Title: Anitopia-An Animation Forum
Post by: Amaranthine on June 15, 2009, 06:42:22 PM
I called this place Anitopia, where members can talk about ANY forms of animation. ANY at all. If you even have made animation yourself, you can talk about it. :) If anyone has any questions about the set up or anything, please ask.

Also, I had a question for anyone that has owned a forum or is still owning a forum. Where can you go to find smilies other then the smilies proboards give? Or how can you make your own smilies? Just curious.

It's officially my homepage too.

http://animationqueen.proboards.com/index.cgi (http://animationqueen.proboards.com/index.cgi)?

If you plan to join, you will have a pending account that I will have to approve before you can be part of the community here. Granted my forum has been a ghost forum for a few months, but just yesterday and a few days ago, it has had more activity. :) So have fun. :DD

Ouch.  Even if I wanted to join I couldn't.  The colors/contrasts are to offensive to the eyes.  Try to go with something warmer and a background that doesn't repeat.

I'm not going to change them just because you told me to LBTlover. Besides, That's really all I can do right now. Since I don't want to steal anyone else's art.

You a member of freewebs?  If so check out their background bank.  There are tons of backgrounds that don't repeat.  Just download and apply one of those.  Then I'm sure the sharp colors won't be as offensive.  Oh, and when I say offensive I don't mean they look bad.  I mean they hurt the eyes.

I'm afraid it's best to change it for ANYONE who goes there.  What you have currently really hurts the eyes.

Why not try something with a darker color scheme?  That could work.

Just trust me and apply this background.

(http://www.freewebs.com/Backgrounds/Sky/ss119.jpg)

It repeats to look like a 100% perfect image.

Besides...I didn't even ASK for help on the color. I really didn't. Why are you, any of you pointing it out?

Take a look at what the GOF has for a color scheme for a bit.  Isn't it easy on the eyes?  Everyone has a different range of what they can handle when it comes to bright colors and it is proven that going dark is the best move for ANY kind of place you make for the web.

It's just easier for EVERYONE!

Sorry but when I see something that can be improved I can't help but offer suggestions.  A non-repeating background would help the look of the website immensely.....at least in my opinion.

They're just trying to help, Rat_Lady.

The board's current look doesn't really bother my eyes, to be honest. I'll consider joining.

This is the same thing that happened when I tried to show this site here. This is NOT helping at all.

You mean you didn't create that skin from scratch?  I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing that.  Professional web developers always tend to go towards neutral colors that don't clash and are easy on the eyes.

I did create it FROM scratch. I MADE OTHER SKINS. NOT JUST THIS ONE.

Sorry...I just didn't make myself clear earlier...and you guys really are pissing me off right now.

Here.  This will help you with color selection.  They're no doubt asking for HTML colors, which I'm sure you don't know.  Here's a chart of some common colors and their codes:

(http://www.eligr.com/images/colors.gif)

The hover color is way too dark.  You can't even read the text.  Try a lighter blue from this chart.

#FFFFFF = Pure White
#000000 = Pure Black

You're going to want to create a color scheme that utilizes complimentary colors.  It'll look great.  Next, you can use that cloud background I provided for you but I would strongly recommend choosing a background that's warm in color and repeats perfectly.

All Landbeforetimelover and Pokeplayer have been doing is trying to help you with the messageboard. But I understand if you're feeling frustrated, though. I sometimes feel frustrated too with people when they are just trying to help me.

I'm sorry guys. I just can't please everyone. Thank you for trying to help me. But I DON'T need your help. Alright? I'm sorry for yelling and getting pissed off at you guys. A button of mine was repushed and I counldn't take it anymore.

I know those codes. I actually did look them up. Again. I don't NEED your help.
Thank you and good day.

And DH, your pending account has been approved.  ;)

For the record, I don't have any problems with the colors.  (maybe it was changed since the first few messages but they're good as they are now).

And you never will be able to.  You see what I go through every time I do something here.  You're going to have to break some eggs and go with your instinct sometimes.  You won't know the effects for a while.  You saw how people reacted to the green but everyone's cool with it after time.

I actually changed to a different skin. The other one was a DreamWorks skin and it had a bright sky and clouds. What I was getting annoyed with was that I just didn't see it through LBTlover's and pokeplayer's points of view. To me it wasn't bright, but to them it was.

Lol, I actually thought the green added a nice touch to the forum Petrie. I really did. :yes It's a nice contrast of bright on dark. :)

Yeah they were changed and it's a LOT better now.  BTW, I like the playlist.

I never really had a problem with the green thing myself. :p Now the background....I don' t think I can ever grow to like it.  Once CSS3 is fully supported in 2010, I'll show you how to make it so it doesn't repeat like it does.  Then I'll like it. :p

EDIT:
Actually you can add the element right now.  It won't do anything until 2010, but you can add it now so you won't have to worry about it later.
Code:  on
body {
background: url(bgimage.jpg) no-repeat;
background-size: 100%;
}

It adjusts the size of the background to match the user's screen resolution.  Pretty neat huh?  It doesn't even require Javascript to do it either. :D

You could fake it right now using CSS2, but you need access to HTML and I think Invisionfree only let's you edit the style sheet.  If you can actually edit HTML, use the following code:

Code:  on
html, body {
height: 100%;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

Code:  on
<body>
<img src="bgimage.jpg" alt="background image" id="bg" />
</body>

Code:  on
img#bg {
position:fixed;
top:0;
left:0;
width:100%;
height:100%;
}

And you must put everything in a content element:
Code:  on
<div id="content">All your content here - including headers, paragraphs, etc.</div>

Code:  on
#content {
position:relative;
z-index:1;
}

Then you have to have exceptions of IE of course:

Code:  on
<!--[if IE 6]>
<style type="text/css">
html { overflow-y: hidden; }
body { overflow-y: auto; }
#bg { position:absolute; z-index:-1; }
#content { position:static; }

It's a matter of opinion, I guess.  The color scheme does not hurt my eyes at all.  There's nothing here to get worked up about.  They're just tryin' to help, and even if ya don't need help, there's no need to get pissed off.  As a Christian, I believe in lending a helping hand, but I also acknowledge that it is ultimately up to the receiver as to whether or not they accept the help.  Believe me, sometimes constructive criticism and giving advice may come across as folks attempting to undermine your abilities, but that's not really what they're doin' ;).

Tried the first part of code and it didn't work as I expected.  I had to put the regular html code back in because I was hoping to get the image to remain in place, and the text just scrolled.  That could be accomplished with this:

Code:  on
<body background="http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h141/action9000/lbtbgdarker.jpg" border="0">
<style>
BODY { background-attachment:fixed }
</style>

I don't know if there's any other way to do that, but let's not hijack this thread about Ratlady's board. ;)

I like the playlist of songs near the top of the page, nice touch, and interesting idea for a theme and subject for a forum.
