This was a hard decision by me, but within a few months I plan to leave YouTube for good. The place is just getting bad. Yes, I understand the rules of copyright. I UNDERSTAND THEM!! However, it just doesn't help that we don't get to enjoy some great stuff that people have gone to the trouble of creating. It's obvious that they are talented and the one purpose behind it is for people to enjoy what they have created, but it doesn't help when YouTube officials are muting or deleting the videos you made.
Heck, you guys know the issue with Land Before Time. My videos are slowly getting deleted from YouTube. It's an obvious fact that they might just shut my account down one day. Yet, we love these videos and we don't want them to disappear.
For that purpose, I'll finally be creating a website for them. No more YouTube. Sure, I'll try to put them up at other places like Google Video just to let people know that they are still around and to point out where to find them all, but YouTube will never be one of them again. EVER!
YouTube once brought me in because of it's greatness, but it's slowly turning into crap. It doesn't deserve my videos. Not anymore.
Expect the website's official appearance in June, and deletion of all the videos I put on YouTube by July.
Until then, see ya later! :)
-
I'm not sure Google Video is a good idea. I've had to delete practically all my videos from there because they were slowly being taken down one by one. And unlike YouTube, which will not always remove a video if it's detected, Google will always remove if it detects something, from my experience.
-

Well, there are others out there. I'll try them all, but YouTube has lost that favor completely.
I was just using Google Video as an example.
-
No matter which site you use, there will always be copyright issues, far as I'm concerned. The videos would not always be detected right away and removed; but any site you use, there will always be that risk, from what I experienced.
However, some sites you could try are:
MegaVideo-I've heard they don't have as strict of a management as YouTube and thus things end up staying up longer.
Vidilife-Slow, but a pretty obscure site from what I've seen and this obscurity allows videos to stay up longer; I've never had a video removal issue here.
Veoh-Not sure how well known this is, but it allows for any size file and any length file to be uploaded, there is no limit.

I'll keep those in mind, thanks. :)
-
You're welcome. :)
-
Veoh requires their own player (at least I've been told so) and it seems very shady. I would avoid them.
-
Well I've uploaded videos to Veoh and have never had an issue with them.

Exactly. Copyright is copyright. The only reason any other sites would be less picky is because they don't get the traffic that youtube gets. I dunno, as soon as we start giving away anything that's supposed to be purchased (like licenced music or movies), I honestly can't say I blame companies for wanting to control the delivery of their products.
Legally, whe one buys a movie, they are allowed to show it for free in their homes. They are still not allowed to take a projecter outside and show the entire neighbourhood the movie for free (for private use, not for public forum). That's effectively what youtube is doing so often, but on an even larger scale.
-

I wish I could offer you my server Pokeplayer. I really wish I could. It's just I can't knowingly harm LBT no matter how many of my friends would love to see all the movies. :( LBT is in a bad enough position right now without the 100% piracy of all their movies and tv episodes.

Despite this, I'll still put up the link to download the videos that you had me put up there. After all, people will want to know where to download all the great vids, right? ;) (Seriously, you have NO idea of the exact number of people you've helped.)
-
(Seriously, you have NO idea of the exact number of people you've helped.)
Oh but I do. :p I'm the admin of that server remember? Just in the past week (literally 7 days) my server has gotten 194,130 hits. :lol That's an average of 27,733 hits per day! :o :D

