Title: Short Story Based on RP Setting
Post by: Noname on September 29, 2009, 09:18:00 PM
While I don't have the time yet, I was thinking of making a short story based on the settting that I have used in the fantasy RPs. Not long, just 10-20 pages, single-spaced... about a minor event.

What do you think? If it is made, it will go be done whenever I have the time and will to do it.

I think it would be neat.

Make sure to post it in the Fanfic section though.

Of course. Why would I post it here? I put the announcement here, not the actual story... and even if it was written, it wouldn't go here.  :lol

It isn't quite a fanfic... but it should still fit. I'll also post it on my site.

EDIT: On second thought, it ought to go into the "arts" section... under the written word.

Thanks metadude.  :D

It won't be made for a while... I can only work on it when I have the time... which is kinda hard to come by at the moment. XD

Will you use other users characters from the RPs? I tend to ask their permission before using their characters, and usually let them know exactly which characters I would be using.

I am using my own characters, not those of anyone else. I would never use theirs without asking permission. I'm surprised you thought you had to tell me that, really.

Oh, it's just because I always enjoyed using other people's characters in my Darwin's Soldiers stories, mainly because I only have one of my own, and because the others are an integral part to the DS universe. In fact, I think you are the only forum member whose character hasn't been referenced or appeared in one of my stories, mainly because he appeared so late. Perhaps I should fix that...

Go on then. I've got several. And by "late, you mean April of this year, 2009. That's when the whole thing started. The largest RP the forum has EVER seen...

I'm talking about Corporal Stern, from Darwin's Soldiers. He was introduced into the second RP after all three of my current stories were posted or pre-written, and so hasn't appeared yet. I am toying with a story idea he might fit well in, though. but like you, I also have very little time to devote to stories, and so the story may take some time before it is written.

That's fine. Take your time. You may use the corporal.

As for my story... I have some ideas. First, I need to pick one, or make a working combination of some... then, I need to actually type it up...

The setting will have to be established in the story... that is the hard part... people won't go in knowing it unless they have read my pre-existing work or played in the RPs.

If you want a piece of advice, I do all my writing in cheap spiral-bound journals by hand, and then type it up once the story is finished. I find that I get easily distracted when the computer is on, and as a result my writing decreases in quality. My best writing (and my quickest finished) has been in journals.

I'm just the opposite.  :lol

My best writing is done on computers. I find I can jump to parts of the story within a moment, and fix things very quickly and with no hassle. It also helps me find references in a snap.

You must have a better attention span than me, then. Were it possible to do anything else in a spiral-bound journal, rest assured I'd do it.

For jumping, I generally put an asterisk at the desired point and then write that section in either the margins or the next available blank space, if it's particularly long.

I just use ctrl-F to find a certain word or phrase. That gets me to the part of the writing I need to be at really quickly.
