Hey all!
I thought maybe the Gang of Five could set up times to maybe play some PC games together, if we have any games or gaming interests in common.
First of all, I'll link everyone to a program called "Hamachi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en)". Basically, Hamachi will let us set up a virtual network and let us set up online games extremely easily, free of firewalls and all that clutter that gets in the way of making online gaming work properly.
https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en)
Hamachi works exactly like a home network, for those of you that have one. I have already set up the GoF Gaming network so all everyone else needs to do is connect to it. :) Once you have Hamachi and you connect to our network, the network will behave Exactly like a LAN (Local Area Network) just like we're all in the same house. This means that to play online games, we just need to start a LAN game and go! Simple as that. B)
I have already set up a network on Hamachi, with the following information:
Network name: GoFGaming
Password: PM Me if you're interested. I will give you the password. I'd just rather not have it public, for security reasons.
It is all Case-sensitive so bear that in mind when typing it in.
The network is very secure and there is no way we can hack into each others' computers so don't worry about that. All the network will really do is let us chat and appear on the same LAN together, for gaming purposes. That's it. It's by far the easiest way to get online gaming to work these days though, with all the firewalls and whatnot. Also, the lag is minimal and performance has been great, from what I've tried out with Littlefoot Fan.
Here are a few games I'd be game for pulling out:
Serious Sam (any of them. I have all of them).
Diablo 2 (Expansion preferrably)
Unreal Tournament (any. 2004 preferred.) I have some great game modes for UT 2004 for a lot of people, if we can get a few people interested (including 4-team Capture the Flag, which is Awesome)!
Turok 2
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
Halo
Anything else that anyone can think of.
If anyone is interested in playing Serious Sam or any UT game (except UT 3) but you don't have the game, let me know and we'll figure something out. :)
-
I would love if we could all get together and play some games together! Great idea Action! :D
-
I'm not much of a PC gamer (purely because my computer doesn't like it's processor being tested :DD ), the only respectable PC game I've got atm is FEAR. I could link up with that but that's about it sadly. I've heard of hamachi before. I used a similar program when I took my PSP online...I used KAI which is pretty much a rival brand name of the same thing.
Still, I'm always game for a game ;)
-
I've never played any game online so have no idea what it's like, apart from some of the stuff one of the podcast hosts of gfw has talked about doing that is funny to him.
The only game I have on your list is Serious Sam 2nd encounter and the demo of the first Serious Sam, that seems to enjoy crashing at odd times, and I think the demo of Serious Sam 2, which I didn't like much. I am terrible, which is why I stick with offline, and don't have any friends really who play games online.
-
dont ask me,
-
I only have Halo from that list.
-
Hmm... I've got all the Doom games, XIII, Quake II, Rise of the Triad, just off the top of my head... Hmm... But, I can't go with Doom III, because my web machine doesn't have enough RAM at the moment - or a suitable graphics card, though that may change soon... Plus, I DO prefer co-op mode - Last Man Standing mod, anyone? And, I can't do it yet anyway, being over at my aunt's house and all... So, if I ever make it back home - someday I will - then I just might be able to play some Doom with some of you - Cancerian Tiger, do you still have it? I know that you posted something about Doom in one of the gaming threads. (I also have several Doom source ports, so, anything Doom, I'm fair game; it's all I really tend to play that you can go online with... But my skills seem to have degraded. Ever since I first played Doom III...)
-
Anyone have StarWars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy?
-
Sounds like fun.
Only problem is that I don't have any of those games for PC, and I'm using a laptop anyways. Though when Starcraft 2 comes out, I'll probably be playing that... :P:
-
Im up for UT2004 and Diablo II! I love D2, used to play it so much.
-
Hmm, I've also got WarCraft III... Ya know, my experience with Internet gaming has been limited to a simple game of Chess - that I lost, nonetheless... It would be fun for me... So, no one else has Doom, then?
-
Ahh, Warcraft III....I suck at it but I'm willing to give it a go. :p
Same with Starcraft...again, I suck at it but I'm game if we can get some people in!
As for Doom...I have Doom 3 but none of the previous versions.
-
i suck at W3, but i don't actually own the game, my brother has it. But i'll be up for a game of Starcraft, though i not to great either :DD .
-
Hmm... Doom 3 could be a problem if I don't get the graphics card thing sorted out, and the RAM... I'll see if I can't pick up one pretty soon... What about you, Cancerian Tiger? (Dang. I think she logged off already...) Hmm, after talking with my dad, I think that the one he gave me can support a gig of RAM, so I'll upgrade both machines soon. Hopefully I can get enough money together to do this... I'd like to play the Last Man Standing mod, since I don't like deathmatch. (Hmm, I'm also still making Doom levels, though not as actively as I used to.)
-
The only Game I have played online this time was Quake 3 Arena. But gaming with GoF Members, that sounds like Fun!! :DD
Here are a few Games I have:
S.t.a.l.k.e.r
Quake 3 and 4
Paraworld
All Dooms
Crysis
Unreal Tournament 2004
Call of Duty Series
Gears of War ( Co Op mode would be fun ) :DD
-
All right, Loofah! Someone who has all the Dooms! :lol That would be fun, if I could figure out how to set up co-op mode! (After all, deathmatch is not something I'm a fan of.) We'd have to agree on what source port we'd be using, too, which shouldn't be a problem. (Of course, I can't do it yet...)
-
Remember, anyone on our Hamachi server can play with anyone else! I don't have to be at my computer in order for anyone else to play. It should be possible to connect to this server and play together without me, even if my computer is off.
-
Anyone have StarWars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy?
I do! Never got around to installing it though........

