Just a few days ago I bought a BRAND NEW HP computer for $968 and it can't even run windows vista. I posted a google video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3043735455283619097 (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3043735455283619097)
Specs of this computer are:
AMD Phenom 9550 core 2 quad processor running at 2.2ghz
5gb DDR2 RAM running at 800mhz
750gb hard drive
Windows Vista Home Premium :mad
512mb graphics
It's just insane! I'll bet a supercomputer still couldn't run vista right. :bang

I'll bet a supercomputer still couldn't run vista right. :bang
I seriously doubt that it would take a supercomputer to run Vista properly.
-
No. I honestly don't think any computer can run vista properly. It's a DRM infested slime ball. It's totally unstable and treats you like a criminal right out of the box.
-
Even the military wouldn't use vista! It's just a bug on a windshield compared to XP and XP lite.
-
"even the military" PAH! NO BUSINESSES will switch to vista! My school bought all new computers with vista and the admin removed vista and put xp onto them. Smart move. Probably the only smart move he's ever made. Well........maybe it wasn't too smart because they're all illegal copies. :lol I wondered how he got the school to agree to buy a $300 disk for every computer they bought when the computers they bought only cost $900. When I checked, I accidentally removed the crack the admin applied and it told me to activate windows. I quickly turned the computer off and switched computers. :p

Microsoft made a huge mistake to release Vista so quickly. They should have waited and made it completely stable. However, they wanted to compete with Mac OS X Leopard, which IS a stable OS.
Score
Apple: 1
Microsoft: 0

I have this CONFIRMED by MS workers. Vista is just a beta version of windows 7. According to these MS workers, the last step to completing an OS is compressing and optimizing its performance. MS didn't do a lot of this with Vista. They just sealed off windows 7 because mac had produced 3 different OS's since the release of xp and they were feeling the pressure and wanted money. They just sealed off what they had done of windows 7 and called it windows vista. What they produced was an unstable piece of crap that can't run on anything (well, that and an angry mob of people at the MS HQ). This is why Vista requires more than 30 times the ram that xp does. They didn't optimize the OS hardly at all. That's why windows 7 will require around 256mb ram, a 500mhz processor, and a 4gb hard drive. MS will blame it on the minwin kernel when in fact it's just because windows 7 will be done RIGHT. What a joke.
Oh, and yes windows 7 will run perfectly fine on it's minimum system requirements which is something vista definitely doesn't do. 5gb of ram and it's still a slug. :bang

Hehe...piece of flying turd. :p The only reason I knew this was definitely you in the video was that background desktop image.
-
Vista is a five letter word in my household.
My computer is a lower end one and it runs XP perfectly. I don't even want to imagine what Vista will do to it.
-

Oh yeah. I just added it because I had nothing else at the time. It's really just made for clients. :p I couldn't stand the vista backgrounds. They're so..........flashy and non-functional. Just like Vista itself. -_-

Yeah. Unless you've got at least 2gb of ram and a dual core processor, be prepared for crashes every 5 minutes and 20 minute start up times. :p If you've got an awesome machine like mine, expect crashes every hour or so and 5 minute startup times. Yeah, yeah I know it didn't take 5 minutes to start on the video but that's because there's nothing on it yet. I installed xp lite on this machine and boot time was 8 seconds (after the raid status screen). I'm not joking! After I got everything installed, startup time jumped to about 25 seconds. I decided to reinstall vista because I figured it could handle it. Boy was I wrong. I want to like vista. I really do.....but I can't like an OS that doesn't even run properly on a $1,000 computer. -_-
Hehe...piece of flying turd.
Yeah, I know that was lame, but I really wanted to say something else. :lol It's hard not to swear when working with vista, especially when you see your computer immediately crash the instant you try to do something.
-
Lol I just watched your clip. Ya know my mom has got vista on the laptop I am typing on now. She hasn't faced any problems yet. But I just discovered that it just has 2GB of RAM xD and it's processor is AMD turion 64 x2 virtual machine tl-60 2.00 GHz
Though, I never really noticed it was slow. That is probably because I never had a fast computer :p I actually think it loads stuff okay. I don't really have an opinion on vista myself, because I hear so many negative things while I don't experience them.
-
That's the problem with people. They have xp for 5 years or so and it gets clogged up and pretty much hosed. Then they get a vista computer and they're like "wow, this is fast!" when in fact it's just not filled with garbage and 5 years of use. Format your 5 year old machine with xp and it'll run a million times faster than your brand new vista computer. :p

Same here. My old XP computer runs on less than 1GB. :wow Now that's slow. I hate it. 735 MB to be exact.
These new ones, any of them, even with or without Vista, is like science fiction machines to me. :P:
EDIT: Yeah, see your point.
-

