As those who have read Twilight Valley already know, the Great Valley has an "air force" of sorts.
It will be referred to by name later in the fan fic and I can't seem to come up with names for it.
By names I mean things like: squadron names and the name of the "air force" itself.
So far I have:
"Air Force" names
Great Valley Squadron
Great Valley Flight Team
Great Valley Air Force
Squadron names
I'm considering naming the squadrons after Great Valley locales.
Victory [number]
Formation [number]
Side note: Pterano gets quite a bit more respect and a title! Squadron Leader Pterano! :lol :DD
Bear in mind that the "air force" will do non-combat related activities (airshows, rescue, etc.).

There can also maybe some specialty groups, some that are scouts, larger ones who can drop rocks and logs, ect.

You may call them as "Flight Groups", like: Flight Group One, Flight Group Two, .... etc. I think that sounds less militaristic and still shows that you are refering to Flyiers.

I'm actually aiming for a militaristic slant.
Reason: Great Valley is at war.
I have actually debated if I should split the Great Valley Air Force into a military and civilian division.
Civilian - "Great Valley Flight Team" (Rearming, low-risk recon, rescue, transport, etc.)
Military - "Great Valley Air Corps" (Combat, high-risk recon, escort, etc.)
If I do decide to split them, "Flight Group" will be used to refer to the civilian branch and "Squadron" will be used to refer to the military branch.
Kor, I did decide to have the flyers split into different roles (scout, intercepter and ground support).

How about:
Military: Great Valley Aerial Force - Alpha (Beta, Gamma, etc. for other teams)
Civilian: Aerial "Civil" Force - T1 (T2, T3, etc for other teams)
That's what I can come up with. Creating names are so difficult. DX

What I do when I need these types of names are to use the names of letters within an alphabet. Sky has already shown how the Greek alphabet came be used (Alpha, Beta, Gamma Delta, Epsilon...).
In the middle of writing a novel, which is still "under construction", I found I needed to do exactly what you're doing now. After a while browsing the internet for ideas I eventually settled on naming my wings after letters of the old Goth alphabet (Aza, Bercna, Geuua and Daaz).
There are many alphabets out there, and I like your idea of effectively splitting the air force in half, military and civilian. You could also do this using two separate alphabets.

Actually, I first suggested that idea.
I did consider naming the squadrons (military division) after Great Valley locations but I did run into some problems (Bubbling Muds Squadron just isn't fitting).

For those who suggested using other alphabets, how would the LBT Dinos know about the other alphabets?
The NATO phonetic alphabet might work though?
For now it will be:
Military: Squadron 1, Squadron 2, etc.
Civilian: Flight Team 1, Flight Team 2.
I kinda don't like those names though.
I have considered using "LBT Dino" names for the military squadrons (Longneck Squadron, Threehorn Squadron) but I ran into problems (Flyer Squadron?)