It's been off my computer for a while though, Zoo Tycoon the complete collection is what's on my computer now.
-
I don't like games junking up my computer though. I'll never install another game again. The computer is for work and play other than video games. Probably why so many here have computer problems, although that's just an assumption. I don't hang around in the gaming section too much so I don't really know who the gamers are here.
-
Well, that's one of our differences then, landbeforetimelover, despite us having some things in common... Heh. I've always been a crazy Doom nut. And... I finally found a member title that suits me... (Heck, until I get around to your LBT avatar thread, my avatar is an edited pic of Gouki from Street Fighter!)
-
I have this one for internet and basic pc stuff. When I do play video games it's only on my other pc. Partially since this one is so old it can only play old games, but I like the idea of having dedicated pc's like that.
-
gee, I just have Guild Wars Nightfall^^
-
Hey, pal... Get yourself a copy of Doom, and the three of us (Loofah included) might be able to play someday soon... Like I said to you on MSN, I'll walk you through everything about setting it up; I promised to do the same thing for Loofah - well, pretty much... I didn't exactly say I'd help him, but of course I will! :P: :p
-
Dude! I love Doom! It's my favorite FPS. I'd play with ya anytime! I use Skulltag to play online.
-
Wow! Another Doom fanatic! Awesome!
I've never used Skulltag - what's that source port like?
Yeah, I haven't touched my "current" level for a while, heh... I was trying to make it compatible with all versions of Doom, without inducing the dreaded "no more visplanes" error in the DOS version, LOL! (But, who uses that version anymore? Heh!) I haven't made too many maps, per se, but, anytime I get a cool idea, I try it... (Which, hasn't been much, but, this many "hits" for Doom, inspires me to go on, and do more...!)
Do you like Doom III, or do you even play it...? Or own it...? I can't play it online yet, though...
And... I can't do any of this stuff until I get my computer up and running over HERE. I'd love to Doom with the three of you! Hey, wonder if Cancerian Tiger still has it? That would rule if we had a source port that can accomodate more than four players! (But, I gotta warn ya, I don't like Deathmatch; I don't see a purpose in it...) ...Maybe, we can corroborate on a cool level design, or something; something that REQUIRES cooperation from all four players, yeah? Maybe that would be fun... Hu, hu! I can't wait! :D
-
Does anyone else have Unreal Tournament 2004, other then Tim?
-
...Not here, sorry...
-
Does anyone else have Unreal Tournament 2004, other then Tim?
I wish I could help more people get ahold of it, but we all know why I can't do that. :p
-
I'd probably get all these awesome FPS games but my lappy is just not gamer friendly <_< It's running on a chipset rather than a proper graphics card so my gameplay for PCs is limited. Once I get the money, I'm ditching my laptop for a desktop again (seeing as uni days are long gone now :^.^: ). Looks like I stand alone with FEAR as an online game. I'd recommend it for anyone with a low(ish) spec computer coz it doesn't ask that much of your machine. It's the only FPS my lappy can handle anyway :DD :P:
-
UT2004 isn't very demanding on the lower-end graphics settings. I have an economy system that can run it in low graphics details perfectly fine.

