Recently Vista has deactivated itself on me, and the key on my laptop's casing isn't recognised as valid. I've backed everything I need to up by deliberatly bombing it out and then booting up in Safe Mode so no worries there. I've tried http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5549C98D-421A-4F77-97F3-4E82A4D6471B&displaylang=en) but that refuses to do anything and I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help would be...well...helpful. Otherwise I'll take it down to the local computer shop and get them to have a look at it.
Thanks in advance.

Apologies for double-posting, but I've fixed the problem with the help of an automated 'phone service. Still got a "This copy of Windows is not genuine" watermark in the corner but hey.

Yeah, about 20% of the time my clients come in with new vista machines that say they're illegal. It's just stupid. That's why when I buy a copy of vista, I put an illegal one on my machines. They deactivate less often than legal ones.

Hmm. I never heard of this happening with Vista before. I guess I should keep my eyes open with my computer then.

Maybe another reason for some to flush Vista down the toilet and try another os like Xp, or Linux. I wonder what the Angry Video Game Nerd would do if he did a video about Vista.

Hehe...I just installed Vista SP 1 and it completely screwed up my laptop. I was forced into performing a system restore. I had hopes for that service pack....

I've stopped Windows updates altogether because they break things in my laptop. One update fries my dvd drive. Its so hard to know what each item will do when you mass install and I don't have time to go through all this stuff one by one.
Yeah, I know, Mr. Security and "I keep my computer lean" isn't doing updates but it seems I'm running into more trouble than its worth.

What I hate most about vista is when you disable UAC, you can't get rid of the d***** notification that it's turned off unless you turn off notification for EVERYTHING. <_<
