I'd help if I could, but being a PS3 owner, not an X-Box 360 owner, I'm not very knowledgeable on the X-Box.
I have heard of red lights of death before, however I don't know how to interpret them. Have you called their support line?

I heard that, if you see the red ring of death, that's the end of the machine. It won't work anymore after that. But I never owned one so I don't know for sure.
You sure it was the red ring of death? How many lines were lit up? 3 or 4?

I think if you get the Red Rings of Death there's nothing you can do for it other than sending it in to Microsoft for repairs if it's still under warrant.

The ring of death typically means that some component on the mainboard has failed. Unless you have replacement parts and can re-attach integrated components on the mainboard, there's not much you can do. The XBOX 360 doesn't have any failsafe mechanisms to prevent the whole thing from going up in smoke so if you ever get the ring of death, it's because somethings already blown on it. I don't know if you can get a new mainboard off ebay or something, but if you can, you should try. Microsoft will screw you for all you're worth.

I and my friend sometimes fix that problems using some tricks that we found over the internet, just dont try them if your 360 stills on warranty. MS extended the warranty in some models from 1 to 3 years in old versions. If yours is recently well just 1 year. You can ask them anyway.
This sometimes fix the problem temporary http://youtube.com/watch?v=31tvXu34T8Q (http://youtube.com/watch?v=31tvXu34T8Q) Towel trick. I found major problems with the video card chip, it overheats a lot. Sometimes we weld the chip using a heat gun. Sometimes works sometimes not.
Good luck with your 360.

This is why I still haven't gotten a 360. I've wanted to for a while, but I was afraid something like this would happen. Good luck to ya.

Very interesting article, but I think most of the stuff was pretty obvious...at least to me. Just confirmed my suspicions. I won't be buying a 360 anytime soon.