Granted....but I bet your machine doesnt run on a chipset  I'm willing to give it a go but given my recent luck with PC games, they normally dont work out for me. They must be able to smell the console scent before I even purchase the ruddy things! :lol
-

It's got a Radeon 9550 video card...ancient bugger! Not much better than a modern chipset, if *any* better. :p

:lol :lol
If you want to see me die a horrible death many times over, play a console shooter with me! :P: I just can't get the hang of em!
Geez, LF1616, I've barely run into you at all lately! Times just aren't lining up, are they?
I'm probably out for this weekend...I'll be at work at all hours remotely close to when I'd see you, until Monday. :(
I've got Turok for the PS3 if anyone's game for some shoot-em-up goodness.
-

I hear that. Mind you I've had a little trouble with net connections recently. Thought there was something up with our net provider...it turned out that my dad had smashed the junction box that links our phone line and broadband line together :lol Smooth move Pops! :DD Also, I've had a bit of a rough time with the job at the moment. Seriously need to jump ship from the shoddy shack I'm in right now but there appears to be a major job drought in my area.
Anyway, all that dumb-foolery aside, I replied to the thread on GOF matches so check that out. Looks like we may just get our gamign sesh one way or another buddy! :^.^: All others are welcome to join in as always.
I've got Turok for the PS3 if anyone's game for some shoot-em-up goodness.
Sorry dude. That's one FPS for PS3 I don't actually own! I rarity I know. I played a demo of it from the Playstation Network but I didnt think much of it. mind you it wasn't the finished article and I'm always willing to try out new games. Seeing how awesome the Turok series was back in the day! ;)
-
...Yeah, Turok was pretty good... But, after my "gamesave freakout" with my PS2 - due to some stupid mistakes I made - I just gave it all away... So, strictly PC for me... And, on that note...
I FINALLY HAVE MY COMPUTERS WITH ME AGAIN! YES! So... If anybody's "game for Doom," then let's do some Dooming! Chat with me on MSN about it... Go ahead, if I'm not on your list, then add me! We'll see what we can do! ...Source ports? I might be going with Skulltag - thanks for the tip, KingdomKey23! And I'll see you on there, too! ;)
-
Awesome, man! My MSN account is the same as my yahoo account. Just drop me a line when you wanna go a few rounds. Not tonight though, I'm tired. Any other time is fine. See ya.
-
Okay... Yeah, I've already added you to my MSN contact list, KingdomKey23! I'll let you know!
EDIT: Don't worry; I need to brush up on my Doom skills anyway! It's been a while since I really sat down to just play it, LOL...
-
Hey whens the next time your available to play Tim? You might notice that me and Littlefoot Fan tried to get a game of D2 going but you weren't responding on Hamachi.
-
I was actually there but I didn't notice the messages from Hamachi until it was too late. :(
I changed my Hamachi settings to pop up a message right in front of my face when one is sent to me, so that shouldn't happen again. :p
Sorry about that. :bang
-
heh, no problem. We just gotta find the time when all three of us are online at the same time.
-
Oh, and guys, I set up Hamachi a few days ago, BTW. So, you may see me online sometimes, and yet, you may not... I'll be under the same name there as here! ;)
-
Boy... This attempt kinda blew out, didn't it...? I'm running my faster computer now though, so I can play Doom III online... (Back to one machine... One is enough...) Got tired of that other one... :p (Am not currently running Hamachi yet, however...)
The extent of my Internet gaming has been expanded, though - I recently had the honor of gaming with Iris over MSN... A great honor, it was...
-
If anyone here interested in playing one of this games online, i might be able to help:
Wofenstein: Enemy Territory, Alien VS. Predator 2, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, MMORPG Perfect World(Official english server), Exteel or Sega Mega Drive games, using Kega Fusion emulator. :yes
-
As much as I would like playing online games with you guys, I pretty much don't have any online games with me. The only ones I have that are online are MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars and World of Warcraft, all three which I don't play anymore.
