I've always wanted to try this out... how would members of different races be able to found a city, when there is magic involved, too? We would have to work on the details, of course, and there would have to be some sort of order worked out...
-
A rule of thumb noname is not have so many rps going on at once that you neglect some of them.. it is better to finish some then start a new rp.. that start one and become so caught up in running that rp, that you forget the others you've already started.
-
It may seem exciting to run an rp, but best to not run to many at once. Up to you. It could be an interesting idea. & if you'd want folks to suggest ideas and such that would take time, plenty of time to get the fantasy rp finished and maybe a sequel started, and or finished.
-
This is just a preliminary idea page; I have no plans to actually START this one... not for a long time.
-
When then thats different.. Where should we set the city, for one?
-
I think you mean "Well, then, that's different." I'm not sure as to what the setting is. Keep in mind that it won't be running for months, in all likelihood, or at least, weeks.
I already knew that rule of thumb; which is why I am talking about it here rather than posting it on the actual roleplaying section, but thanks for the advice anyway.
-
well, we don't want you to burnout..
-
So far, no danger of that. Thanks.
-
So Should we leave this up for wheb we get closer to the end of the fantasy rp..
-
Not really; I intend for this to be a "spin-off" more than anything... maybe when a story arc IN the fantasy RP is complete...
-
Alright... What should we call the city?
-
I don't know yet; I was planning for that to be part of the RP itself.
-
A name can be picked later.
-
The idea is that the founders of the city would pick it... which will happen in the RP... which will begin at a later date.
-
Plenty of time for that.
-
Indeed. Still, a few details may be worked out ahead of time.
-
Yes, power level of the pc's, tech level, ect.
-
i was thinking similar to what we have now in fantasy rp..
-
That makes sense; although I was thinking that, if they are going to build a city, they would have to have civilian jobs as well, such as carpenter, blacksmith, teacher, mason, etc.
-
So more like a day in the life instead of a team of adventurers?
Also would you prefer folks to do a lot of posting like the other fantasy rp thread, or have it be slower more limited number of posts ?
-
This on is intended to be a lot slower than the fantasy RP; since it is a "day in the life" as you said, it need not be fast-paced like the current RP... in other words, thee will be more detail per post, but fewer posts overall, over the same time period.
-
Sounds like it could be fun, including for those who can't post like 3 pages a day in 1 rp or keep up with having to read 6-12 pages a day.
-
I am sorry if the other RP is giving you trouble, Kor. Yes, this will be a much slower RP... and far more detailed, since it is trying to describe the founding and construction of a whole city.
-
About the only way I could be in the other rp is if my chars either blank out mentally so do not remember what happened over certain spans of time, since I don't see why I should read 10+ pages often to get caught up with stuff several times a day. Or my chars actually vanish and reappear at times. I prefer the second personally since it would explain why Kravik and Sivar were not doing anything over those 10 pages, since they were not there. If needed, one can maybe pray to the good dragon gods and they may reappear, but maybe not. Stupid I know but those are the only ideas I can think of.
I think rp threads that are for very frequent posters only should be marked as such.
I do hope this one will be of a more normal posting speed.

1 thing you'll have to consider, which much fantasy stuff ignores is how the presence of magic will change things. Streetlights enchanted with light? Roads and maybe sidewalks that can absorb the sunlight and give off a glow at night? Roads & side walks enchanted so they won't go below a certain temperature, like 40 degrees F, in areas where it snows so the snow will gradually melt due to that. Other things? Will these be done in all areas, or only in places where the rich live? Instead of glass windows, leave the walls brick, stone wood, ect, and just have an area enchanted to be transparent. Same with armor, the front of the armor can be transparent, same with shields. Metals enchanted to be the same weight as a feather. Leaves used to make a type of scale mail, vines a type of chainmail, and as resistant to damage as the metal counterparts, but likely much more expensive, but lighter. And other things. Can races or individuals improve themselves with magic and enchantments?
-
Those considerations for a magic city will be put into effect in the RP itself; it is up to the players to decide what characteristics the city will have because they are the ones who will be founding it and gradually building it up from a village into a city... over time.
-
I guess the players will all be enchanters and or wizards then.
-
Some will be; not all of mine will be. If you want some magic powers for your characters, you are free to do so.
-
I thought they were required to all have that.
-
No, not at all. Why do you keep thinking these "all or nothing" ideas? The city itself will have magic in it, but only a fraction of the inhabitants will actually be mages...
-
since magic is only for the rich I guess.
& there is no need to throw insults around.
-
I am sorry; I did not mean for it to be an insult. And magic is not only for the rich; you have come to that conclusion yourself, but it is not necessarily so. That is, anyone, rich or poor, can use magic in this upcoming RP.
-
I can think of some spells that would make building a city easy. Shape stone, shape earth, earth to stone, for starters.
-
This isn't D&D-based; you are free to use idea and material from that source, if you desire.
-
That makes things much more flexible indeed.
-
That is true, Kor. You can play as any kind of fantasy character that you want... although it is probably best to keep it within the realms of magic... introducing a robot might be out of place... not that anyone has said that they would play a robot...
-
True, a robot would not fit. If one really wanted to do a robot in a fantasy setting there are close equivalents to robots, maybe something like intelligent golems made of this or that. Maybe even sentient Golems perhaps. I think a d &d world had that in the warforged, though I didn't have to books so only know bits of what I read online about them.
-
An approximation of a robot, like a golem or a "construct" fits; they had those myths back as far as ancient Greece...
-
Just thought I'd mention it in case someone really had their heart set on being a robot, for some unusual reason.
