Title: Ever fall victim to a screamer video?
Post by: tempestwheel on August 26, 2009, 03:24:04 PM
We've all probably seen one on the internet at least once.

A video that starts out calm, but all of a sudden, a scary image accompanied with a loud, terrifying scream appears. Those scare the crap out of me, but I've learned how to see them coming, so I've gotten good at avoiding them.

Anyone ever fall victim to a video like that?

Yeah, I've hit those. First one ever was a Youtube video called "Editing mistake in Star Wars movie" or something like that, where the volume was really low. Since then I've read the comments and checked the user reading before watching any such video.

Who hasn't? :p  You get used to figuring out which ones they are, or the Rick-Rolls....

If they're bad enough they can damage your speakers. :anger I don't listen to crap speakers or headphones so if either of them blew out it'd cost me hundreds of dollars to replace them.  Hopefully though since they're of such high quality it'll take more than what people can normally throw at them to damage 'em.

You really need to have speakers cranked to blow them out.

I've seen them when I was about 8 years old or so. After that I never really ran into one anymore, luckily, cus I was scared as heck ;)

I listen to stuff pretty loudly if it's in high quality.  A screamer vid at that volume could possibly damage them.  Fortunately most screamer vids are low quality garbage off Youtube, and I never watch Youtube vids with the volume cranked.

I've never "fallen victim" to a sceamer video before. I watch a video of a kid getting pranked by his parents with one though, it was hilarious.

Rick rolls are a different story. I like that song though.

I had fallen victim to a screamer..not really a video, but a "game". It was a mouse kind of game, moving the cursor and trying to stay in the lines. The purpose was to get you to focus so closely on the sides to make sure the cursor didn't cross over them. Then this distorted, ugly face would pop up and start laughing or something, all of a sudden. It startled me so much I just tensed up and kept quiet for several minutes before I pretty much snapped at the person who had me go to that site.

I have not, but my former supervisor did when she was in her office at 1:00 AM.  Her scream woke up half the folks in the nursing home :lol.

Yeah, I've been a sucker for a few screamer videos. I wasn't aware they had their own class now  :DD I've done the "online visual tests", "get the ball through the maze" and all that malarky just to have some nasty image scream in my face. Yeah, it did its job and I almost backflipped off my chair on the odd occasion but I tend to be a little more cautious of what my friends send me now  :p And if anything asks me to crank the volume up, I play it through first with the level down just to make sure.

A fun prank every now and again but nothing to be overdone...

I fell victim only once, the first time I saw it.  It was my junior year of high school (i'm a college freshmen now so this is actually starting to go back a bit) and I was in my APES class (Advance Placement Environmental Sciences).  My APES teacher told us he had a video about this European car he wanted to show us.  So i'm watching what at first seems like a fairly normal  car commercial when all of a sudden... well, you guys no the rest.

Me too, but I doubt they'd do something like that.