I did with my own computer, but actually it runs on about thesame speed. One is not faster or slower. I guess my own computer would be slower if it had internet on it with the virusscanner and all :p But for now they're about thesame.
-
1gb isn't bad for windows xp. Heck, if you buy a brand new $300 computer it's only got a gig of ram. A couple of my machines run on 1gb and they're really fast. XP is an extremely efficient operating system. It actually leaves some resources for programs instead of eating them all up making cool effects with the windows and start button.
I did with my own computer, but actually it runs on about thesame speed.
Screw around with msconfig. You can get that computer loads faster than just about any vista machine.
-
Ok, I'll try something. I don't use my XP PC for anything. And the content of it, I can store it away somewhere else. So, no damage done, right?
Maybe I should erase everything and start it up again completley with XP. Or any other XP OS.
You think that could do any use?
It has been around for some years. I've lost my navigation trough all Sh*t that's contained inside that thing.
-
Hehe if you could help me make it faster that'd be appreciated :p Though I'm quite happy the way it is.
-
@ Lillefot: I gave you the link to my copy of xp lite SP3. Just install that thing and you'll be running faster than anything on the market when doing regular tasks.
@Mumbling: Just go to start, run, and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Then go to the services tab and select "Hide all Microsoft Services". The remaining services are safe and can be disabled. Be careful though. Some things like your printer have entries in there to allow them to print correctly. Just look for useless stuff like anything to do with messenger or other programs you don't use. Then go over to the startup tab and deselect anything you don't think you need. If you don't know what it is, DON'T deselect it. Just find something useless and get rid of it. That'll speed up your startup time significantly.

BTW, here's one of the computers I have in my office. It only has a gig of ram and it runs great:

Of course it also has a 3.2ghz processor with hyperthreading. :p
-
Okay, thank you :) I haven't got a printer though, but I guess this counts for more hardware, so I do understand what you mean. I'll try it in some minutes.
-

Okay. Thanks, mate! Will get to it as soon as work here's done.
Sigh... back to the 13 hour download. /hysterical laughter
Here's the specs of my work's (camping) PC. Just for fun. It runs quite okay.
But, the only thing we use it for is:
-The booking system
-Word
-Exel
-Internet
That's mostly it. :lol
-
Just add a gig of ram and maybe a new HD (I'm guessing your existing one is only 30-40gb) and it'll be fine. Celeron processors really suck but that doesn't really matter for everyday use.
-
I was acctually planing to buy 1,5 GB RAM today, before going to work. That would give me a total of about 2 GB RAM.
Ofcourse, as always when I plan to buy something, they were out.
Can't blame them too much though, awsome store. They have loads of stuff, and are cheap as *! :wow
Love ya ENTER Data! B)
-
Just make sure it can handle 2gb. Just go to www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) and look up the model. It'll tell you its max memory expansion and they also provide the cheapest ram I've ever been able to find.
-
I have to agree Vista sucks compared to the XP versions. After 6 months of use and finally paying off all the bills, my laptop isn't looking so hot, despite doing all of the crazy things you can to make it run faster. There's just not much room for argument on my part. Might as well change the OS on it.
-
I guess faster is subjective...what hardcore tasks does the computer have to do that it isn't fast enough?
-
Hardcore tasks. Try just opening firefox without getting the blue screen of death. Next try notepad. Oh yeah. That'll freeze the thing so bad you have to forcefully turn it off. :bang
My new vista laptop freezes constantly. The worst thing is how hard it is to get to the task manager. You do ctrl+alt+del and you get this stupid multimedia window. Then you click on task manager and it never comes up. :bang :bang :bang :bang Oh sure it'll come up fine if the computer isn't frozen, but the only time you need to open it is when the computer is having troubles!

THe thing I hate most about VIsta is that they changed everything. On XP, I at least knew where everything wat. On Vista, I'm totally lost. Why do they have to move everything around so you have to hunt for it? I know someone at school who claims that Vista was actually created by Satan to torment humanity. I hate it because it won't run any of my old games. It's just like Micro$oft's Xbox 360 not playing certain Xbox games.
-
They move everything around so they can sell us a bloated version of xp with a new skin and call it a "new and improved" operating system. If everything was in the same place, everyone would see that vista is just xp with bloated security features and a new skin. I guess MS figures we're not smart enough to see what they're doing if they just move things around and make a new startup sound. What they've done is released the next version of windows that was scheduled to be released in 2009 2 years earlier because they wanted money and apple had already released 3 new OS's. Windows vista is just a pre-beta version of windows 7. It's an incomplete unstable version of an OS that was released 2 years early.