I don't understand this...
Sure there are the laws of copyright, but what's the big deal about fan-made materials? Ain't it credit for the real company/people/whatever behind it?
In the case of LBT, Universal.
If you don't claim that you own any of the used materials, clearly giving the rights to Universal and/or the artist who made the music, and only creating a video just out of plain fandom, then what's the big idea?
-
I don't understand this...
Okay, this is way off topic, but I'll explain this to you Lillefot. The owners and heads of Universal Studios aren't like you and me. They're narcissists with no understanding of anyone or anything else except themselves and their own desires. They are incapable of understanding why we want to create fan materials and share them. They really don't care. All they can see is potential loss in their profits. It doesn't matter if you give credit to them. They still view it as you took and edited their material and now people will get to see part of the thing that they're selling for free. People like this sicken me. Unfortunately the world is filled with them. Almost every owner of a large business is a narcissist. Walmart for example. All they do is take take take and they give NOTHING in return. They support shipping our jobs to other countries and even though the owner has more money than he can ever spend in his lifetime.....more money than even his great great great great great great great great grandson/daughter can spend in their lifetime....he'll still screw his customers right and left for a single penny. This is the same for all large businesses and the same with production companies such as Universal Studios. These people aren't really people. That's why regular people such as the ones that browse this forum are incapable of understanding them.
-
To be honest, if LBT was rarer (say like Felidae and was practically impossible to buy in your language) I'd say you have a purpose. The fact a LBT movie costs $8.00 (and you can buy it for less used) I'd say you have other priorities you need to look at if you can't pay $8 for a film to own indefintely. That's my two cents.
-
I just looked on there and LBT 1 is $10 and all other LBT movies are $8 each. The LBT TV episodes DVDs are about $18 each. If you bought all of them (including $7 per video for shipping), the grand total would be $297. Who has almost $300 to spend like that? Even I wouldn't want to do that (though I did it anyways). And that is the absolute CHEAPEST way you can get them. :p
-
Well, who would buy all the movies and episodes in one go? Buying them one at a time or a couple a time would be fine. No need in spending over $200 to own them all at once.
-

True true, but $300 is $300 no matter how long you take to spend it. Even if you took an entire year to get them all, that's $25 a month.
-
Personally, I'm wary of YouTube these days myself. I'm just going to comply with their claims or whatever, and if I make an mv that they're gonna take down, I just won't upload it to YouTube... There's one or two that I'm planning to make that I won't be able to upload there. Oh well, in my case. That one's a tribute of sorts. While I am wary of YouTube, I've decided to stick around. Best wishes to you and your site, Pokeplayer. ;)
-
I've eaten the cost over time as I earn money. I don't stop buying Disney films because I've probably given the Mouse hundreds and hundreds of dollars of business. Same should apply for any video series one likes to view.
-

There is a difference here. A lot of members aren't even on their own yet and don't have the money to spend on the videos. Even if their parents would buy them for them, there are many here who would never ask such a thing of their parents. Your case and mine are quite different Petrie. You're on your own and I make more than enough money to invest it in some quality videos.

Don't even get me started on Wal Mart, as many horror stories as I've heard :anger. Not only are they capitalists who wipe out small businesses and practice mass production, but they bring in almost all their goods from China (Lord knows if sweatshops are being used <_<) 'cuz they'd rather be cheapskates than use American goods (which would provide more jobs for Americans in these times). On top of that, they think they're the government or some other high power! Where do I get that impression? Just the other day, one of my favorite groups, Green Day, spoke out against Wal Mart's censorship policy. Basically, if a recording artist does not provide a censored version of their album, Wal Mart will not sell it. Funny enough, this album focuses on the loss of American society's innocence. Is capitalism somewhere in there? Should be. BTW, the album is still selling like hotcakes despites Wal Mart's noninvolvement. Guess products can still thrive without Wal Mart . Anyhoo, it's just wrong that Corporate Embezzlement Offenders even have so much power and money. Sheesh, when they start thinking they're President or something, then it's really going too far :anger! I totally understand and agree with your argument, Landbeforetimelover.
-
I like going to Walmart, to be honest, because it's cheap to get stuff there. Everyone in my family likes to go there.
-
I go there most of the time for shopping purposes, but I do get electronics and DvDs there once in a while.
-
I work there, and believe me, that's worse then you think.
I think I'll set up a topic so we can talk about it.
-
I don't understand this...
Sure there are the laws of copyright, but what's the big deal about fan-made materials?
In all fairness one cannot exactly claim LBT music-videos to be fan-made materials. It is a new assembling of movie scenes the fan did not create with music which the fan did not create. It is like cutting out the face of da Vinci's Mona Lisa, gluing it onto Rembrandt's Man in a golden Helmet, than taping the whole thing into Picasso's Guernica and then claiming it as all your own work.
-
That¥s right. It are still scenes out of the original movies. So it¥s right. But honestly... if everyone would agree to the copyrights, then there wouldn¥t be very much movies in youtube.
-
I don't think when youtube was founded, the creators intended on hosting full length movies so people could watch them for free. It sort of morphed into that.
-
I got two accounts removed on Youtube, but I'm staying because there's more things to do than on Google Vid.
-
Okay, YouTube is doing things that make me want to stay, but also want to leave.
On the STAY part, they are putting in Anime videos. Nice! Although I could just hunt down a torrent and watch it then. (Of course, I'll have to be ready to clean my machine if I do that, since a virus will most likely come.)
As for the LEAVE, I was actually watching Playthrough videos. Now, this basically means watching someone play and talk during it. (Possibly laughing at them with how they often react to difficult games. (Especially the un-fun ones.)) Sometimes they play great music for whatever reason, and you guessed it, the guy had music that isn't allowed. As a result, I can only watch the silent video and hardly find it enjoyable without the guy swearing at how bad the game is. :(
I mean, no audio made it lose it's appeal.
I'm sorry, I've had enough. :cry2
-
No audio in Playthrough games, eh? I don't see that as a reason to leave. No offense or anything.
-

