Title: Chrome suddenly locks up
Post by: Lillefot on December 17, 2008, 04:47:17 PM
It's starting to happen more frequent these days.

I'm out on the net, minding my own buisness when Chrome suddenly stops work, just like that. No biggie, since Chrome can restore the sites you had open, but still...

Has this happened to anyone else?

Probably a compatibility issue with Vista.  Either re-install or download the portable version.

Didn't know Chrome had a portable version.  Being open-source I guess that was bound to happen soon.

I actually haven't tried the portable version of Google Chrome.  I downloaded it from pirate sources, but haven't tried it yet.  I don't think it's out for the general public yet.

If you want to make a version of Google Chrome so called "portable" just to try it out, simply insert a flash drive, make a folder called "Chrome" on the flash drive and launch the Google Chrome installer.  Then just install to the "Chrome" folder on your flash drive and run it.

But its still making registry entries, so it probably won't work the same as the actual portable builds with the code to tell the program not to write registry values.

True, true, but I don't think this has anything to do with the registry entries.  I think it's the result of a program error, which is very likely to be fixed by reinstalling and/or installing to a flash drive.

Sorry I wasn't clear.  I was responding to your method of making a portable version on your own.  No matter where you place the installation, there are still registry values written unless you get a portable version.  Its one reason I use a lot of portable software.
