There's a little problem I've got with Open Office. I've been trying to write up my story, but when I run spell checker, it shows EVERY word as being misspelled. Even ones I know are right are marked wrong.
Any suggestions here guys?

Could it be set for another language then the one you are using it in?

That would be my guess if every word is incorrect. If its not that, then you might have to reinstall it or something because something isn't installed properly.

OpenOffice has several words in my story marked as misspelled, including at least one of the names. I think this is because OpenOffice might have a slightly lower vocabulary than Microsoft Word. But as to why it's saying that all the words you are typing are mispelled, I'm not sure. Maybe Kor is correct and it's because of a language issue.

Okay, I found the problem. Apparently some of the things in the Language settings weren't enabled. Once that was done all of the usual suspects (Names being the main one.) to be marked wrong were shown as such. However, words like "realized" and "apologized" were marked wrong when ANY up to date English Dictionary would tell you it's spelled right. Heck, Google Chrome here shows it's right. -_-
Right now, I'm kinda feeling that Open Office is worse than Microsoft Word. I was SO much better off with that thing. :(

OpenOffice isn't that bad. You can easily correct the false detections by just adding the names and words to the dictionary of OpenOffice. Just right click over the word it says is mispelled, and go down to Add and select soffice. Simple as that.

I would go with MS Office if I were you. Open Office just isn't a good idea if you aren't operating linux. Contact me if you want to know how to get a great deal on Office '07. MS is desperate to sell it right now with all the piracy of their "Enterprise Edition". I got a copy of it for $29.

I'm using Open Office on my XP laptop now (too lazy to install Office 03 properly so I just downloaded Open Office). It's not perfect when handling Word documents but it's good enough that I've been able to get by with never having to do more than change the font.
It does work significantly differently so it takes a bit of getting used to, but it's a fine program nevertheless. It's good, it's just different.

What?!?! There's a problem with OpenOffice? Blasphemy!
I don't use spell-checker, because whenever I try to write a chapter to my fan-fictions, every character name and place is "misspelled."

I don't think I use Linux, and I use OpenOffice and have had no problems with it at all. I like it more than Microsoft Word.

I've never had a problem with Open Office.