Or sticking entire movie/videogame soundtracks on there.
Seriously, someone put up the ENTIRE soundtrack of the Matrix Trilogy (Yes, the soundtracks to all 3 movies)...it got deleted. So now I am left with the complete Matrix Revolutions OST and pieces of the other OSTs.
-
Okay, I gave it a bit more thought, and I might actually stay, but my videos won't. All of my videos will be moved when the website is created.
I could actually start creating the site right now if I wanted to, but with a new change in my scheduling coming up, I'll have to plan everything carefully.
So, maybe I will stay a member. YouTube still has a lot to offer. After all, I probably wouldn't have found some of the best videos that I enjoy without it.
So yeah, I might still be a member, but my videos won't be there anymore. So I might not completely leave in the end. :D
Or will I? ;)
-
I think you should just keep your videos on there for popularity, it's not like that people will find you any sooner if you're going to host em somewhere else.
-
Instead of uploading the ACTUAL videos and TV episodes, just title a small video "the land before time - things change" and have the video just be of a blank screen with text of the URL to the place to watch the actual video. That way you'll just be using Youtube's popularity while the actual videos will be hosted somewhere else. I'm thinking of doing that with the LBT TV episodes.
-
Shhh...I actually put up an OST but put it under a picture slideshow. :p The darn thing is rare as ever and a rerelease is very unlikely. Its been quite a few months now....still there. I guess they don't go after everything.

The thing I don't understand is why Universal would have these guys deleting LBT FANMADE projects anyway. It's not like the films are being illegally distributed if only random film clips are used in a music vid. But, instead of considering the popularity such a series can gain by positive things about it being on Youtube, those rich capitalists are only worried about profits <_<.
-
And here's yet another reason to leave YouTube:
READ THIS IT REALLY WORKS!!
1st - put your hand on your chest
2nd- think of someone you like
3rd - tomorrow the person will ask you out or say "I LOVE YOU"
4th - th catch is to write this for 5 videos"
I really HATE these SPAM messages that I see far too often. I feel sorry for those that fall for this crap. -_-
-
Spam messages are everywhere. YT isn't the only place to have them. I've seen them before and I just ignore them.
-
Spam messages are everywhere. YT isn't the only place to have them. I've seen them before and I just ignore them.
True that they are everywhere, but they pop-up so often on YouTube that it's just insane. There are places that are better controlled with this issue. However, the mods of YouTube just let it happen. There's no control over it, and I don't like that one bit.
So on top of it happening so much, there's also the matter of there being no control over it. Which isn't all that hard to do really. -_-
-
Remember about a year in a half ago when I proclaimed that I hated Youtube? Well there was a reason for it. It's just not a good place. I never thought it was very good, but it just gets worse all the time.
I hate most free hosting places whether they provide file hosting, video hosting, or document hosting services. That's the #1 reason I put up my own server. Screw Youtube and all other big-shot places on the web that think they're so great that they can push their users around any way they please. <_<

