This is one of my all-time favorite games! But before I go off on a rant about it...
Has anyone else played it? Or is anyone else interested, at least?
If so, give me the verdict! Love it? Hate it? Never heard of it? Show the cetacean with the starry melon some love!

I remember Ecco! That was a classic game of the old days. Definitely a ground breaker in terms of originality coz nothing else was like it back then. I never completed it (well, coz I never owned it :DD ) But it was still a good game. *sighs* memories.... :D

I remember renting the game way back and playing it for a while.

Yeah, it was fantastic! The controls were really intuitive, and the graphics were amazing for a Genesis game. I never beat the first one, either... I got it on an emulator a bit ago, but still couldn't beat it :lol

Didn't they do 1 or 2 sequels?
-
Yes!
There was 'Tides of Time,' which i believe was another genesis game, and this thread's namesake 'Defender of the Future,' which was for Dreamcast and later re-released on PS2.
-
Have you played either of those? I've only played a bit of the first one.
-
Yes! I've played Defender of the Future extensively! It's really gorgeous, great graphics for its generation. It's difficult, too. Very much a 'thinking' game. I haven't beaten it yet, but i'm well on my way!

Ecco the Dolphin always did have that different edge to it. It wasn't about big guns and high octane action. It was a complex and involving puzzler. I think that's what set it aside from the normal run of games at that time which were relatively simplistic in nature. I haven't played any of the more recent renditions of Ecco but I do remember the two titles for the Megadrive (European name for the Genesis). A classic title for sure ;)

Yes! It was definitely something else. And I found the storyline(which was admittedly a bit esoteric :lol ) quite fresh and engaging.
I'm determined to beat the original now! Even though I still can't get past that darn octopus... :rolleyes
Edit: (I just realized that three out of my five posts begin with 'Yes!' Perhaps I've been a bit enthusiastic? :p )
