I just saw the leaked footage of this game on Youtube, in addition to the leaked concept art, and I have to say this game looks freakin' sweet. The graphics look very next-ten, and the addition of an actual story mode (putting aside BFII's 501st campaign), complete with a light or dark side choice, is pretty awesome. It's too bad the seamless land-air-space maps shown in the footage won't be in there, since Free Radical owned the rights to the code, and they just went under. Good thing Lucasarts changed it's developers over to Pandemic and Rebellion.
Anyway, has anyone else here heard about this? What do you guys think of it?
-
I'll be getting it. :yes
-
I won't be, BFII was addicting enough. I learned my lesson last time.
-
Well, IGN has declared this game dead, and seeing how Free Radical did go under, I was going to believe them, at least until I saw this:

Is there hope yet for this game? Perhaps. December 12 will be an interesting day.
-
Its dead? awww..........
-
Its dead? awww..........
Not quite. Lucasarts has a new game to unveil on December 12. Hopefully it will be BF3.

Well that is assuring

Have you heard of Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron, maybe thats the game, just watered down,I'm sure it will be great but not as great as it could've been since SW:Battlefront always seemed to work better on the consoles and PC.

I don't have a psp
-
Yeah,it's not very good. PSP Battlefront games usually aren't.

True I feel the game developers should know better.
-
Well, you have to think about it from a profit-earning point of view. Slapping the name Battlefront on a mediocre game is sure to get you some quick cash.
-
I've done some digging, and it appears Crytek, the developers of the 2007 Game of the Year Crysis, purchased Free Radical, and currently has control over all its properties, intellectual or otherwise. This means Crytek, one of the greatest up and coming game studios in the world, could actually be producing Battlefront 3! This is just an inference, mind you, but it is an exciting possibility nonetheless.
EDIT: Never mind. I spoke with a Crytek representative, and he confirmed that BF3 is not being produced by Crytek.

Yes but its going to affect future sales
-
Of course it will, but these days business rarely cares about the long term. It's sad, really. Still, there is hope for this game, and knowing how big Battlefront is, I don't think Lucasarts will deprive gamers of a big release for too long.

But that is mainly how they fall from grace
-
True, but again, businesses rarely care about the long term. BF3's only hope is the Spike VGAs on December 12. If it's announced, then we will finally have another really cool Star Wars game.
-
If not Lucas will have to deal with a big wave of disappointment.
-
Yes, but Lucasarts has faced disappointment many times before. I don't think they're too concerned about what gamers want, or they wouldn't have made Star Wars Galaxies so dull, or they would have polished BF2 more. Again, it's really all about profits.
-
Despite if they make the game or not isn't a big deal for me...it all depends on the amount of time and content they put into it. If they make this game bigger and better than BFII then, I'll probably babble on for weeks about the game before it hits store (When a date is announced that is). However if they drop the ball and make it less than worth my time then it will be quickly forgotten.
But nothing is set in stone yet and I am looking forward to the VGA on December 12 without a doubt hoping that they have some news on this potential gaming gem.
-
Right you are, GVG. If Lucasarts puts the level of effort into BF3 that they put into the Battlefront spinoffs on the PSP, then the game isn't going to be worth it.
-
Lucasarts is currently in the green but I guess its fine as long as it works out.
-
Well, we'll have to see. This new project also could be a new title in the X-wing series, and according to one Lucasarts employee, "We don't have any announcements now, but stay tuned. We will soon….." (Kotaku.com)
Also, it may be a new Rogue Squadron game, since Factor 5 is working on an unnamed project for Lucasarts.
-
Likely. But I don't want that :(
-
Why not? Rogue Squadron was pretty cool. It may not be Battlefront, but it's not bad or anything.
-
I prefer clones to rebels.
-
Ah. I personally am cool with any faction, as long as the experience is great, though I do enjoy the Jedi more than the Sith.
-
Personally I would fight along any faction, but I prefer the sith over the jedi.
-
Really? I really don't feel as much accomplishment completing a Sith game as I do a game where I play a Jedi.
-
I prefer jedi as sith look as though they have cancer.
-
Well yeah, the Sith way of living is self-destructive. It's only fitting that they look like they're being eaten from the inside.
-
That is true, but that is also where the fun factor comes in, especially with games like Battlefront, and KOTOR...you can choose from the very beginning, or if you want, try to play both sides during one game and see what happens. Although I will admit, the Jedi have far more color variety in their lightsabers.
-
I personally prefer the Sith because the Sith characters are generally cooler and much more badass than the regular Jedi. Darth Maul, Darth Vader, etc... Although I will say Mace Windu is my favorite of all the Jedi characters.
-
I don't know, I think the Sith badassery is mostly show. In the end, they all get served by Jedi who don't even need to flaunt it. They're just that awesome.
But yeah, I agree with you, GVG. The games where you get to choose are the most fun. I remember the original Jedi Knight being the first example of this.
-
By the way, while they had the project, Free Radical actually began work on Battlefront IV. Here's some concept art:

Is Team Gizka done with their restoration yet?
-
Yep, they're done with KOTOR II.
By the way, this was my 1000th post!
-
Congrats on your 1000th post thingy Jedi. How is everyone doing? I found out something that I never knew before, but I'm sure that you guys are well aware of it lol, Darth Vader is really Anakin Skywalker. I always wondered what he was really under that mask, but I know now. I still have to watch the other star wars movie's but I study on it some in Star Wars Wikipedia. :)
-
I just saw the SW Battlefront 4 concept art and wooooow, it looked amazing, one thing I really want in battlefront is to have Kyle Katarn as a playable hero.
-
So Team Gizka quit on it?
-
So Team Gizka quit on it?
What, on KOTOR II? No, I think they finished.

There isn't a download.

Well, Battlefront 3 wasn't announced, but that's OK. I was actually thinking about asking everyone who's interested if we could have a Battlefront 2 session over the Internet. I figure we'd use an established server, like Jedi Battle Area. Any thoughts?

I have it for PS2 but I don't have a PSN account.

I only own the PC version, by the way.

Gamestop has confirmed Battlefront II is still being developed, as evidenced by this article:
http://www.battlefront3.net/2009/12/gamest...in-development/ (http://www.battlefront3.net/2009/12/gamestop-headquarters-confirms-battlefront-3-is-in-development/)
I really hope this game will be good.
