Title: A Small Problem
Post by: Clawandfang on April 10, 2008, 04:41:51 PM
Just now, my Windows Live messenger decided I could benifit from having a toolbar, and now I cannot get rid of it. Here's a couple of pictures:

and also in conversations:

It's only a minor thing, but it's still annoying me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks pretty normal to me:

Well, I'd like to be rid of everything above the blue band (green on mine.) It didn't use to be there.

That's the newest version of messenger for ya.  I don't think you can change it.  The program thinks it's required crap.  My messenger has looked like that since the day I upgraded to the new version.

So has mine...I didn't really think anything of it though...

It's been so long since I upgraded, I don't even remember what the old version was like.  I do however remember thinking "wow.  what a bunch of visual garbage.  exactly like windows vista.  this is just wonderful....."

I didn't even upgrade. It just appeared one day.

You don't have to give your consent for it to upgrade.  Most stuff is done automatically.

Nope, now and again a little thing would pop up, saying "Please Upgrade!". After this problem started I did upgrade in the hope of it being solved. I've sent off a help form now, perhaps a little drastic but.... oh well.

Geeze.  Just download the older version.  That's the only way to solve it.  The program is what it is.  Unless you know programming or want to change the graphical interface with resource hacker, you're going to have to downgrade in order to get the results you want.

Go 3rd party...you get just what you want with no ads. :)

Anyway, I like what Malte's offline message says in Austin's Messenger pic. :p :p

Not true actually. I loggged in today to find that it had gone, disappeared and was no longer there. All by itself. Look:

It fixed itself (along with adding a toggle on-off button) at the smae time I recieved an email from Live Messenger support team, which just pointed out this new button to me. I don't know if they've fiddled with something at their end or what, but it's back to how it was before now.

I actually can't see anything different between the two images.

Look at what's directly above the green bar at the top of them both. On the first picture there is another bar, this time grey, sitting there. On the second picture there is nothing above it.

It'll probably be back the next time you restart your computer.  It has to do with a conflict with your windows theme and the theme that MSN messenger tries to force the computer to display.  MSN messenger still has some bugs with vista.  Vista has too many problems and that's why I won't upgrade.  In other words, try to get a newer version of messenger.  If they don't have one, they're still not fully supporting vista (not surprising.)  Windows must display it's bar at the top of every application unless the application disables this feature.  The people at MSN must not have perfected this yet for windows vista.

that¥s easy to get rid of the grey taskbar, just click at the right icon in the green taskbar, there should stand something like show menu or something in that way. Click on it and it¥s there, click a second time on it and it¥s away.

Oh!  You meant the navbar.  Why on earth would you want to get rid of that?  It's your doorway to the options and settings in MSN messenger. :p

I know, but that option dissapeared for a while. It's back now though, as I mentioned before. Also, the bar can be easily accessed through a quick separate thing, without looking a bit annoying.
