I guess it's the tv miniseries instead of the tv series?  Just asking for those who do have cable.

I've never seen Dinotopia but i'm looking forward to watching it on the Sci-Fi Channel. Does anyone know the exact time it is going to air?

I imagine it is the original miniseries from 2002 that was shown on ABC, not the later tv series which was cancelled.  I have it on DVD and its about that long.  Didn't compare to the books, and they took a lot of liberties with it.  Can't go wrong with the music. :D  (I had to search for a bit to get ahold of the soundtrack.)

Unfortunately I don't get the Sci Fi channel.  I'll check my TV guide to see if it is appearing on a similar channel that I Do get. B)

It is on Sci-Fi this sunday from 5:00 to 11:00 pm, and it is the Emmy-winning miniseries.

The series itself sucked, but the miniseries was really cool..

In my opinion it was just the other way round. Neither series lived up to Gurney's books but the series seemed to be much closer to it than the miniseries which depicted Dinotopia as a kind of militaristic dictatorship dominated by humans.

He is.  His family runs the dinotopia online store.  If you get a book through the store he'll even sign it, personalize it if you want and draw a dino as well.

Alive, kicking, and publishing ;)
Just last year James Gurney published his fourth book of the Dinotopia series, titled "Journey to Chandara". Looking at the end of the book it seems likely that there is to be another one (though I neither found nor looked for any official information on that so far).

It takes him years to do each book.  He has some information on his web page.  Basically he makes miniatures and has some of his friends, and neighbors pose for him.  He paints stuff so it's not something he can just write and whip out 1-2 a year.  Folks here who may have painted may be able to say how long painting takes.

Yes, imagine how long it takes him to paint some of those, especially the pictures that go across 2 pages or the 2 page spreads.

James Gurney made a fourth book?!  I didn't even know about the third one!  (must make plans to raid all nearby book stores...)

I have the first two by Gurney, two novels by Allen Dean Foster, and at least 7 of the children's books.  I also have the miniseries and the tv series on DVD.  I was disappointed with the tv series, though...

The third one is long out of print and hard to find at times.  The title is "First Flight." It's a 64 page book that I hear takes place mainly in the very distant past of Dinotopia on Poseidos back when they had technology, instead of being set during the 19th century like the first 2 are, though I think there are some references to Will reading the story as scroll.  If you want to get it you may have to go to used book stores, or look at some places like Amazon or ebay to get a used copy, they don't have it even at the dinotopia.com store run by the Gurney family.  I don't have it, only the first 2 and 4th.

The fourth is called  "Dinotopia: Journey to Chandara." It's in format like the first 2, set in the 19th century on dinotopia with Arthur traveling to that city.  I have the book but I've not read it yet, but have looked inside it at some of the paintings."

I have the miniseries, though some things are different then the James Gurney books.
