Title: Serious Desktop Problem
Post by: pokeplayer984 on March 24, 2009, 04:53:29 PM
I am currently on my laptop, but there's a problem with my Desktop.

Here's the following problems:

Can't connect to internet, despite Disabling it then Enabling it.

Can't uninstall internet connection to reformat internet connection.

Can't detect Flash Drives or my External Hard Drive.

Won't run AVG, Spybot, etc.

-------------

Yeah, that's the problem.

Before getting booted off I was just downloading some programs from Download.com and such.

Seriously though, what happened?

The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of malware that may have been on whatever you downloaded on Download.com. There are types of malware that can block antimalware programs from running, I believe, and others that can disconnect the internet, among other things. A friend of mine had a rogue antivirus on their computer and it had disconnected her from the internet.

My only suggestions would be either try booting in safe mode and see if your antimalware programs can run (safe mode may disable some malware) or doing a quick restore or a complete reformat.

Okay, I did come up with the idea of going into Safe Mode and the scans are working now.  We'll just see what pops up.

Hopefully one of your antimalware programs will find whatever is causing the problem. If not, maybe someone else, maybe LBTLover, can think of something.

Apparently, something infected the registry of my files.  That's why they weren't working.

Problem solved. :)
