Title: Everything's Back To Normal
Post by: landbeforetimelover on July 06, 2008, 05:21:12 AM
Well, no one here knows this, but I have been living horribly the past 2 days.  I went up to my aunts place and the car broke down.  That's not a problem.  We were bringing it to a specialist to get it fixed anyways.  What I didn't know is that we were going to have to spend 2 days at my aunts while a part came in!  Well, my aunt offered us some storage so I decided to bring my ancient collectible IBM computer up there to store.  Little did I know it would be my only computer for the next few days! :wow Here are it's specs:

66mhz Pentium processor

4mb ram

20mb hard disk

Windows 95

16.6k fax modem for internet (or something like that)

Well, I knew I couldn't go a day without logging onto GOF, so I got to work setting it up.  Do you have any idea how long it takes to load GOF's home page going at 2kbps!!!!????     Stream a youtube video?  In your dreams! I used this computer to set up a remote connection to my server to utilize it's processing power and storage, but it was still a 2kbps connection!  I checked local weather conditions for the next few days and found out that Bellingham was having a storm....a big one so I had to find a way to remotely shut off my server.  God, that was fun. :bang I had to use internet explorer 4 and I couldn't download anything (not just because of the slow 2kbps connection, but also because I had a 20mb hard disk!).  Now I can start doing something again!  Sorry I haven't been very active lately.  This is why. -_-

At least you are back home now.  If you do frequent travel maybe you need a laptop, unless you already have one, or a pda or something.

I remember web surfing back in those days when the modems were not 56k but slower.  I had to turn off the images so the web page would load faster, and the sound also.

This just goes to show that laptops are best when traveling. :)

To bad you were caught by surprise and had to make do for 2 days.
Certainly handier then hauling around a desktop, monitor, mouse, keyboard, on a vacation.   :yes
