I guess sometimes we exaggerate our politeness to some degree. Many of the people congratulated here with heart and soul hardly ever posted or haven't been around for two, three, or even more years. I guess there is no real harm in congratulating anyone, but it might create the impression of such congratulations being a "reflex" or something like a "word association" type of matter rather than something honest and heartfelt. Millions and millions of people celebrate their birthday every day and of course I don't begrudge anyone for a happy birthday, but I won't congratulate every single one of them.
