell what my next line's gonna be Arvens! ;)

You only tell me about five times a week. One more couldn't hurt.

I probably now should keep all of my files on a flash drive, since I had some issues with my hard drive.
But my music is usually all kept on my i-pod nano and on itunes.
*resurrects this topic from the dead* :P:

It's so simply and easy to use.

mp3 files good enough for me, they're all in seperate folder for different artists.
-
I prefer the .mp3 format.

Wow, did someone bump an old topic. :p
I don't use WMA Lossless anymore...moved onto FLAC. And I do buy mp3 files from amazon if I can't get the cd for less than the songs I like. If I want the whole album I get the cd.

I keep mine using a three step cycle:
Limewire - PC - P2
But I store all my music on the PC. And it's alot.
The P2 holds 4GB. But I bought it quite recently so it's not ful yet.

WAV files.

I download music all the time to look for something that'll work for a MV. Most of the time it's in either MP3 or M4a (or something like that). Occasionally it'll be in WAV, but not normally.

I have some on cd only, some on mp3 only and some I have in both formats.

Not sure, though I think its usually MP3. Then again I've been addicted to Pandora lately so I don't worry about this stuff.
