I seriously cannot wait to see this movie. I don't have any memories of reading the book, sadly but I do remember that it played a huge part in my childhood. So I'm not afraid to say that I am very anxious to see this. I mean, if a trailer can get me close to crying, I'll be sobbing like a baby during the movie.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. The movie comes out October 16th.

Seeing as how this will be another hollywood movie about one of my favorite childhood books. I don't think it to be good but I will try to see it.

I don't know much about the director, but I've heard he's done some good movies. And Maurice Sendak himself had a hand in the production of the movie and seems to be happy with the results. If the author himself is happy with a live action adaption of one of his creations, then I'm sure we've nothing to worry about.

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised with all the negative reception this movie is getting on these forums. Everywhere else I've been people have been talking about how anxious they are for this movie. I don't want to start a flame war or anything but have some of you guys even seen the trailers? Everytime I see the trailers, I get a goosebumps and even feel a little teary eyed.

I don't think this is going to turn out as bad as some people are making it out to be. Maurice Sendak himself even said he liked it. So if the creator of the source material even says he thinks it's good, chances are it just might be.

I don't want to argue with anyone and I'm not trying to shoot down others' opinions.

I agree it looks good. I work at a Movie Theater right now so I get free movie tickets so there Is a 98 percent chance I will give this a watch. All though it might not be one of the best I am kinda looking forward to it.

Well I saw the movie yesterday with a couple of my friends (went wearing my Wild Things shirt) and I thought it was great! For anyone who's intrested, I posted a whole review of it in my DA journal.

After having seen the movie, I can sort of understand why some people may not appreciate it. Although many of the negative comments I've read stem more from ignorance than real problems with the film (No story, too dark for a kid's film, etc). I'm just glad we finally got a movie that isn't your generic Hollywood bull.

Anywho, definately check it out. I can't say for sure if you'll be dissapointed or not.

What negative reception are you talking about? In this topic, I didn't see any negative reception towards this movie. If that isn't what you meant, I apologize.

*Ponders who on earth a children's book that was 13 pages long can be turned into at least an hour and half.*

The plot: Kid runs away from home, plays with critters after he announces he's their king, almost gets eaten by critters when it turns out they eat their kings, runs back home. THe end. Yeah, kind of surprising that the monsters are portrayed as fun-loving good guys when the fact of the matter is they have roasted child on the menu. Wonder how this one is going to traumatize kiddies.

Here's a review I found for the movie.

He makes some good points.

Seems to me like the movie is following in the footsteps of the book. It gets its fair share of haters and PO'ed parents at first, but then a couple years later, I'm betting people will look back and go on and on about how good it was. After all, the book recieved very negative reception at first and now it's considered a classic. IMO, the same thing could happen with the movie. At least, I hope so...

DarkHououon: I agree with a lot of things in that review. Although I wouldn't say the Wild Things are "depressives". More like big kids who want nothing more than endless play time. I really liked how they represented a side of Max or the people he knows. On top of that, it really isn't a movie you walk away happily from. When I left the movie, I wasn't sure how to feel. I was happy, angry, sad. I felt a lot of different ways. I think that's what Jonze was aiming for and personally, I think he did a great job. This isn't a movie for everybody and yet at the same time, it is a movie for everybody if that makes sense.
