I was checking out some videos on YouTube when I stumbled across what is indeed the very FIRST FPS in gaming history.
It's Battlezone on Atari 2600.

I'm not really sure that's an FPS game. The guy says that it reminds him of an FPS, but I don't think he confirms it was.
The game seems more like a third person than FPS.

Actually, according to multiple sources after doing a little Google Search, they show that it's classified as a FPS.

I wouldn't technically class this as a FPS but it definitely holds within it the mechanics of what we would later define as the first person shooter genre. Amazing to see how far games have come since then. Looking at this and the looking at something like Halo or Call of Duty...wondrous! :D
