Title: My Impressions on MediaFire
Post by: pokeplayer984 on March 22, 2010, 05:35:39 PM
With me getting my site to a completion point, I have been doing all I can to hunt down the #1 File Sharing Site.  When it comes to keeping it private, I have found such a thing.

The reason why I've been looking for such a thing is because of what the finished product is planned to be like.  Not only will everyone be getting powerful streaming service from the site, but the downloads are planned to be unlimited, with NO restrictions.

When it comes down to it, MediaFire is the only one that comes close to allowing such a thing.

MediaFire is amazingly powerful for just the Free service alone.  200 MB File Size Limit, Unlimited Uploads, Unlimited Downloads, Unlimited Storage, No Speed Limits, Download Resuming, No Sign Up Required, RSS File Feeds, Robust File Management and Flexible Sharing Options.

I am thoroughly impressed.  Never before have I seen such a File Sharing Site where the Free service alone is great.  I have been able to put up downloadable videos of The Land Before Time TV Series Episodes and, when the folder for it was put up onto YouTube as a free advertisement, I was able to get over 50 downloads within the first week alone.  Considering each Episode is over 100 MB, I have gotten a total of 6461.17 MB or about 6.31 GB of Downloaded Episodes. I've already used up more than half of what DivShare offers for their free service. (10 GB per month of Bandwidth.) Considering how quick that went, I'm glad it's Unlimited. :)

I had even set up those 26 Episode files to upload overnight (About 7 Hours of sleep for me.) and they were done by the next morning.  Wow!  Talk about quick! :)

Now here's the thing, only when you give out the link will others be able to download the file(s) at hand.  So if you put it onto a forum, anyone who goes to that part of the forum is allowed to download the files.

(For instance, Click Here to Download the Episodes of The Land Before Time TV Series (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=02af32f480dd0e21931c7453395df025ab065428935ef8064da018f8c462ba45))

When it comes to pictures, said picture becomes a click-able thumbnail that others can click on to download.

Like this click-able thumbnail of a random picture.

Okay, that one of Baby Ruby was set up, but still.

Now, here's one of a music file for ya.

If We Hold On Together (http://www.mediafire.com/?fhfzjj4jjm2)

Streaming video files is the one thing it can't seem to do.  You only get that if you pay for it.  However, for downloading, it is absolutely perfect.

There is the thing with Ads, but then again, every File Sharing Site has that, so it's no big deal in the end.

In the end, to me, when it comes to sharing downloadable files, MediaFire is truly #1. :)

I agree with you. We've been using it as a back-up for the game if austin's server is not working :)

I did start uploading some stuff to MediaFire but I'm not as impressed by it. First off, I can't use Firefox to upload; I get an error each time. The other thing is that, twice, I've tried to upload a file and MediaFire will suddenly drop its connection and start the upload all over again (the second time the file was at 93%). The first time it happened, it dropped the connection and restarted at least twice, maybe a third time, and unfortunately there's no Cancel button that I could see so I had to sign out to stop the upload.

So yeah. It does seem like an okay site to upload, but I don't think it's all that great, given my negative experience with MediaFire so quickly.

Oh and I should point out that the 2 files I tried to upload that failed weren't that big. They between 10 and 20 MB. Less than 20 MB, more than 10 MB. It wasn't like I was uploading full episodes or anything. These were puny for video files.

I don't get why it's having such a hard time for you.  It does incredibly well for me. (Maybe it likes me more! :nyah )

I can upload multiple files just fine on Firefox.  On top of that, I hardly ever get a restart.

My guess is that it's a problem on your end and not with MediaFire.  It's done perfectly well for me in uploading and those that download from me just love it.  Seriously speaking, I don't know what the problem is for you, but I doubt it's MediaFire.