It is sad but technically these fanmade projects have been illegal since day one.
Let's say you made a movie. I saw your movie and thought some scenes would be cool for a music video. I then go posting my music video featuring scenes from your movie without your permission and I wouldn't expect you to be too happy. You may appreciate the gain in popularity but the fact still remains that I just randomly stole your work, even though my music video was free.
Whether I gave you credit or not, if I didn't ask for your consent to do this project, I wouldn't expect you to be entirely happy with what I did. Say for example you didn't like the song I put to it. You may not be happy with how your work is presented in my video. Again, whether this was good for your "profits"/popularity, if the work is not being presented how you wanted it to, you may or may not be happy with me just randomly taking your work and presenting it my way.

Then explain to me how ScrewAttack is allowed to sell the product in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01HObbnkDt0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01HObbnkDt0)
Because it's seriously breaking copyright rules.

ScrewAttack is a HUGE company; they probably have the rights from the video game producers to do this legally.
-
They probably can afford the rights too.

Ah yes, money talks! Just like Google did with YouTube's original creator. Know anyone who would turn down a $1.3 billion pay for their site? I'd definitely take that.
-
Make it $13 billion then I'll take it.
-
Heck, I'd take $25,000 (cost of all the money I owe companies for getting me through school) and be happy to be debt free. Anything more is like a miracle anyway. :p
-
Okay, I'm done thinking it over.
I shall do my best to put up some final videos and then me uploading on YouTube is officially over.
I shall keep my videos on there for as long as YouTube sees fit, and I'll keep my membership for as long as they see it as well. Not to mention still watch the videos there.
However, a special final video will be made. It will be made AFTER I'm done creating the LBT site I have in mind. Like my Blogger Video, it shall be made to advertise the site.
I've had a great career at YouTube, but all good things must come to an end.
So let the videos I've made be forever immortalized. :D
I'm going out on top. Wish me the best. :)
-
Good luck on your web site and your endeavors.
-
I wish you all the best. I'm sorry that you tube ended up like this... oh well. They can go too far sometimes. I think you had a very good run on that site.
-
Wow, I was recently on YouTube checking my Videos and I think Universal might FINALLY be letting up.
The following four were marked for "Third Party Content" but were allowed to stay on and be viewed by everyone:
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/p...LuckyBreak1.jpg (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/pokeplayer984/LuckyBreak1.jpg)
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/p...LuckyBreak2.jpg (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/pokeplayer984/LuckyBreak2.jpg)
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/p...LuckyBreak3.jpg (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/pokeplayer984/LuckyBreak3.jpg)
http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/p...LuckyBreak4.jpg (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/pokeplayer984/LuckyBreak4.jpg)
Could Universal have finally folded, or do they really not care anymore?
Either way, I'm going to test a little something. Let's see if a certain video that has always been rejected can be posted. :)
-
Just be careful; they seem to press charges against people at random, and I wouldn't want you to be the one who takes the fall for it.
-
Good uck on that. I hope it works out in your favor.
-
Pour gas on a fire if you want...I'll make sure I'm far away.
-
Pour gas on a fire if you want...I'll make sure I'm far away.
Ahhahahaha! :lol That made me laugh so hard! It's probably because the fever is getting to me though... :confused
-
Nope! Adventuring couldn't be posted. I should have known. -_-
See, this is another gripe I have with YouTube. Their copyright rules aren't completely clear on what can be posted. Why is it that nothing from LBT 10 can be posted, but everything else is okay? Why would they block that and nothing else?
It's been boggling my mind for the longest time. Why?
-
Maybe because one famous voice actor is playing in there or something?
edit: typo
-
Maybe because one famous voice actor is playing in there or something?
edit: typo
If that's the case, Mumbling, then there's only one person on the whole list that would really warrant it:
Kiefer Sutherland - Bron
If you don't know him, he plays the main character in the TV Series on FOX, 24.
If no one knows it, FOX has one of the biggest gripes about others using their stuff then anyone else. They even stop big name companies from using their stuff for non-profit reasons. Hulu has tie ins with FOX, which is why they are allowed to do what they do. (Create a website that shows full episodes of their biggest hits for free and advertise it on TV. (Which I must say is done in one of the worst ways to advertise, but still freaking works.))
