Title: Episode Themes
Post by: Sky on May 12, 2008, 10:18:50 AM
Since I ran out of ideas what to draw next, I came up with this:
I will try to draw a themed picture of every LBT episode that was aired. Yep, all 26 eps. ^_^
That makes 26 pictures.

Status:
[8/26]

Finished episode pictures: =)

The Hermit of Blackrock (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/The-Hermit-of-Blackrock-85455418)
The Forbidden Friendship (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/The-Forbidden-Friendship-85531181)
The Canyon of Shiny Stones (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/The-Canyon-of-Shiny-Stones-85900742)
Stranger from the Mysterious Above (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/Stranger-from-the-Myst-Above-85902060)
March of the Sand Creepers (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/March-of-the-Sand-Creepers-86365925)
Through the Eyes of a Spiketail (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/Through-theEyes-of-a-Spketail-86642802)
The Mysterious Tooth Crisis (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/The-Mysterious-Tooth-Crisis-88837802)
The Lonely Journey (http://hakunaro.deviantart.com/art/The-Lonely-Journey-88837838)

[size0]Note: I'm using often screenshots from episodes to draw these.

It looks really good, but you might want to practice a little more with drawing wings from that angle.  The image looks sorta flat there.

Ya, I know.
Wings can be really hard sometimes. =/

Very good drawing.  I like it and the idea.  Maybe the colorist was very tired, or a bit color blind.

I really like the second picture.  Did it take you a long time to draw the picture or get an idea of what you would draw and who would be where?  They seem alive and fluid and not stiff at all.

Post by: Sky on May 13, 2008, 08:42:10 AM
Glad you guys like it. :^.^:

@Kor
It didn't take that long. But it is kinda hard to place the characters in a fitting spot.
But I think I can handle it. ^_^

I really like the motive idea of one image per episode. "The hermit of Black Rock" is one of those episodes which I have not seen yet.
I saw that in your DA remarks about the picture you also remarked on the green skies in the series. I think the first time we got those deep green skies was in LBT 8. I think there may be meteorologic conditions which may give a sky (or part of it) a greenish hue, but they are exaggerating it in the some LBT movies.
I love the Forbidden Friendship drawing.
Tops and the Stegosaurus leader make a good contrast to Spike and Tippy.

Hey, thanks guys.

@The Chronicler
It only took a day because I started with the second pic right away.  (lol it rhymed xD)
And because I had a "longer weekend".  :^.^:

I have currently finished four drawings. All I need to do is the coloring.  :^.^:

I wish I could say anything more help- and useful Sky, but you are putting the critics to shame by leaving nothing to criticize (in the sense of constructive criticism). Your pictures are just a pleasure to look at and I am really, really nobody to just flatter anyone for the sake of politeness.

Is there an order to how you choose episodes to draw, or is it at random?

It's more of a random choice. ^^

I was curious if you did a random choice or had some other system.  You are doing very well.

kjeldo: Not one of your favorites?  Oh well; to each his own...  Myself, I like all the episodes and movies equally, without restraint...  ...Meh...  It all comes down to choice, preference...

EDIT: Myself, I was FLOORED by that episode...  It absolutely blew me away, like a rocket launcher!   After seeing that one, I've actually come up with a few theories about Spike...

Hello:
You already know what I think Sky, I think I am a bit of jealous too, but in no in a bad way :DD . Well, then again I have never tried to go deep in this cool thing of drawings, but I am sure I'm no match for you.
I have a little suggestion for you Sky, what if, when you are finish with the serie, you do the same for the movies? you may come with far better drawings than the ones we see on the movies' covers.

I guess there is nothing wrong at all with the kind of jealousy that is in the thought "I wish I could create pictures like that!"
In this form (without any grudge in it) jealousy is a kind of admiration but does not begrudge the artist anything at all. I can definitely be put down on the list of those "jealouses"  who could sign the "I wish I could do that!" ;)
I think however that most of us actually CAN if they work enough on themselves and on their art and Sky has been very kind in sharing some of his knowledge on how to deal with photoshop thereby making it easier for the rest of us :)

One can increase one's drawing skill, though it does take time and diligence as well as patience.  One can try to draw regularly, a few times a week at least.  That may be a good start.

Yeah, true there guys. :^.^:

For me, who just recently got into this thing with drawing, Sky has been a great help! Thanks again mate, your tips have helped me alot!  :yes
Also, as an artist, I belivie that you can learn from looking and obeserving other artist's works. But that's the thing with anything isn't it?  :)

Now I'm crazy, I draw all the time I get to, the good thing is that I belive one will improve with every drawing they complete!  :yes
I find it soo fun!

I can imagine drawing is fun.  Creating something, drawing your favorite characters, or ones of your own making, or a mix of the two, and making up your own stories, even if it is just a sentence of what is going on in the picture.

Nice pictures, I like both of them.  Chomper does look to be in trouble in the second one.  In the first, I like it, but there seems to be no missing tooth in Chomper's mouth.

Both pictures are well drawn and the characters easily recognizable as to who they are suppose to be with a very good attention to detail.  Thanks for sharing the pictures here, you are a very skilled artist.
