Title: Riddles
Post by: Noname on May 31, 2009, 04:49:50 AM
It works like this; he who solves a riddle can ask a riddle, and the one who posts the riddle says who is correct.

I'll start:

What runs but does not walk, and has a mouth but does not talk?

Any body of flowing water that runs into the sea at its mouth?

Right, but what is it named? (you essentially got it)

I'll just say it; the answer is "river", which fits your definition of a body of water which flows (runs) and has a mouth, which is a geographic term in this context.

Your turn, Malte.

... since no response is forthcoming, I'll just add a new one myself.

What is broken when you speak its name?

... since you did not post a new one, I will do so now. (This thread is in trouble, I think.)

A family has a mother, father, four sons, and each son has one sister. How many people are in the family?

Ten?

No. Good guess, though.

Considering that father must be somebody's son, then I would guess that this family has eleven members.

Yes, the father has a sister too, so it must be 11.

No, the father and the sons are tracked differently. The answer is less than 10.

:slap

Now I get it (I think). Is seven a right answer?

Yes! Each of the daughters has one brother, but that ONE brother has four sisters. The father, mother, 4 daughters, and 1 son make seven! Your turn!

To be fair, it took me quite some time to get this one when I first heard it.