The fact is that if even one person that they own appears in a movie or TV show, they claim rights to it, even if they don't own the movie or TV show. That's how greedy and big they are.
And does anyone care? No. They love the shows. (Me included in this.) And they're going to do nothing about it just to keep the shows going.
So if I wanted to get it up I would also have to go through FOX, and that is a much harder task then just going through Universal.
So this is the reason I'll never get it up on YouTube.
Case FINALLY solved!
-
So does this mean you are no longer uploading videos in general?
-
So does this mean you are no longer uploading videos in general?
For now.
However, when the site is completed, I shall make a special video to advertise it and upload that onto YouTube.
It worked for my Blogger Video, so I have no doubt in mind of what it'll do for the main site I'm creating.
Well, see ya later!
-
Good luck. I hope it all works out and is easy and nothing unforeseen happens.
-
I hope it works out well, and that your site will not be bothered by Universal or the RIAA.
-
This is your resident Manny popping in to add a couple of cents to the discussion here. I might be pouring gasoline on the pokeplayer984 fire (don't anybody accuse of plagiarism, as that's a common expression :p), as in providing more reasons to leave, but whatever.
So, I'm cruising around on the interwebs, minding my own business, when I get an email from YouTube. A member by the name of pokeplayer915 had subscribed to my channel. I recognized the poleplayer name from here, and I knew the 3-digit number started with a 9, but the rest of the numbers seemed... off. I went to the profile of my new subscriber (http://www.youtube.com/user/pokeplayer915) to see what was up.
It was here that I saw all kinds of warning lights flash up, telling me that this was not the pokeplayer I knew.
The title in the account says, "MAHMOOD ULL NEVER WIN." However, it looks like the account somehow got hacked by some people (I've seen this happen to one other YouTube member). I knew Mahmood got banned here (though I never knew why), and I knew that Mahmood impersonated some people from here with similar YouTube names, but something seems way off with this profile. If I had to guess, I'd say that this profile used to belong to Mahmood, but someone hijacked it. If you look at Recent Activity, you'll see that the member has been busy making friends in the past couple of hours. The member also favorited one of my videos. Mahmood also tried to do a few things to connect with me, such as sending friend invites, subscribing, etc.
I made a random guess and found here (http://www.youtube.com/user/pokeplayer984) what I assume to be pokeplayer984's real YouTube account.
So that's what I can contribute to this little discussion. Hope this information is helpful. Perhaps someone here can also fill in some of the holes in my findings.
-
Yes the second link you found is John's. ;) I don't know about that first one personally.
-
Well the 915 account probably isn't that guy that got banned. He couldn't do anything with a computer. I doubt he'd know how to get the pokemon episodes that are in his/her account and upload them to youtube.
Let's just say he isn't much. If he could really go around hacking youtube accounts and such, he would have gotten back in here. Invisionfree's security is terrible. My server is a million times more secure and youtube is like a trillion times better when it comes to security than this board is. Heck, you don't even have a secure connection when signing up or logging in. The least Invisionfree could do is make it an https.
-
My speculation was that the 915 account originally belonged to Mahmood, but someone else hacked it (the hackers left their names, which was also the case with the last account I saw that got hacked).
It does seem like YouTube is also filled with people that steal videos, people that impersonate, people that hack, blah blah blah.
-
Well then, me creating that website of mine will be more of a benefit to me than anything else.
I just can't believe these people go and copy the one name that I came up with. The name of pokeplayer holds a history behind it that only the members here understand. If you ask me, anyone who steals from me deserves all of the bad things coming to them, even getting banned/hacked.
I'm sorry if any of you feel differently about what I've said, but the name is TOO important to me. It's my own precious little treasure. I hope you understand that.
-
I think hacking someone over a name is childish and a bit too extreme. But that's just me. No offense intended.
-
I'd like to confess by saying I've hacked into someone's account on deviantart at school, but I knew the guy. He forgot to log off from another computer so I went to deviantart and went into his account and displayed a message to him in caps lock. It still there I think. Reason I did that was to prevent him from forgetting to log off. My school has some crazy people. Not to long ago someone got hacked into there school account and was expelled from school. As for youtube, I have no problems with them, but certain users on youtube are a different story. Several friends I know of have problems with these users and it has something to do with the videos my friends upload.
-
The thing that really irritates me the most is the fact those "certain" users have not been banned yet.

