We're a pretty tough bunch to offend.  We may not like it or agree with it, but that doesn't mean we are offended by it.  Just to let you know, we had another member into the deathcore metal/rap stuff and we didn't want him putting the lyrics in his signature.  As long as you don't do that we won't have any trouble at all with your music tastes.

Hi and welcome go GOF!

When it comes to music, I personally don't care if the music I listen to is mainstream or underground. If I like it, then I like it.

Welcome to the GOF musicfreak9000 :)
As for offending people I reckon it is important for all parties to accept and acknowledge in their posts that there are different views on all kind of things and that one mustn't pretend the own view to be the one and only correct one with anyone else being wrong. Tastes in art and music may vary strongly, but that is no reason not to get along fine so long views do not cross certain borderlines (e.g. racism or sexism won't ever be tolerated in the GOF), and everyone shows respect for the views of others.
That being said, please feel hearty invited to join our discussions or start threads of your own :yes

I looked through their posts and they didn't seem to make anything TOO bad.  I'm guessing whatever topic they made was so bad that the admins just deleted it.

He was banned because he's actually mcr mad, a member who was banned..last year I think, due to his bad language usage.

Yes, coming back once you've been shown the door is a big no-no.

In fact, I'd report him to his ISP, not that they'll likely do anything about it.  I think in some places it is actually a crime to return to a site that you've been banned from though.

There was another site I was on where someone came on and in their introduction thread, they said something like
Quote
Hi, I was banned from this site a while ago but I wanted to come back... so here I am.

To which the mods replied

And here is your new ban, idiot.

That said, I knew there was something familiar about this guy.   <_<

Can't you ban by IP Petrie?  This guy is a real nuisance......

Post by: action9000 on June 23, 2009, 11:38:30 PM
He was banned by IP.  His new account was juuust a slightly different IP.

It must be stressed that he was not merely banned for bad language but in addition to that for outright attacks on other members and an absolute unwillingness to change that kind of attitude (he had been suspended and informed of the consequences of further rules trespassing several times). While none of the posts he made with his new account would have warranted a ban by itself, they were sufficient evidence that his general attitude had not changed and that there would have been further insults of other members before long (if somebody liked any of the many things he hates for example).

At least he was found out before to long.  It does seem that sadly he has not changed and likely never will.

Well at least he doesn't know how to circumvent the ban.  If his new IP was only slightly different, he likely just moved or changed ISP's.  When you're bypassing bans, your IP should be TOTALLY different.

It was not the similarity of the numbers though but the extreme similarity of attitudes for which he was discovered. If a banned member sneaks back onto the board and then behaves in a way that gives no reason for concern, I must admit that this would not give me any sleepless nights as it would not do any harm to the GOF. Here however the continuation of the behavior that got him banned in the first place (and for which he had been warned plenty enough times) was foreseeable.

from where did you exactly know that it is mcr_mad? I mean, if it was him, then it¥s good that he is banned again. But couldn¥t it be that another member acts the similar way and has a similar IP adress?
Title: hi
Post by: Mumbling on June 26, 2009, 08:55:42 AM
Well Patrick, even if it was someone else it wouldn't have been much of a loss. He didn't really show that he cared for LBT and he was having a clear opinion on everything like 'I hate emos' which wasn't really respectful.

It is possible to track the location of IP Addresses and the one of musicfreak9000 led to exactly the same location as mcr_mad's. Unless we assume someone else of the same characteristics happens to live at exactly the same spot as mcr_mad by some funny coincidence we must assume that it is really him.

The world is freaky, isn't it?  But seriously, I've used those programs countless times.  Sometimes it's a good thing to know where the person that's been to your server is from for geographical profiling purposes.  BTW, I don't track IP's to actual street addresses on my server.  Just cities, states, and countries.  I've almost got a full map (well, besides Africa and Antarctica :p ).

There is another thing I want to stress. The GOF staff does not liberally "spy" into anyone's whereabouts. As a matter of fact this is the only case I can think of in which we (or rather I, the responsibility for this is all mine) did this. The reason is that the posts of musicfreak9000 bore such a similarity to those of mcr_mad that I did have the suspicion of it being the same guy almost from the first post on. On behalf of the community (his attitude of last year in mind) I decided to take that step on the basis of the strong suspicion.
Let me assure you that this is nothing that anyone in the staff would do without a very good reason as it is none of our business where anyone lives if that anyone does not decide to share that information.

And I'd like to point out that I don't trace individual IP's.  I just bunch them all together and see how many people view the server from each country.  I haven't programmed it to collect specific information on any individual, but rather a general profile on where the most visitors are from.  I could program it to target individual street addresses and discover the exact location where each individual is located, but that would take a lot of work and I'm not interested in that information.  I can however discover who your Internet Service Provider is and report your IP to them.  That's what I do when an individual uploads restricted material (such as porn or illegal programs) and refuses to stop.

I would also like to point out that 99% of all servers do exactly what I do.  It's not like my server is special or anything.  If you go to eBay, they know what country, city, and state you live in.  Want proof?  Go to a website that has ad's and look at an ad for singles.  They say "hot local singles in Maple Grove, Minnesota!" and the area changes depending on who connects.  When you're on the net, a certain amount of information is always available to the web master of whatever website you're at.  It's just that simple.
