Title: Drafts for this years awards
Post by: Malte279 on March 21, 2008, 12:56:44 PM
Hi!
The voting already started, but the awards have not yet been presented to the public. Here are the awards this years vote is about. Please note that there will be more alternative drafts for the awards, but they are not yet finished. The winner of a particular award may chose the draft which he or she likes best. Here they are:

I just fixed a formatting issue in the code where the bottom image wasn't displaying.

Not bad.

Quick note: I think you should edit that second post you made because the last image is in text and not an image.

I think the black text on some is a little hard to read

I agree.  On some of the awards the lettering needs to be a different color to help more ease of reading.

Sorry, I made a bad Faux Pas.  :bang
I didn't realize that the draft I issued for this years RPG Award has already been used for last year's gamer award. I'm sorry about that. There will be a different draft for the RPG award and your gamer award will remain individual Lain_EX.
I'm sorry about that mistake.

Nice work! I don't think I could ever do that.

For the philosopher one, I like the second one the most.

I finished some more award drafts. Special thanks to Austin (landbeforetimelover), Patrick (Nimrod), and Tim (action9000) who provided me with screenshots for the award drafts :yes

I must come up with (an) alternative(s) for the fanart award.

Those look nice.  It just looks that, to me at least, some letters of the helpful blend in with the dark spot, but the rest a fairly to very easy to read.   You do pretty good awards, though I assume you've experience at making them by now.

The last ones do look nice, however the helpful member and the RPG ones look a little harsh to me.  In color that is.  I just don't think orange suits an award personally.

Yes, I had that impression too. Somehow I preferred the dark script on the orange background, but for the sake of readability the white alternative may be the better choice. I leave that to the one who will win this award, if the winner should decide to pick this award draft.

Thank you for your compliments. :)
Meanwhile I have a little practice in creating these awards, but I do hope that some day I manage to get the hang of photoshop to the degree where I can create something like our real Photoshop artists (not for the awards, but in general).

They are somewhat garish, that's true. I try to pick scenes from the movies which in one way or another seem to fit to what the award is about. Sometimes these scenes come in shrill colors. With different drafts to pick from the winners have at least a moderate possibility to choose a style which they like best.
As for orange being an unsuitable color for an award, luckily some people apparently disagree with you: :nyah

Also instead of white, maybe a color that doesn't blend in with the orange areas or the black strip.

Uhm... there had been some discussion in the staff room about the design of the awards and it was finally agree that in the future there will be only black or white inscriptions which in most cases proves to be much more readable than any of the other colors. I also redesigned all of the awards of the last two years in order to make them more readable with the black and white script and in order to change the wording of some of them. I guess I should soon start a new thread with the redesigned awards for the winners of 2006 and 2007 to pick.
Many of them are really much more readable than the previous drafts.