And there they go removing the first part of LBT 9. (Yeah, ONLY that.)
*sighs* That's one of the better later sequels. Well, let's just hope I can get it back up. -_-
See ya guys later!
-
Beware of the hulutube video its fake!If this was the drive.
-
I've seen some videos where they do not remove a the video or a part of a series of videos like movie parts, but just turn the sound off of 1 of them. I guess since it contains a song & the corporation that owns the song complained or something.

I can hack though using password decoders and other scripts
-
That makes me feel uncomfortable.

You know, ever sense YouTube removed a certain video, I have been searching hard for it. You see, the big thing is that it's a great video with a wonderful song. When something that so many would actually like is removed, it's just saddening. We don't care about the reasons why it was removed, we just hate it, because we loved it.
Well, after a bit of searching, I have found it yet again.

There are some videos out there that are just so great, even the law shouldn't be a reason for it to be removed. IMO, this is one of them. :)

You know, I wonder just how YouTube does it? You know, block videos and mute them so easily? Because they can also catch .flv and .sfw files that have the material.
Whoever they have behind the programming. They're good. -_-

Okay, this is one major gripe I have with YouTube. You know how I have the movies of LBT on my account, right? I've gone through a lot of hard work to get them on!
However, here's the major thing on The Big Freeze, they will let me slide with Part 8 of the movie but not allow Part 1? Seriously!?
See? It's copyright deal is so messed up like this. :(
Now, I've been busy through the day trying to get it back on, but they won't allow it, therefore, I have no choice but to remove it all.
Sorry, but I'm not putting it up unless they'll let me have ALL the parts.
So, say goodbye to Land Before Time 8 on my channel, because it's gone. -_-
-
I could've saw that coming. Do we want to take bets on which movie falls next? (not sure what else you got up there)

Okay, I'll give you a nice list:
The Original Land Before Time
Land Before Time 2: The Great Valley Adventure
Land Before Time 3: The Time of the Great Giving
Land Before Time 4: Journey Through the Mists
Land Before Time 5: The Mysterious Island
Land Before Time 7: The Stone of Cold Fire
Land Before Time 9: Journey to Big Water
Land Before Time 12: The Great Day of the Flyers
Land Before Time 13: The Wisdom of Friends
So, which ones do you think will fail next? -_-

Seeing as I got my point across, do you understand why you're basically asking for youtube to take the videos down? Time is about all you got on your side.

Oh, I've understood that for the longest time, Petrie, but here's the main thing...
People want them on there! Bottom line! They don't give a crap about copyright laws and all that, they just want them on there.
No questions asked, no exceptions.
EDIT: So, I'm just going to keep it up there for as long as I can, no questions asked.
Only time will tell how long it'll stay on. :)

People want them on there! Bottom line!
People also want money to grow on trees! They also want free jewelry and a free car! But some things just can't be done without breaking the law. Live with it. :neutral

People also like to use people to get what they want. Sounds like you're being played by the masses..tricked into doing something illegal to be popular. Sounds like something a million kids in school fall for each year. Careful, mate. That's a tricky mindset to live in.
I want free movies too, but the existance of this thing called an 'economy' says it shouldn't happen. :p If they want them, tell them to go buy the dang movies; they're everywhere online.
