Title: Kimba, The White Lion
Post by: pokeplayer984 on November 26, 2008, 08:20:22 PM
I've recently gotten into this series.  I always saw DVDs for it at the store for just $1 and I was curious as to what it was like.  I downloaded a few episodes. (Which after much checking with AVG, Spybot S&D and a Rootkit killer I recently got, proved them to be quite safe.) I kind of like it.  However, I only happen to like it because I have a bit of background information on it that made me go a bit easy on it.

Kimba, The White Lion, originally called Jungle Emperor, was created in 1965 in Japan and was released world wide in 1966.  It was the very first colored Anime, beating Speed Racer by one year.  It showed the potential colored animation had and paved the way for other colored Anime that would soon follow.

In fact, there is an entire website dedicated to this series.  It can be found here: http://www.kimbawlion.com/ (http://www.kimbawlion.com/) I suggest you check it out because I seriously couldn't tell it better than this could.

It's pretty good for it's time animation-wise, which is why I went easy on it there.  However, the storyline is unbelievable.  The dark parts rival that of the great 80s and early 90s cartoons that also were dark.  I enjoy dark storylines quite a bit.  I don't know why, I just do.

I suggest everyone who's interested checks it out.  Much of what you see today couldn't have been possible without it.  It is a series that is worth watching. :)

I've heard of this! I even saw a few episodes on youtube.

Personally, it's not my favorite, but like Disney's Snow White, I do like the animation for it's time.

There was a big stink around when Lion King came out that it was a copy of Kimba.  I've not see it but I heard some folks saw the series in the 60's and fondly remember the theme song.

The reason for that was because Mufasa looked alot like Ceaser, design wise.  The color was the only main difference between the two.  Aside from that, there were no other distinct similarities from the two.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with those that watched it in the 60's.  There's theme songs I remember from shows I enjoyed when I was young.

There were actually more similarities between Kimba and The Lion King than just the fact that Mufasa and Caesar looked alike.

This page explains more of the similarities: http://www.kimbawlion.com/rant2.htm (http://www.kimbawlion.com/rant2.htm)

Wow!  By now I've watched the first 10 episodes and I must admit that the creators showed improvement in one area or another with each episode so far.

Just recently they found a way to handle the subject of love quite well.  We don't see the subject of love being presented in today's shows for kids.  Yet here, they handled love by calling it "a conflict of the heart".  Why can't people come up with something clever like that these days?

It was presented quite maturely, nothing cheesy at all.  They even went back to before Kimba was born.  Yeah, the old mother and father meeting one another deal.  They even handled heartbreak well with one of the characters.

I'm telling you guys, you HAVE to watch these episodes.  In fact, to help you further, I found them on YouTube.  Check them out here: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=blacklion50&view=videos (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=blacklion50&view=videos)

Go to the VERY last page to get started with Episode 1.  This person is quite the fan.  They went to a lot of trouble to put these up.

Hope you enjoy them.  I know I will. :)

Bullshit. that page explains nothing. It twists the facts and leaves out that neither of the respective works have anything in common, hardly.
